Well, it started off beautifully and the development was top-notch. However, as of late, it seems like the characters have not evolved any at all. And the plot is still stuck at the "Ayase and Kanou's secret" part. For a manga that was really interesting, I think the latest arc might have just spoilt things by a bit.

This is the only really popular yaoi manga that I just don't understand the appeal at all. I read up to volume three hoping that it would get more better, but it hasn't. My problem with the manga is the same as mitrutza. There is no character development, no plot development. Ayase is especially off putting for me because he embodies the type of *girl* that I dislike the most-- the weak, defenseless victim type with no real personality apart from the "innocence". Ugh. Three volumes in and he still remains a two-dimensional character.

yeah.....what a special manga.....lots of drama and tear.

I've read the first two volumes and I like it so far. Ayase is a little too girly but not enough to ruin it or anything. Not the best but it has a really steady, strong plot flow (most yaoi are one-shot-ish and jump around like none other).

The starting idea is promising, as are the fist volumes. Kanou is a strong, violent determined loan-shark who has absolutely no idea how to handle Ayase (this is the funny part) and wants to keep ayase close to him at all costs. Ok so far. As long as the story focuses on Kanou and his actions the story was quite nice. But once the interest shifts to Ayase and his emotions, it gets annoying. He's way too naive, more feminine than a girl would be, and everybody seems to want to f**k him (I’m not kidding; it's like 1-2 attentive rapes per volume).
You can see kanou trying to change to adapt to ayase's needs (he tries, but doesn't always succeed), but ayase doesn't evolve as a character. He just complys himself with his status innocent helpless little victim (not just kanou's victim).
Ok, I got the fact that this is yaoi with a veeeeeeeeery strong shojo influence, but how many time must we see the same "damsel in distress act"?

All in all, it started out interesting, but it has no plot development, and no relationship development, at least not in vol 3-6.

this is like.. one of the cutest yaoi I have ever read. It is an awesome manga. <333 its TOTALLY awesome!!!

This is my favorite manga everr!! The main characters are sooooo funny, even though the plot can be reallllly sad sometimes. Ayase is just soo adorable! =) Tohru Kousaka-sensei's chibis are the cutest things ever!
