this series is one of the best series i have ever read but to read it you have to pay atention because all of the twists and turns are confusing if you dont pay atention but if you stick with it to the end and dont lose intrest then i will be one of the best things you have ever done(manga wise) and the ending is to die for just brilliant 10/10 in my opinion the auther (for his first ever manga) can be very proud of his series because i will always remember this as one of the best ever mangas and the ariest can be very proud aswell the art is one of the best ive ever seen 10/10 on art and they came together to produce this master piece ive had my say now its up to you to decide so give it a shot you wont regret it
Breath taking

Death note was one of the first manga I ever read, and I can say for sure it is one of the best manga I have read so far. Story is breath taking and exciting, art work is very good. The only downside is the large amount of text, sometimes it feels more like your reading a good novel then a good manga.
Definitely worth reading!

This story is one of the best out there, no joke. It has a great mystery with a plot that will make you stay up all night wondering what will happen next.

I admit that when near and mello were introduced, it was a bit downhill (but still really goood!), but overall i cant give it a bad rating for just that part because plot-wise it is still a really well-crafted manga! none other beats deathnote for me (could be coz i havent read many others like it...if there are any ) - the whole concept of it was excellent and unique and kept me enthralled pretty much the whole way...
Update: the anime and live-action are awesome too! or maybe its just coz i love the series too much hehehe

Why do people who are dissapointed by this manga exist?

Simple really.
1. People adore L.
I understand that, as he is really cool and refreshing. Sadly, he gradually attracted to Light Yagami and lost his brilliant reasoning. And the kicker, of course, when the mangaka decided to stop L-saga and start a new Mello/Near-saga. Thus L fanboy got pissed, stopped reading, and started to rant and rant and rant and rant and rant again. If you doubt me, try to imagine what would happened if suddenly, without warning, Sasuke died, and Naruto chases a new character Ekusas, Sasuke's long lost twin. Get my point? Things would go ugly, and in this case, it exactly what happened in Death Note.
2. This manga has too many words.
There are even certain page which contains more than a hundred word. This also made people became impatient and stop reading. To fully enjoy Death Note, you have to read the manga down to every word. Sounds like pain I know, but once you decide to not to do this, I assure that you will get confused and ultimately loose interest in Death Note.
Don't be like them, they don't know what they missed. Read only if you like psychological manga. Death Note is like mint candy with liquid chocolate inside. Don't suddenly bite it just to taste the core, but let it flow and melt naturally until you get to the core. In other word, this manga is not for everyone for sure, but definitely still one of the best among its kind.

I started reading it because, for once, I wanted to see why there was so much hype about the manga, and I must admit that I found it interesting - at first. It went downhill when the girl appeared, I think. Her name was Misa, or something? Anyway, I personally think the worst point is where Light makes himself lose the DeathNote. I can't remember how because I was reading that part just for the hell of it. Then I found no other reasons to continue reading it, because it was obviously one of those "I'll continue this just to get money" mangas, and I hate that..
So even if it was refreshing at the beginning, I really don't see what the hype is about.

It started very good, i was rly drawn in and couldnt stop reading. The battle between light and l was very intelligent and interesting. But it went down the slope pretty quick. I got bored of it even before L's death. I couldnt finished this manga cuz i lost all my interest.
I like it

The first volumes were my favorites, I loved the L & Light fight. Then . . . volume 6 happened and I lost interest. I finished it & hey, Mikami, Matt and Mello are cool but . . . I liked the begining dynamic better.

Starts off pretty decent. Pretty interesting psychological battles. It gets lame after the timeskip though and the ending is very lackluster.
If your rating this a 10 you haven't read enough manga.
