Survival

Is this manga unique? nope definitely not. You want complicated relationship or drama? you won't get it there. Do you want straight forward survival genre with a sprinkle of mystery genre? You will get it in this manga.

Despite being a cliche fest, Eden no Ori able to keep being interesting from the start to the end, thanks to the mystery and the action, and this is exactly why survival genre is great when you're not putting unnecessary element in it.

awesome, but I hate cliffhanger!

Thanks God the moment I start read this manga it's completely scanlated! I've been stayed up 2 nights just to finish this manga..

Overall, It's an awesome manga that makes me want to continue reading without bothering to sleep!
But still, I don't like the ending. It's kinda rushing to solve the problems of 21-volumes-manga in just 3 chapters. Not to mention the cliffhanger that didn't answer all the question in my mind.

There are a lot of things that ticked me off:
  • what happen to Kouhei?
  • who is Hades?
  • is Saji really died?
  • did the real Miina get her memories back?
  • what is that beak-thingy that suddenly emerging on the plane's body when the shock occurs in the first chapter?
  • what the Pilot knows about the island? (He said about they must quickly go back or else it will be too late)
  • where did they find the ropes? moreover, TONS of it? sure they used ropes a lot.
  • stupid but can't get my mind out of it, what the girls use when they're on period? it's not like they have a lifetime-supply of sanitary napkins considering they don't even have that many spare clothes
  • and HOW they could build such sturdy shelters with lack of equipment and it's not mentioned that any of them is a architect or something like that

My assumption and (still other) question:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
- They don't really die but hence thrown into the future
I think when suddenly the plane surrounded by a pitch black regardless it's noon after the plane-shock that's when they get through to the other dimension and the fact that the searching team couldn't find any traces of plane crash
- Is it a/an (endless) causal theory?
they aren't died, but thrown to the future where the project to commemorate them take place. that place build because they disappear. If the project didn't started, the won't thrown to 'that world'. and if they didn't thrown to the future, the project itself won't be started. geeez
- what will happen after they go outside the island?
if they really make it comeback to Japan, will they back to the 3-years world after their disappearance? or they will back to the faaar future world following the situation on the island? or they won't make it anywhere since they're on the other world?
- if they really died on a plane crash, what happen to those who died on the island?
are they died twice? but since dead+dead = minus+minus will give a positive results, are they reincarnated? uh oh just forget it
- it is possible that 'Hades' is really Hades
if the possibilities are they really died, maybe he's really the God of underworld. whether they're ghosts that 'locked' on that island or in fact that the island is the underworld itself, Hades just keep an eye on them right?

Well, Maybe it's best to keep the manga as it is, but still I hope the author make a sequel to answer those questions.
Anyway, I don't like Yarai be with that glasses-sensei. It's better if he's with Segawa instead :<

The story was fantastic! Amazing series all the way through... except the ending. That sucked so hard it'd outrank an industrial vacuum cleaner. I think it was an obvious case of rushed/ending which left too many questions unanswered. I'd give the story itself a 9 but maybe a 1 for the ending. I'll average it down to about 8.5 since the vast majority was epic.

Pretty. Damn. Good.
Though it may be a tad unrealistic, considering the kids' ages and all, the plot TOTALLY makes up for it! Goddamn I read this series and I was totally MINDFUCKED. BRAINBANGED. WTF-WAS-GONNA-HAPPEN-NEXT feeling... Lmao. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED. IT HOOKED ME JUST FROM THE VERY FIRST CHAPTER! Bloody hell.. It explains a lot of knowledge and about human emotions in a very interesting way along with tactics and a lot more. Very creative story. Well deserved 10 from me. smile READ IT OR YOU REGRET IT KIENTS!!!

P.S. Im reading a lot about how "the art isnt good" blah blah... WHAT THE FOOK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! It takes so much fucking skill to draw those crazy creatures and shizzz!!! The characters arent bad either, sure Kouhei looks ugly for a supposedly 'hottest guy in school', but its not the art that should make you judge the manga... Why not read the first chapter? Itll take less that 10 mins of your time that you totally wont regret.

EDIT: The ending was completely rushed and left many plot holes in the story. Bullshit ending... It had so much potential too.. It got me all excited for nothing lol.

To sum it up

Basically what KrisKelvin said.

Unrealistic and cliche shounen content (for some people), but the mysterious situation they are in makes up for it. Read for the plot, not the animals or the girls. The plot development is really something.

i really like this manga because the story and drama is pretty good and there is a lot of interesting characters. and i personally disagree with people who say the arts bad because first of all the art of the animals like the saber tooth lion was really cool and i know the character's art is a little less serious for this serious survival story but thats the defference between Seinen manga and shounen manga cause if it was dark, depressing but amazing art it would more a Seinen manga, and i like the art the way it is cause it gives a less depressing vibe

I love this kind of manga!

survival or something it really shows the darkness of people when things got crazy but then there are people who can managed to stay in shape even in this condition. people who have darkside somehow show their true self in this kind of situation specially those who take advantage.
the author did well in showing how people will react in this kind of situation and the worse people who already have darkness is one of those people making it more of a hassle for the protagonist
oh I love the characters all of them has a specific rule in this manga.

i'm in the newest release i really wonder what that woman said attacked by the bear is kinda sounds fishy for me since it is an era of dinosaurs.

Spiraling & unconvincing

The (only) good: the story really sucks me in. It's thrilling, suspenseful adventure that at the end of every chapter I'm at terrible urge to know what's next.

The not-good(s):
- I appreciate how the author goes to length to create and build up the world in this manga, it is nonetheless flawed. It's good story-telling. But as I reach towards the end, I can't find it convincing enough all that happened, the logic map behind, the loop holes that were left, and the many... unseen disappearances (from formerly canon characters at least).
- Then the main characters are kind of blown out of proportion in term of oversized heroism. Many times too cheesy I cringe.
- Again, many phenomenon just somehow solve themselves? Skip over? Unexplained? It's annoying.

The author-knows-his-audiences but kinda overdo the grossness (for me because I might not be his audience): boobs and panties. Looking at the year the publication began 2008, I kinda get the fetishism and trends at the time. It's still difficult to digest in this time and age.

At the end, it is somewhat satisfying, happy-ending. So at least that's something to look forward too.

when i first discovered this manga it got me going to the point that i ended up sleeping at 5 am, it was super amazing
until it started getting those cliche,
after that it followed with an ending which i never really like
sure they explained the purpose of the island, how it was build and how build it, why are supposed to be extinct animals are there well and alive..
but there are some more mystery left

like who is Hades - how exactly is he connected to Akira, why did he attempted to kill Akira? What happened to him and Kohei? - this is the question been bugging me like forever! ever since he shows up!

though
art - 10
story plot - 8 (cuz it went down the hill)

Even if it stays true to it shounen roots and all that
but I like the survival theme and the protrayal of the prehistoric mamals is good (no Dinosaurs) the mamals of that time suffered of gigantism (i'm not joking)
one thing i don't like is the country ideal i find it irealistic they ought to start with a tribe or a village (towns didn't emerge until later when population growth reached a certain threshold )
---update
i wonder about the new "X people remaining" is it a reverse chapter counter like the one in "Battle Ship Yamato" ??
