I was totally surprised how much i ended up liking this manga! I was really hesitant to read this for so long because i was afraid it was going to be all about acting like Glass Mask. However it was a good combo of their ambition to be actors and love for one another. The pace was excellent with enough progression you did not get bored and more intimacy than a usual shojou manga shows. BUT the only thing i didn't get, is why so many ppl were obsessed with the ITO, the main heroine. Not only does her brothers have a sister complex, but she is always kidnapped by her persistent 3 stalkers...Also both main characters are tough martial artists, so why the hell did they never beat the living day lights out of the guy who keeps screwing with Mako?? Besides those two quirks, if you like sweet romance with actions and gender bender this is a must read

When i saw the genres as "gender bender + school life + shoujo" i automatically think "k girl shishes her boobs, goes to school as a guy, falls in love with room/classmate and theres your comedy"
But WOW didn't think i could be so close, yet so far o.o
Im rating it low to start out with as its ok at the moment, im finding it ackward because, even though i know their real genders, i can't tell sometimes.... which i don't know if its a good or a bad thing for the author o.0
so ya, i'll update this later once i read more of it but its definitely caught my interest
EDIT:
K so like i promised im updating my opinion
But theres not too much to change really, after a while it finally became more clear as to the fact that Mako is indeed a man, but i found it took too long to really clearly define that... i found it unrealistic that a guy could dress up as a girl so convincingly with no natural hitches (all the problems were made from people who already knew his secret)
But i have to admit, i keep the rating higher than i though because the love part is cute at times. I think its a good read and i'd recommend it to people who like this type of genre compilation... i guess you could call it that xP

That is basically the idea of this manga. Add romance, quirky characters, gender-bending and ninja action, and you get a nice fluffy read. Not my favorite though. Why? Because there are some aspects of the plot that irks me. First are the stupid fillings with mermaids and gosts that have nothing to do in this non-fantastical manga. Then, the evil doers are just a joke and not serious at all, so you don't get this "what-are-they-gonna-do-now-to-get-out-of-this-situation" feeling. And last, the fact that when at the end I look at Mako, he is still way too feminine for me (I didn't mind so much the female lead looking boyish).
But I still had a good time reading it and I think every gender-bender addict should give it a try. I actually liked that it was a male disguised into a female.

That Takayo girl is one of the most pathetic characters i have seen in such a long time, why doesnt she get the clue that Makoto has absolutely no interest in her. she is so annoyingly clingy and stupid, i cant stand her. and what is with her brother? sometimes i feel like he is in love with her, and i wish he'd just start dating her and leave makota alone. Also, doesnt japan have a Juvenile Detention center? He tried to hurt Makota early in the story they should have sent his psycho butt to a juvey center... Anyway, i love the main girl character, it is refreshing to see a girl that is strong and nice as the main character. she does cry but when she does its for a good reason, she is smart, but she is not very feminine or pretty, but that doesn't detract from her character at all, if anything it makes her more charming.
edit: anyone else annoyed how in volume 7 mako reveals his secret to help that annoying brat? i kinda wish iko had slapped her for acting like that for no good reason. i couldnt care less whetther this brat is a singer or not. just a wasted chapter...

I've tried to read this several times, and I just can't get into it. I typically prefer gender benders where the girl is cross dressing, but i'll read the other way around too and enjoy it. This one not so much though. Maybe it's because the female lead was so masculine. When females dress up like males, the male lead is still very masculine, even more so because he has to out- masculine the female lead... but in this manga the female lead almost tries to out-masculine the male lead, and he tried to be more feminine. I'm not really into guy on guy and i think that's what this manga is aiming for. In hana kimi for example, you can always tell who the man is and who the woman is, even though they're both 'men'. In this one, you really can't tell by only looking you would have to read the story to know who is male and who is female, because it always looks reversed. And because of that, when there's a love scene you kind of get the sense that it's really guy on guy.
I read up until the first volume the first time, the second volume the second time, the sixth volume the third time... i keep trying because after a while, you run out of decent gender benders, but this one just never seems to redeem itself.
