Had potential, fell off a steep cliff

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
If you read Naruto from the beginning, you will get a sense of great excitement in anticipation of the future of the series. There's Naruto who has a legendary uber-powerful monster sealed inside him, Sasuke whose clan was annihilated and wants revenge, Orochimaru who is nearly the best villain ever, Kakashi and Gai, Kabuto, Sandaime, legends of past awesome ninjas like the hokages and the how the story and characters are affected by them. Etc. etc.

However, Kishimoto fails to capitalize on this great beginning to his story and gets carried away. Everything up to Naruto vs Gaara can be said to be the best part of the series. With the start of Naruto chasing after Sasuke, the series start going downhill. At some point it gets ridiculous. Right up until Naruto vs Sasuke, I still very much enjoyed the series. The fights were awesome back then. Deep and exciting.

With the 2-year time-skip, the manga loses control altogether. Naruto's training with the legendary ninja Jiraiya only yields Oodama Rasengan that he uses once, that's all. And it drains him too. The story starts sucking majorly. Akatsuki is cool and all, but the story is crap. Orochimaru is forced into the sidelines and people less interesting than him get all attention. Sasuke powers up, so much so that Naruto may as well have been not training at all during the two years. I forget other details, but this time was boring as hell.

Akatsuki easily captures the bijuu that we were led to believe were truly formidable, almost invincible monsters with near unlimited chakra and stuff. And the people who caught them? Most of them don't have the kind of power needed to battle a capable jinchuuriki even 2 on 1. But they caught them anyway.

Battles in part 2 are really shallow and boring. Compared to the battles in part 1, in the chuunin exam and the Sasuke-chase, these battles don't even compare. Of course, power-wise it levels up, as shounen genre demands, but the content and depth does not match up.

Towards the end, Kishimoto finally went full senile. Manga became a total wreck. All the people of the past we thought of as awesome were brought back to life and their characters ruined. The images tarnished. Really! Orochimaru becomes a side character. Tobi turns out to be Obito, ruining Kakashi Gaiden. Sasuke comes back to fight the good fight. Oh boy. Madara comes back to life and single-handedly, with little effort wipes out the previous and current kages that we considered capable shinobi. The bijuu are less than toys before him. Obito becomes Sot6P, kinda, but becoming juubi jinchuuriki. He's OP, but still loses. Madara takes his place. Heck, even I'm getting confused writing this. Umm, oh yeah, the real Sot6P comes and gives Naruto and Sasuke new powers, they battle Madara. Madara is back-stabbed by Zetsu (!!!). Turns out Zetsu really works for Kaguya, Sot6P's mother(!). She tries to destroy everything after getting rid of Madara. Naruto and Sasuke, with Obito's help (!!) manage to beat her. *gasp* I need a break. Hmm, then Sasuke back-stabs Naruto (!!!!). They fight to a draw.

I give up. Kishimoto sucks.

10 reasons to burn it - it's not worth

Just like Naruto I have 2 kids now

1. Terribly getup (that drop leg holster of sasuke is killing me)
2. Too many characters and no character development
3. Terribly bad plot-wise
4. Too many flashbacks
5. They just talk
6. For breaking ninja codes and protocols
7. 71% of story is about Sasuke
8. Battles sucks and sometimes you will miss the important parts
9. Too much training (What they teach in ninja school?)
10. Boring as hell, story is the weakest aspect

A masterpiece on every level!

What got me into the series initially was that I thought ninjas were cool when I was a kid. What kept me in it and made it my favorite series were the psychological warfare in the battles. A character will attack a certain way in order to decieve the opponent and make them fall for thier trap. Kind of like in death note where light has these awesome plans go well. I cannot give examples without giving spoilers so I won't. Unfortunately as the series progress the fights get less psychological in general and more like super heroes shooting energy but I grew to love it for other reasons over the years such as the artwork improves and the characters have a place in my heart. To me, this series will be a legendary classic right up there with DragonBallZ. I'm feeling so much nostalgia to know that it is over. Hopefully you will grow attached and love it like i did.

The ending is fanservice
by SephiriaChronos

Rating: 6.0  / 10.0
The ending doesn't make sense. It killed off all the development made for the past 698 chapters and ended with some of the most ridiculous pairings.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Naruto professed his love for sakura throughout the series but yet they didn't end up together? Stop kidding me!
Then what was the 698 chapters there for? If he's not going to follow up on it he shouldn't have spent so much time focusing on that.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Seriously did Sakura not grow up after all the hooha with Sasuke and Naruto? It's unbelievable that they can get married after that.
Her character development flew right out of the window, faster than light.

Not to mention some of the character design is obviously flawed if you consider the facts of the series.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
How can the children of Naruto have whiskers, unless you're telling me it's a male preg and the father is really Sasuke.

There's also the behaviour of the main characters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
towards their kids. Sasuke and Naruto knows about the loneliness of childhood without parents yet they neglect their children for some reason. And no, being Hokage doesn't justify anything.

