Well, I can keep reading it.

Alright. I normally HATE it when the uke is as defenseless and spineless as Ayase, but considering Okane ga Nai was one of my first yaoi loves and I fell in love with little Ayase immediately, I find this series to be very addicting. I really do hate Kanou most of the time for his horrible treatment toward Ayase and get awfully annoyed with Ayase for being so passive, but I like how Ayase is so kind. I really feel sorry for him and love the sweeter side of his. He does not hate Kanou for everything he has done, which is something only someone really good-hearted could do, and he sees that Kanou can also be a bit caring every once in a while. I wish he could fight back even a little, for Pete's sake, but if you get past his rather frail and wimpy traits, you see he really is a good kid and has lived a hard life. He still can be positive after everything that has happened to him, which is an accomplishment and shows how strong he really is (in a way). But I really do find it hard to like Kanou. At all. I guess I still love the manga not only because of Ayase, but because Kanou would do anything for Ayase (except be nice). It is as if Kanou can be a complete d!ck to Ayase and hurt him all the time, but the second anyone else tries to even touch the kid he is dead. Kanou would give his life for Ayase, so I suppose I see something cute and intriguing in that. But no matter what, I cannot help how much I love Ayase. I seriously just want Kanou to be (even a bit) nicer, less aggressive, and more understanding of Ayase, as well as Ayase to be happy. Poor thing. =[ I do believe that he does like Kanou and mostly enjoys the sex they have like addicted2u said, but I think Kanou needs to listen more to Ayase and stop making him do things that only humiliate him. For example, he makes him take a video of his lower area while being played with, something I would have been furious and appalled by. He also gives him a blow job while Yamato is on the other side of the door, which is just plain mean. He needs to stop going over the top with his angry/hurt feelings and taking them out on Ayase by nastily teasing him like that.

Bored now

This was suggested to me by a friend so I decided to try it out of curiosity. Managed to struggle through the first few volumes but saw no real plot development and I found myself not really caring about the character's. This quickly bored me with the repetitive themes of dominance and rape plus I just can't accept that Ayase would make every guy around him, straight or otherwise, want to violate him in some way. It's a miracle if he's drawn without tears or blushing frankly and he's so whiny and pathetic I find myself just irritated by his continual complacency. My biggest problem with this was the art work, no matter how I look at it the huge difference in size makes Ayase look like a little kid which is frankly disturbing when it comes to the steamy scenes. I'm pitching my tent on the hate side of the fence for this one.

Hated it

I agree with all the criticisms people have said so far. When sensei was focusing on Kanou in the beginning of the series and his conflicts and struggles trying to express his feelings for Ayase and failing miserably (and being fully aware of it), I found the manga sweet and engaging. Again, when the transsexual (love him!) and the "how to tame wild animals" arc was introduced, I had high hopes, but it just switched to rape again. Once the focus switched to Ayase, it just became completely depressing.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
It's sad, too, because one of the hottest scenes that I find in this series (and indeed, all of yaoidom, and that I still keep as wank material), is preceded by a scene that completely breaks my heart, when Ayase finally realizes just how bad his situation is, but of course, this is ignored in favor of sex/rape. It doesn't help, of course, that he is the worst kind of feminine stereotype that just accepts everything and never fights back. After reading 2 1/2 vols, I'm giving up on this series, especially after reading people's comments. I'd hoped it might get better and Ayase might grow a spine, but if he goes on to get raped by anyone who looks at him cross-eyed, it might as well be Boku no Sexual and be done with it.

The art was pretty in typical shoujo style, but people are right, sex just became ridiculous when Kanou is 4-5 times Ayase's size. It also squicked me, considering Ayase is supposed to be a "college student", but the way the art is drawn, it looks like a 30-something man raping a 12-yr-old child.

Well, with O.G.N. you either hate it or love it, there is no in-between (or so it seems from the ratings). Personally, I enjoy it. I take it for what it is; plain smut with a plot (whatever little there is of it) driven by the usual cliches (obsessed friend turned psycho, kidnapping(s), continuous attempts to defile Ayase, and a multitude of "straight" men falling inexplicably in love with the pheromone secreting Ayase-kun). There is no character development (so far) or anything of the kind, all we are waiting for is for Ayase to finally admit that he likes Kurou and say the three little words that he has been waiting for. Just take it for what it is and enjoy the ride, I wish this title were licensed in the US by a good publishing house ( 801, please pick this puppy up!), but somehow, I don't see this happening.... soon anyways.

I like some control/slave scenarios, but this one managed to push all the wrong buttons for me. I found the way rape was handled here to be to unrealistic for me, and I also disliked the main characters. Ayase was WAY to whining, trusting and accepting. I know some people are very kind, but there must be limits. Like not liking the person that repeatedly rapes you, dictates your life and keeps you as a slave? After all that and he STILL just goes along with it (doesn't even seem to dislike Kanou) I find that I can't stand this character.

