Good build up, terrible end

I really enjoyed this series, read it multiple times over the years as it was being published. But the ending was atrocious. Sure, sometimes you might not like an ending but in this case a) I dont see how anybody could like it and b) its unclear if there really was an ending. One of the two main characters gets written out of the series with no explanation and then (possibly) reappears on the last page (as she hasnt aged its unclear if it isnt just Shiagawa daydreaming) for no real reason either. It was a nonsensical mess.

That ending...

I've been reading manga for 15 years and I've seen a lot of rushed, unsatisfying endings. It's unfortunately something that happens a lot in a serialized medium. When an author gets word that their series is getting cut they don't necessarily have time to tie everything up at the end. Even so, I was amazed by how phenomenally bad the execution here was.

After 23 volumes we are left with an ending that resolves nothing and explains nothing. Heck, one of the titular characters was basically written out of the story towards the end, without any justification. The idiotic and contrived twist in the epilogue did not help. Some new characters were introduced in the final arc and then weren't around long enough to actually do anything...what was the point of introducing them? Maybe that time could have been spent not completely neglecting the main characters, hmm?

It was a fun decent series with one of the worst endings I've ever read. And that just leaves a bad taste in the mouth...

Entertaining but long

A hug goofy manga with weird characters and even weirder situations. Now if you are looking for a big beginning and ending story line this one isn't going to be what you are looking for. No big resolutions, there was a lot of questions that didn't get answered and the ending was just kind of "blah". But if you want something to laugh at and pass time this one is great.

Horrible ending.

Good series, drug on forever, then rushed to a completely unsatisfying end. Wish they hadn't drug it out so much and actually spent time giving a decent end. There are some historically bad endings to decent manga, but this has to be in the top 10 somewhere imo.

Disappointed in the end

I loved the series but you can definitely tell the ending was either rushed or basically ignored. The last few chapters will be released by Kisu soon and honestly I expect a lot of negative comments about the mangaka's choice of endings. I wanted to throw something when I read the last chapter.

The story had its moments but dragged a lot of the times. The momentum of the story is often disrupted between chapters, especially when the author leaves a conflict unresolved and moves on to another conflict. The author also seem to have a tendency to introduce a new character, but then shift the focus on to something else which spans several chapters before coming back to re-focus on the new character (which by then, I would have lost interest or forgotten about the new character). This mostly happens in the beginning and less so as the manga goes on. I think this is part of the reason why I have difficulty remembering and maintaining interest in majority of the cast in the manga.

The art strongly reminds me of Mashima Hiro's works...which I like. I'm guessing the author may have worked with him before she started this manga or was somehow influenced by his works.

It had a lot of hilarious moments as well as frustrating face-palm moments - mostly in relation to Adachi Hana who, to me, doesn't seem to mesh well with other characters (her remarks are just too random and unrelated to the conflict at hand a lot of the time). There has been very little character development for Adachi Hana - hardly any moments of vulnerability, a betterment of character. She mostly just stays the same throughout the entire manga, oblivious and in her own world. Considering that she is the female heroine, the lack of character development and insight into her past is probably the most disappointing factor for me as well as the lack of romantic interaction between her and the male protagonist. But then again this manga was cancelled before anything about Hana's past could be revealed, sparks could fly between her and the male protagonist, or any character development for her. So I guess I'll cut the manga some slack.

But nonetheless, the manga is interesting and worthwhile to read when it isn't jumping all over the place, or introducing new characters left and right without elaboration on their stories.

Slowed down

I really enjoyed the first few chapters of the manga! I was laughing so hard at their antics.. But then the cast of characters gradually accumulated to the point where I wasn't really interested in more than half of them.

I read up to the latest scanlated chapter... but if I had stopped at the first volume, my rating would have been a 9.

I have the say that this tops the list for one of the worst manga endings I have ever read. It just makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Not only do we not find out anything about Adachi's background, they completely gloss over why she just disappeared for the graduation ceremony and for 4 years afterwards. Instead she just ends up returning as a high school student, again?! She got into the best university in Japan, and instead she is going through high school with people 8 years younger than her... I'm seriously at a loss for why the mangaka ended it this way, without tying up a lot of loose ends and providing some conclusion to the romance part of this manga.

I really didn't care for this, Adachi annoyed me to no end. I can't get past the first part of it without wanting to knock some sense into the girl. Just... don't like it, and honestly not funny at all. I barely crack a smile every 5 chapters. and just grew more boring as time went by.

At first I thought this was a shoujo-ish shounen manga but after reading a few chapters guess I was wrong. I mean, I never thought that the mangaka is a woman. Although one might think it's focused on Adachi and Shinagawa, I think from the start it was about Shinagawa. His sense of responsibility is quite amazing and he's very reliable. I love how some of the main characters have more to them than you think. But there's too much sub-characters it's hard to take track of everyone.

It takes abit of getting into and only really gets good after the other characters start appearing. But it is a shame that the focus had switched for Adachi and Shinagawa to just really on Shinagawa. It's just less interesting having it just focus on Shinagawa.
