Not my cuppa tea

I'm a softie, and I'll be the first to admit. I strongly dislike Hana Yori Dango's potrayal of people. Sending mobs against a girl and group bullying are called "they overdo it sometimes", etc etc. Sure, that's just the start of the series, but it started off by leaving a really bad taste in my mouth.

Then, there's the whole thing about gaining/losing status, jealousy, etc that drags out for ever. The male protoganist (although to me, he's an antagonist) appears to me as a child with a the clearance code to every nuclear missle in the world: cross him, and he'll nuke your ass, although getting nuked is probably more humane than what he's preparing to do.

But what I really disliked about the series was how, even with his horrible attitude, he is still potrayed as a protoganist, as the hero. Sure it's something new (a badass hero with a bad temper) (At the time it came out), but it certainly isn't my cuppa tea. As a matter of fact, the uniqueness wears out very fast, and I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth + another harem romance/drama. If I had to choose, I'd rather have a *good* taste in my mouth + another harem romace/drama.

But then again, that's just one guy's opinion. Give it a try (first few, mid-few and last-few volumes, since the direction of the series does change occasionally) and see if it'll suit your taste, before going marathon on it.

good read

I just spent like 13h reading all the volumes (in a row!!!!) I just couldn't tear myself away from it, regardless how draggy it was after like ch 100. I loved the female lead, definitely not the typical cliche shojo girl, even more for that time when this manga was written. The romance at first was really good, but after awhile it got a little cliche and spaced out not to mention they never even did it lol. Tsubasa was my fav from the beginning and I loved how the mangaka gave him straight hair in every important occasion (well at least in the beginning XD)
Ah and the ending was kinda weak too, would have expected at least a marriage or something, but nonetheless I enjoyed this manga, as it is one of the best in it's genre.

One of the greatest shoujos of all time.

This manga has it all. It has all the romantic guilty pleasures that make shoujo mangas stand out, but at the same time, written tastefully and with care. All the characters are lovable and the humor will make you smile. The main character is a girl to root for. This is a very sweet manga and one of the best.

love tsukushi the weed!

Behold! the strong female lead that I have bean searching for. Shes smart (but realistic), fun, hard working, devoted to her family and she sticks up for herself and her friends (and still isn't perfect). Tsukushi is one of my all time favorite characters from any story. She is very inspiring. The other characters are cool too, and they're all generally realistic people that you could meet (except for having god like amounts of money)

This series manages to be funny and dramatic in a well balanced way. Most of the characters have a TON of personality.

The only draw back of the series is perhaps its length. Its expensive to buy all those volumes, and I felt that the story went in circles a few times.

I Love It!!!!

Its the best shoujo manga I've read (apart from hana kimi and gakuen alice). I was kind of disappointed with the ending at the 36th volume. I mean, the whole thing was exaggerated to the point that i was sweating to know what was going to happen between Domoyoji (he's so crazy...I love him) and Makino (best shoujo manga heroine ever!!!! She's got a backbone!!). But after reading the oneshot, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this one.
Read It!!!

I'M IN LOVE

i must have been insane to have passed over this manga for the past 10 years or so. just goes to show, never judge a good manga by its art, which by the way, started improving tremendously from chapters 100 and above.

and now after picking it up, I JUST CAN'T STOP. Kamio Youko is really a genius, to have picked up all the deep and sensitive nuances of life. You can really tell how much she loves her characters, each of them lovingly crafted and created with life breathed into them. The main character Tsukushi is one of the best i've ever seen, and Domyouji, the male lead, makes my heart thump everytime he appears. What's especially amazing is how I fell in love with Domyouji despite that seriously whacked hairstyle of his, proof yet again, of the author's genius. (the bf is gonna be soooo jealous XD)

I don't think words would be ever enough to describe the pure adrenalin rush that is HYD, a true legend in the Shoujo manga world. I read all 180 chapters in a go, and still going strong. (fyi, I usually get put off by the 15th or so volume of most mangas)

I definitely loved this manga, is my all-time fave. The story is just excellent, really twisted, but very real too...it's not the typical shoujo fairytale. All characters are well developed and finally, the main female character is not a crybaby.

This manga was seriously amazing. One of the best I have EVER read.
Normally I get real hyped up about mangas as I'm reading them, then when they're finished, I think about it for a while, then start again. But now I'm starting this new manga but my head is still too full of Hana Yori Dango thoughts!!

This is an excellent manga (the ending was beautiful, despite what people said. biggrin), and the character developement was nice.
I know about a million other people have said this, but DON'T be put off by the art. I was, and read it about 2 months after I was deciding whether or not to read it (big mistake -_-).

A shoujo manga that definitely deserves a read.