Kanou is way too overbearing. There were Nazis nicer then him. In the beginning he was set up to be the one to save Ayase, but that soon falls apart when Kanou rapes Ayase. The author suggests that Kanou did it because of how much he really loves Ayase, but if that were the direction the author wanted to go, then wouldn't Kanou stop raping Ayase? Wouldn't Kanou try to fix things, so that Ayase will love him back? The author makes a half-assed attempt at this, but fails when Kanou continues to rape Ayase whenever he gets the chance. BUT, somehow, that seems to work, and Ayase becomes accommodating to Kanou. It's wtf moments like this that made this manga hard to read for me. The cause and effect of their relationship just doesn't make any sense.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I understand how it seems like it is rape the way Kanou treats Ayase, but I firmly believe that that is part of the author's/mangaka's style. As in, they rarely show Ayase experiencing pleasure, it usually is Kanou saying things like, "Look you're hard again so fast even though I just..." or "I haven't done anything horrible, didn't I do everything the way you like it?" We only get snippets of evidence that Ayase actually enjoys the encounters however I know that he actually does.

Whilst it is true that the first time Kanou had sex with Ayase it was rape, the same cannot be said for every single encounter. In fact after the first few times, Ayase, through unable to accept relations between two men, is incapable of not enjoying himself. And whilst he does feel ashamed by his arousal, nevertheless, he is aroused.

Par example, although the sex scenes we witness usually has Ayase writhing around, mewling "No..." and people criticise Ayase for being weak, the truth is he is enjoying himself. This can be seen in Volume 3 I believe, when a recording is sent to Ayase's apartment. It's the sounds of him and Kanou-san having sex, and the first thing we hear is Kanou's voice saying, "Come on, lift up your hips. I'll do it the way you like." Before Ayase's voice drowns his out with a loud, "Ahh! Kanou-san!! It's great. More- more. Ahh!"

If that doesn't convince you, then what about the things Kanou says about Ayase? Such as, "You always get really into it during the middle." and "Why is it that when a guy just teases you a little through your clothes, both top and bottom get hard so easily?" I believe that being Ayase's only bed partner, he would know best.

And those who think it's non-con or rape obviously don't have enough understanding for the unique relationship between the two. It is quite evident that Ayase treats Kanou differently. Frequently preaching about how kind he is and what a special person he is to him. VERY early on within the manga, the perverted politician made sexual advances towards Ayase whilst forcing Gion to film their interactions, but from that point already, Ayase established a clear distinction between the gross feeling he was experiencing at the hands of the politician to the warm, loving one he feels when Kanou touches him, asserting, "It's not the same!" And even slaps the man. Proving that one cannot easily attest to the veracity of the assertions made by those who advocate how Ayase is spineless and defenseless.

Not only that, Ayase reacts very easily under Kanou's touch. When Kanou found him dressed in a nurse's costume, he decided to 'check' to see if Ayase was touched by someone other than him. All Kanou did was grope his ass a little but Ayase was completely aroused, causing Kanou to say, "How could I let this lustful body work in a place like that?!" This is a very different reaction had by one who was about to be raped, and Ayase has had people try to rape him before, and his expression is vastly different, usually filled with immense fear. With Kanou, it's more embarrassment that he's so aroused.

If you're still not convinced, think about when Ayase is drunk and uninhibited. He tends to start telling the truth more, as seen VERY early on yet again (to those who think Ayase was raped over and over again until he was forced to like it) when Ayase became drunk and when Kanou was touching him, Ayase moaned out, "Ahh! There!" and confessed he liked it, making Kanou pause a beat with surprise because, "he usually makes such a show of not wanting it." But he actually does want it. Why else would he always be so eager to have sex whenever he was drunk? It's because he becomes less inhibited, and loses his embarrassment and shame. I doubt Ayase would just jump into bed with whoever he was with when drunk.

Someone who was being repeatedly rape who not be so eager to have sex with their rapist even under the influence of alcohol.

'Nuff said.

I must tell u guys, it's a strange manga
although I somehow liked it...
I still find it extremely amusing how the two of then can have sex when the seme has like... his finger bigger than the uke's face...
and whatahell, rly, ayase doesnt have a penis or anything like it, it's there I know, waiting for something that I can't realize what it is...
anyway it's a good manga for some change but god, it's tiresome...

Typical and boring

The first time I read this manga. Seeing the face of one of the characters, I expected what I'm gonna see already. But I tried it anyway because a friend of mine kept urging me to.
And of course, there're all the yaoi goodies you epxect. Guy with gigantor eyes who has nothing telling you he's a guy except for a penis. The uke is extremely feminine, the way he looks and acts even more than a girl. It's kinda scary really. The plot is long, boring, and kinda pointless. Forced sex at the beginning, love blooms later, kidnapping, and all of that, repeated.
This is one of my most hated yaoi that gives non yaoi fan a wrong impression of yaoi.

Cute and who cares if development is slow

If it wasn't such a cute story then yes I would rate this like 3/10, Ayase isn't the whiniest uke I've seen really, more like "just right" (hello, he just got raped, then you just expect him to say "I love you" to that man?...though he is the hottest seme I have ever seen XD)This must be the first not-too-smutty yaoi I truly liked (it was actually my FIRST yaoi in history) and another thing; it's not NO DEVELOPMENT, it's SLOW DEVELOPMENT, which is something okay for a long series (seriously I want it to go forever) It's kinda likely they'll get together once everything is paid off (hope there will be twists though) there is just no way they won't get together (unless the mangaka wants to disappoint us or something) I prefer long series to one-shots because one-shots tend to be so repetitive. They almost always end with the "I love you" and then the sex and then happily ever after...actually almost every lovey-dovey yaoi ends like that but it's better for me if it's long

I just love how he can't CONTROL himself when Ayase is like around! That episode rules! So I really love this anime, I am like downloading the Manga right now, Hehehe.
