Having a "Gamers ability" is a Dream, sadly for the unfortunate ones (us) we can only read about it

I really love how he is developing his skill sets in a balanced way, and unlike other mangas of this genre he actually utilises his abilities that he "acquired" instead of just one time clip appearance.

He is also very strong willed for a shonen male lead, who takes everything upon himself rather than depending on others. Also love the side characters especially the two girls and hope we see a future romance building up.

This is a real good read, though the pacing gets slow at times. I would also recommend trying to find the original fan-made translations rather than the official ones published at LINE Webtoons. The translators at the official site don't seem to give a f*ck. The Gamer uses a lot of gaming jargon in the series which LINE W just glosses over and doesn't translate/mention. And the main character is so obsessed with gaming he gain super powers from it, how does it make sense to neuter one of the characters main traits that way? Also, I've notice comments about how they should get someone fluent in English to correct the grammar. WTF!? I'm no grammar Nazi, but that's clearly a sign of half-assed editing. I'm normally all for going the legit route, but sometimes it hard to when the publishers are clearly not as passionate about putting out a good product as the hobbyists/fans.

"The Gamer" is ultimately a series deconstructing the current trend of the "real-life video game" genre, as seen with Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, BToom, and classics such as the .hack series. While video games are certainly fun, they are also designed to be deliberately a bit ridiculous and simplistic, as they are principally a means of escapism from our absurd and complicated reality. Unlike real life, you can choose not to play video games, but if you do choose to play, you accept a life of tedious stress, danger, and simple rewards.

The protagonist Han Jee-Han is a video game addict, and one day his everyday life arbitrarily becomes an RPG, with frequent status updates, HP, MP, and experience points; and so naturally he immediately hates it. As with many other supernatural series, each character has some "personalized supernatural power," and this is his power: he gains new supernatural abilities as though he were a character in a video game learning new skills and techniques and then leveling them up. This makes him ridiculously powerful, in theory, but in practice he is still just a noob who must contend with veterans not bound by his video game logic.
There are quests, mini-bosses, monsters, and achievement scores, but like an MMORPG the protagonist exists in a vague constant state of conflict against other "players" who make a living by hurting innocent people in a variety of creatively cruel yet profitable ways.

There is no arch-nemesis trying to take over the world, so much as there is a meaningless system that arbitrarily gives some people power over others as a matter of birthright. That probably sounds a bit crappy to you because it is essentially an allegory of our own reality, and whereas the protagonist struggles against the absurd logic of his new video game world, we too struggle against a universe where all life begins and ends with equal indifference, and where both cruelty and kindness exist only as a result of how people treat each other, regardless of whether they have supernatural powers or not.

He could choose to leave the supernatural world behind, but that would require ignoring his power and the suffering of others, and so as with real life he must continue to struggle and survive for the sake of living another day of doing more of the same, lest he decides to "end the game" in the same way our own game will one day end.

I really expected alot from this title. The premise is interesting. But after 50+ chapters there's still no conflict, twist, or anything even remotely interesting. It's just grind, grind, grind... grind... gr... zzzzz.... Seriously, it's just like in games really; what's the point in grinding if you're not planning on continuing on with the story? You'll be like Ash, running around Veridian forest with a lvl.99 Pikachu. Fun.

I think the author really has no sense for conflict. He tried to stir something up some chapters ago but it seems like he gave up on it. And went back to grinding. Maybe the author should've gone with a slice of life comic or something. Action just doesn't suit his style.

I like the series a lot, i like the protagonist a lot, but the story pace is so slow, with 55 chapters under its belt, ~15 were actually story, 40 were training montages, and it doesnt seem to be leading anywhere

edit: with Season 1 over, 86 chapters in, Im giving up, the series had potential and wasted all of it, since NOTHING happened for 70 chapters the author pretty much pulled a season ending out of his ass with the main character barely participating, he is either completely out of ideas or completely bored with the series, i doubt this is ever going to go anywhere

There's essentially zero conflict throughout the story. The chapters don't even end at interesting points! The main character just gets stronger each chapter, and then... nothing whatsoever happens. And not even the training itself is remotely interesting.
Ridiculous.

...to wait for episodes to come out !!! ..love every chapter, im reading hundreds of mangas at the same time and this one has been my fav since started. its light, fun and it keeps me wondering. also im a hardcore gamer...i read mangas while i play.

SO GOOD.
I love the whole concept, and it's executed rather well! A great main character that I sympathize with a lot (I haven't even been annoyed once) and a good plot. (SPOILER->) I'm just a little confused on who the "bad guy" is because the current "bad guy" hardly fits the criteria.... I'm just not sure what comes next! Which is also nice...

ANYWAY: It's a great read! Recommended

After reading 47 chapters, I see that this comic is stalled. Seems like the author just loves his MMOs, particularly the grinding part. The little bit of plot that we thought we had was an illusion, and seems like nothing will get out of it. Be prepared to face the MC fighting lots and lots of chapters worth of monsters and commenting how cool it is to be living the game while he levels up.

There is a serious lack of writing skills by the author. Nothing ever happens.

Being a huge fan of both video games and mangas, a combination of these two would be just up my alley, so for that reason I had high hopes for The Gamer. In the 20 or something chapters, it had me captivated. It had a fast pace, the characters are somewhat enjoyable and the MC grows stronger at a steady pace, which I find satisfying to watch. But the story has now been extremly slow, with very few twists and turns, which the author could easily put write into the story. There are also a lot of plotholes, but I'm willing to skip that part, as long as it starts rolling along quicker. I hope the author fixes this ASAP, so I'm going to hold off on my judgement till 'bout chapter 50.
