It spent so much time building up Natsu and Lucy, and then he fucking friendzones her.
I tried the series once when it was new, judged it as an attempt to rip off One Piece and moved on but i picked up our volumes on a slow day at my library job because i heard some crazy things on the web and flipped through the series again. What i saw was unoriginality to the max, tasteless ecchi (with a scene of sexualized torture standing out), no real stakes or world logic and borderline plagiarism. Is Kodansha trying to troll Shueisha here as i saw Franky and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. So the only difference to One Piece is that the Fairy Tail constantly throws it's female leads under the bus, lacks any tone and now managed to rack up about 10 (!?!) spin-offs.
Two points off and zero interest on my side remains. Read the recent Blind Faith Descent (9/10) for a good and rather dark adventure series with a comparable setting or SJ's stuff. They at least have a proven formula.

Fairy Tail is my favorite because it's the first manga I have read, but it really is a very typical fighting shounen. I like that the fights don't last too long, and the humor is great -- one of the reasons I got so hooked. I also like the mostly lack of training arcs. The heros/heroines get stronger by random and trolling means.
There's enough fanservice for it to be ecchi, which I personally don't like, but I absolutely love the art style. Mashima is an excellent artist.
So if you like mainstream shounen with random power-ups, friendship speeches, a hot-headed hero, and the like, then I suggest Fairy Tail. If you're looking for something unique, then this probably isn't the best.
edit: not even my favorite anymore. Nothing has been solved (dragons, Zeref, etc), and it's 90% boobs and butts. No good.

because of the manga, sometimes when I watch the anime I feel like I already watched it before

You might say 'generic' this or 'no plot' that but truth is....this manga is good. Sure its arc based and its echhi but hell I like it. It is an 'echhi' manga, if you don't like echhi then don't read it!! Simple isn't it lol. I'm sure most other fans of this manga agree with me as well.
This manga is a very enjoyable - it never tries to be something its not by being too serious and plot line is a slow trickle that's mixed in with the other story arcs. It might be a mixture of all things 'shounen' but that just makes it great since its all done really well. Its not the best but if you like magic, friendship, action and a whole lot of fun then this the manga for you. If not, read Berserk or Ubel Blatt since you're clearly not the demographic.

Fairy Tail is a overall good SHOUNEN manga. So it is directed at young boys and teenage boys. The themes of friendship and morality is normal for this type of manga. It is a battle manga too, but it does not have lengthy battle scenes like other manga do. Plot is very easy to follow. Fairy Tail does have plot twists that are nothing extravagant but simple enough to follow and you should not get lost in the plot because of them.

like others said, this manga is going downhill. The formular for EVERY single battle is: strong enemies -> main characters almost die (in about 1-2 chapters) -> because of friendship and that famous skill "belief/hope no jutsu" (in about 3-4 pages) -> main chars win (in about 1-2 pages). seriously, wtf
? totally nonsense and it's getting on my nerves. so yeah the plot and development is terrible, boring and looping, with unnecessary fanservice (that's ecchi? i call it almost-hentai).

Title says it all. Every character remains the same, only the plot change. AT LEAST Bleach and Naruto give us an idea on why their protagonists are strong. The authors show how they accumulate strength and skill overtime. With this manga, I don't know how Natsu is able to kick all of his opponents' ass, except he has special dragon magic ability. Good story at first, but gets redundant REEALLY fast.

This manga is better than bleach, but of course one piece is still much better. There is really no main plot. There are a lot of subplots though which i say not bad if there is a main plot. Although the plots are a little narrow or simple, the episodes are tolerable. Hopefully each arc are longer and much more leaner or something. There are episodes that could be done in one episode...if you know what I mean.
Also it's not always about friends or nakama or guild or something. There are much more things in life than those things. Im hoping to see significant character growth in the future.
To summarize, the story lacks substance. Substance over form. Nevertheless, ft is still much better than bleach.

Not much to say. Starts funny as a lot of these manga do... and gets annoying pretty fast... and then gets more annoying... and even more... and then boring...
It is just another endless fighting shonen. You'll see the same over and over again for, like, a 1000 chapters, always the same meaningless fighting bs...
