Description
Satoyama Katsuki is a carefree 15 year-old high school kid, and a pretty lazy one at that. However, he secretly has a crush on a girl who happens to share his name: Mizutani Katsuki. Upon finding out that Mizutani's father used to be a pro-boxer, and she herself infatuated with the sport, he reluctantly joins a boxing gym in order to impress Mizutani. Satoyama is quick to find out he may have the blood of a genius boxer running through his veins...

Adachi does it again...

With Katsu!, Adachi does what he does best again...great story telling. This isn't a "boxing" manga like Hajime Ippo per se, but it's a Adachi manga. This means it's a great comedy/romance story that is seemingly cliche yet with just enough twists to keep it interesting. I admit Adachi's specialty is baseball manga, but this is still worth a read if you like his style.

Good but not his best.

This story is soft, every problems was just solved easily. It doesn't mean that it's bad but it's lack of emotional, twist moment. Besides, boxing part doesn't met my expectation, it seems like Adachi is only really good at baseball story.
Anyway, the plot is still interesting and you can enjoy the unique storyteller.

It's addictive but flawed

The problem is that aside from the little bit of romance, it has a lot of fluff. Usually people think of fluff as side stories but there's another side to it. The way the story is written, is way too slow. Almost nothing happens, yet it introduces more possibilities. It develops way too slowly.

I'll have to lower my score. It starts to get ridiculous for no reason. Especially since no one want to even bother to develop a way to win against geniuses. Which is, of course, crap. There would sooner be a physical limit. Also since the romance barely happens, and the guy puts almost no effort into it. we have to assume she'll end up just liking him because he's just good at boxing.

Let's not forget that people seem to stop their lives just cause of him. This kinda thing worked in initial D but completely blew up in prince of tennis. And I don't think it works well here. It happens more gradually here but its still not that interesting.

My final addition: The writing is funny at times. I wanted to like this. But it is in a way, a bad story. With the character's aloof personality, it makes it seem like he's barely struggled at the end. The retcon of a love story, I don't buy it, neither do I buy the eye thing either. I was actually going to check out more of Adachi's works but this might have turned me off to him completely.

A bit conflicted about this one. I think I wouldn't have liked it if the sport in it wasn't boxing. But even as a fan of boxing I have to say it was pretty weak. I agree though about the awesomeness of Katsukis personality and the art was very enjoyable.

It really wasn't a bad manga. Got me completely hooked up even though I'm not really into sport-mangas.
I bit more focus on the characters and romance and this could easily have been a 10.

Ending was a bit too sudden. Sure, it wrapped some things up and left you satisfied, but it was simply too unexpected plot-wise.

Also: I dislike how this manga is only 20% Romance and 80% Boxing. Still, it was an interesting read. Main character had an especially awesome personality.

am i the only one here who was dissapointed with Katsu?
i mean, come on. this mangas basically empty pages grouped into around 15 volumes. despite the interesting beginning and the ok main character, there wasnt much else going on after the first few volumes. i think adachi made a huge mistake to keep this manga short, it really had a lot of potential, there were so many different substories and subplots he could have elaborated on, from the best friend, to the mom, to the girl trying to get the main character's affections, to the rival... the list goes on.

i am sorry to say that i didnt find this manga worth reading at all
