This manga is awesome, but I can understand people who cannot adapt to its style at first (like me). Fortunately, there is a great anime and live action available for such people. Once you have seen them and have been blown away by their quality, you can come back and read the manga so as to thoroughly enjoy it this time around. Can't wait for the next release!

As odd as this may sound being as it is that I'm on a site dedicated to manga, I'm not a huge fan of the medium. I'm a book reader, so pictures actually annoy me when I'm trying to read something. I've tried a few times to get into comics and manga but always ended up picking up something with over 600 pages and no pictures and found more satisfaction.
That being said, I love this manga. I was originally pointed in the direction of the live action show and was a bit cautious when I approached it. I couldn't figure out how classical music could be fun. I'm very glad I took the leap. The show is one of my favorite ever (not just within Jdramas). Since I liked that so much I thought I'd give the manga a try.
It's fantastic. I spent the better part of one day just reading through NC (with breaks; the pictures were too much for my eyes). Is they anybody that doesn't love Nodame as a character? She's funny, sweet, and over-the-top in a way that actually endeared her to me. Chiaki, as stuck up as he is, has enough moments where his inner self shines through that I don't want to beat him over the head with a baseball bat. Then of course there's Mine and Masumi. If you want to know about them, you'll just have to read the manga or watch the live action (which is one of the closest adaptations of anything written I've ever seen).
I guess because I could never get into manga before and I don't really know what typical manga artwork is, the drawing style of NC seems just fine to me. Like I said, the pictures hurt my eyes after a while, but that's normal for me with any comic/manga. While it is simple overall, the orchestra scenes are enough to make up for that in spades.
I'll be sad to see this series end, but I'm also looking forward to seeing where everybody ends up. And I'm not going to lie, I want to see the entire manga series made into a live action series with Ueno Juri and Tamaki Hiroshi. They have fantastic chemistry and Ueno Juri just plain rocks as Nodame.

I'm just gonna say, if there is 100 volume of this, I'll buy and read them all, and never get tired. Yeah....its pretty damn good.
Very original (art, characters, plot, all of it)... so it's refreshing to read...
I love how the author truly makes you feel the power of the music without you hearing a single sound. I'm not a classical music fan, not all all, but even I felt impressed with the concerts and musical performance.
The way the art is drawn and how the story is told, truly conveys the feeling well.
Funny, unique characters that just grow on you more and more. The characters are really unique. Nodame is such a shameless odd-ball that you can't help but fall in love with her. Really, she had me laughing out loud so many times, I've lost count. The way she and Chiaki became is a couple is also hilarious; an all-out brawl in the middle of the night in Paris... hahaha, a classic. Love how they interact! Chiaki maybe a grumbly straight-lacer but when he's with Nodame, it's like she knocks the air of dignity out of him, and what is left is an exasperated, baffle-minded prince who can't understanding why he's so in love with such a weird, odd-ball of a woman. Remembering it now makes me smile.
The story plot is exciting, hilarious and addicting; I read 14 volumes in 2 days... and now I'm trying to be patience while more comes out. lol
Kudos to Ninomiya Tomoko for character creation and plot development.
Hope, more people'll give this a try and see just what a great story this is.
Oh yeah... and the art is really pretty. (Might not seem so eye-catching at first, but many pages left me in awe because of the attention to detail and simple beauty of it).
Try it out... I think you'll like it.

I started with the anime so I didn't get a chance to go "Huuuh" at the artwork of the manga before I was hooked, dragged out of my comfort zone and bitten by the classical music bug. NC is quite inspirational in it's own right - I mean, it got me interested in my piano again, that's amazing! The only bad thing is probably the artwork. But that's ok. If you start with the anime, by the time you finish, you'll be too big a fan to care! It doesn't matter either way, it's a must-read.
It's a got a good story, it's refreshing and laugh-out-loud funny, the characters are lovable, the main girl, Nodame, especially so! And I love the canon pairing! ChiakiNodame! Their romance might be off to a...poor start, but Nodame will fix that. <3

I enjoy reading Nodame, I like it so much that I slept to little to catch up. But it doesn't keep the same high level all the way through. Some parts are 10/10, while others are as low as 5/10. It evens out somewhere around 8/10.
The live-action was simply better, hearing the music really makes a big difference when you have no idea what it should sound like.