There are so many other things I can say to back up my reason of how many things are wrong but forget it, I'm not in the mood. I can only say the ending is pure fanservice and the pairings are there just for the sake of the
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
side series that Kishimoto is going to make.
Because of the ending I'm going to give it a rating of 6. This is so ridiculous that it's not even funny.

All in all, sorry, I'm not going to read anything else made by this mangaka.

im actually happy it already ended cause there are circumstances where the author goes AWOL or dies before completing it and the ending is not that bad couldn't ask for a better one

Good from beginning but ended.... below expectation

Sigh.... thats ending couldnt be any less cliche......
I loved the show bought at least the first 50 volumes, now what do i see at the ending, an ending predicted by everyone years ago.

I wont lie the show was the beginning of my addiction in anime and manga in 2003, it still leave me sad yet happy that the show ended.
it started amzing good, but kinda drop in its final arc. Now i dont mean the final arc was bad, its just that 4 year worth in this arc could have been done in 1 or 1 1/2 year. But still i wont say the story was not enjoyable, just...... expected more to that.

No spoiler

Story
Story was amazing in the beginning through the show, Its down fall was the final arc which seemed could have been done alot shortter. For the ending, it was really nothing new, very cliche in a story. You could tell exacly what to expect in the ending from years ago.

Art.
The art never was dissapointing to me, there is no reason to hate it, the artist stayed true to its quality though you could tell there were sometime rush work there btu i guess it might have been deadline.

Character
All enjoyable at first but.... some could be very annoying and some should have gotten more screen time. Many other character were more interesting and you could tell that some of the artist that work with the project like them to because of how well the were drawn.

Overall
I loved the show, it was my childhood enjoyment. I wont say it had its bad time but it was something i grew up with so it is sad for me to see it go. Though the ending was not to my expectation i still loved the show.

This show will keep my 9/10 i gived to it years ago, this is how original viewed it. But if i had to be honest with its rating at the ending it will get a 6/10

Peace

After 12-13 years of the manga that introduced me to the manga/anime scene, it is now time for a heartfelt farewell. It's going to be incredibly diffiult to check for updates each week, knowing that none will come... As it is though, all things must come to an end! Thank you for all these years Kishimoto and i wish you the best of luck!smile

I hate endings

Don't get me wrong i am not going to say i loved this series the most or that its the worst because of the many flaws of it. im just mainly sad that idiotic boy that i read about much earlier on has grown up to the point the manga has stopped. im not gonna say i enjoyed the 7ish years that Ive spent going in and around jap media but seeing as how this was the first manga that i read i feel a sense of sadness since its finished, since somewhere i thought this might all ways go on forever. i do not hate the ending that was there but i hate endings in general. that said this is the end of old Naruto (atleast naruto himself i heard there was going to be a spinoff) maybe the Naruto universe will go on but the book spanning 7years has slowly closed for me. its been great and cheers for another few more years of anime. i think i will be going to go outside for now

Awesome Series but Shippuden part is Only a Replay...
by Xiximaro
October 31st, 2014, 5:24pm
Rating: N/A
Whatever anyone says this is a good series, that is until Shippuden starts... Action, art, comedy, drama, this has everything. But there is a huge flaw, a good series has a good introduction, development and conclusion. This one is just like the majority of Shounen manga,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the conclusion sucks. The reason I wrote in the title that it's a "replay", is because the story after Naruto comes from training with Jiraya goes the same way when half the story ended.
The later half(Shippuden) is just like the first one with just a difference at the end. You have a lot of new awesome fights and all, but all you see is Sasuke being bipolar and Sakura a bit**... In the first half it's understandable but in later one is just tiresome, the reason is because the end will be the same has they were kids, Sasuke makes himself as a victim as always and Naruto has to fight yet again with Sasuke, when Sasuke is weak he turns ally of Naruto but when he becomes stronger he turns a douche and tries to kill Naruto has always, so the later half will lead to the same has the first did, no originality there...
Frankly speaking I suppose no one likes a long series to have a predictable story, but that is what you get, because has most Shounen, the author is afraid to make a daring ending has he planed at the beginning for sure, pretty much like the author of Shingeki no Kyojin who change it because of pressure(can't be sure if it was a good decision or not)

So if you are looking for an awesome and different series, you have come to the wrong place. If you want something unpredictable and captivating until the end you are better of reading Berserk, Akame ga Kill!, One Piece or something similar. Even if you don't agree with this review, just remember that the plot will always end in something that it did in the beggining, the fate of some characters may differ or not, but the premise will always lead to the same. In my opinion, this being a 15 year long manga series, will surely give you a bitc** slap when you finish it.
In conclusion, first half a 10, second half a mediocre 6 score... If the manga was divided in two like the anime, the title would be "Naruto: Puberty Starts, But They Will Still be the Same".
