The characters each are interesting and have their own playing style which adds to the story. Weed is a fairly unique character. Weed is one of the few greedy protagonists that are done in a fun and interesting way. He initially started Royal Road for the purpose of making money and his various actions typically were for the sole act of money making. This makes Weed take interesting choices that adds to the story. Although some of the characters can be annoying at times, altogether it's a fun and addicting story.

Instead of reading these reviews, why not just check out the work? Personal taste is an important criterion of satisfaction.

While the premise is unrealistic, the first few volumes are wonderful. Amazing, delightful, a myriad of other similar adjectives besides. The story and primary developments are enticing and keep the reader engaged. Subsequent volumes (say, up to 25?) utilize this momentum and allow the reader to keep cheering for the underdog, Weed.

Along the way, however, Weed's accomplishments become overwhelming. While a natural consequence of such a story, the desert arc feels especially jarring and the series loses its original charm as Weed's abilities far outshine those of his opponents, a problem exacerbated by the lack of a well-established rival character, Bard Ray seeming more like an afterthought.

Note that my understanding of untranslated chapters is bare and relies on chapter summaries, which may affect the reliability of this review.

Regarding translations, those of earlier volumes, while not with perfect grammar, are definitely readable, while those of later volumes are of higher quality. However, a result of the translations' being done by different groups is the variety reflected in the romanization of proper nouns -- Ahreupen and Arpen; Jaffre and Zephyr; Pale and Fail; Surka and Sureuka; GeomChi and SwordNoob; etc. -- which may prove confusing. Notwithstanding this caveat and considering the length of the series, the translators have done an outstanding job.

The most detailed and comprehensive MMORPG world I've ever read. It's like "Ready Player One" meets "Sword Art Online". Easily beats out the likes of SAO, Ark, .HACK and others of the same genre.
Only issue is the english translations which isn't a fault of the author. You can see the translation quality drop off after the first 10 volumes.

4 years of my life i spent waiting on my phone and computer for the weekly (used to be) updates to this. I reread the story to the vampire kingdom arc more than 5 times and every time it did not fail to please and send goose bumps all over me with Lee Hyun's badassery

English fan translations are not that great, if there was proofreading done in the firs place, it was done poorly. With that being said, while 'chewing' on pages there's this heavy after-taste of google translator, so it's hard/impossible to appreciate writing style.

The 'game engine' is rather wacky, gives of the feeling that it's there only for the sake of setting.

Story has both ups and downs, but overall - it's fun read.

Japtem has pretty good translations for (from memory) the first 3 volumes. Then the grammar level falls a bit, but it's still readable. However, RoyalRoad translations not only has volume 5+ (Japtem is 6-10+), but also has better translations then the shitty ones on Japtem's site.

Well, i really loved the novel although i hate the main character personality very much for which i am deducting 2 points. The character was good in the beginning where he had to work hard to sustain his family but later he became the shittiest character i have ever known and his greed was to much even when his family condition improved. however novel lost 1 more point when the author introduced a chapter on Royal Road creator planning to take over the world with the help of AI.

I'm torn. I want to give LMS(Legendary Moonlight Sculptor) a 10, while simultaneously I want to give it a 7. This is because the first couple volumes of LMS are easily a 10. The first couple volumes are so well written and addictive, I lost myself in the entire series. I've read from volume 1 to volume 20 with nearly no breaks.

The problems start after the first couple volumes. More padding and filler starts popping up. The pacing slows down because of it. Then more and more contradictory sentences pop up. I understand some of this is due to the translators probably rushing or whatever, though I'm not complaining about the translators as they allowed me to read LMS, so a big thank you to them! Anyway, at one point the padding, slow pacing, contradictions, and numerous loop holes become so bad, I'm not sure it's even the original author writing it. In fact, I seriously think someone else wrote one of the arcs. Anyway, at that point I was thinking of dropping LMS, it was that bad. Luckily, after struggling through the terribly written tautology, padding, and story itself, things got better again. It still wasn't at the level of the first couple volumes but at the very least it had improved a good amount from the low point of the series.

In the beginning, as the author added more elements to the story, it was gradually improving and becoming more complex. I loved every second of it. At some point the author lost control. He constantly added more elements when there was already more than enough, to the point where he couldn't juggle them well and the extra pieces started falling here and there. As a result the story is a jumbled mess at times.

The loopholes and contradictions were one of the worst offenders I had to learn how to overlook. I think that if I had read the volumes spaced out over time then the impact they would have would be much lower. Instead, I read a good amount of the series all at once, so it was easy to spot inconsistencies. When these started appearing it was heartbreaking. Somehow I was able to start ignoring these and push forward. They don't bother me as much now but it feels as if the author is rushing to write as much as possible without checking his previous works and making sure he's got all the facts right. At one point I looked at when this series was created and how many volumes the author put out. I was shocked. It does seem like he wrote as fast as he could and started ignoring quality, and instead opting for quantity. While I would definitely prefer quality over quantity, it's hard to complain when I want more volumes to read.

Some character relationships are well written and others grate on your nerves. One example, which is IMO the most grating is There are other relationships between characters I'm not too fond of but what I wrote just above was IMO the worst of them.

I've got more to complain about but I'm getting lazy and want to end it so I'll just say this. The author is great at writing adventure stories but terrible at writing comedy. Every single time he tried to do some comedy early on, it was a definite miss. When he focuses on the adventure, LMS shines brightest. Unfortunately, when all the padding, inconsistencies, and pacing problems started popping up, the author made another fatal flaw, he started focusing almost solely on comedy instead of the adventure. This made it nearly unbearable to continue reading. Luckily, after the arc I listed earlier, he gets better in all aspects. He still focuses too much on comedy, but at the very least he seemed to realize what he's best at. Sure, his comedic writing did improve a bit. There were a couple parts that made me laugh, but so much of it was a miss that I really wish he would focus on the adventure and leave the humor for when it made sense, instead of forcing it nearly all the time.

Despite my gripes, I love this series. I had a lot to rant about but all in all LMS is still a really addictive and great adventure story. It's creative and there's a lot to read, so if you can look passed its faults, you'll come to love LMS as much as I do.

Is is one of my favourite light novels. The main character isn't the normal high school guy who sits at the window, he's not the paragon of virtue, Weed is a greedy and deceitful person (but still likeable). I don't agree with alot of the choices he makes but they aren't bad ones, he might sacrifice someone here or there but it is a game after all.any player will just re-spawn.
Alot of the comments on this page complain that 'its all luck' or something similar, that maybe so but in any RPG your 'lucky' to decide to take that path or to go in that specific cave or even to talk to certain people, in the end its the main characters decisions that lead him to the encounters. Other arguments are that he is apparently the 'only' one who cares about stats and not levels but that not true, Weed is the only one who trains until he suffers, remember its only a game for everyone else.

I originally read some of the comments on this page and the turned me way off, but that was a mistake. I regret not reading this series month ago when I first saw it.

The hero doesn't care about anything but making money off of people (scamming). He literally does not understand what friendship is, never seeks to make deeper relationships or to be honest and true with anyone - the only goal in his life is to screw everyone and come out a 'winner'.

Obviously, since he is aiming to use people, he treats them nicely enough to get what he wants, but his real persona comes out whenever he deals with his AI henchmen: these he tortures for days until finally they break down and accept him as their master... Nice, huh?

Add to that his sister's incestuous love for him and the creepiness only ever goes higher.

The most pathetic is how overpowered he is, how easy everything is for him, how his ego constantly gets flattered by all the ways in which he always ends up on top, loved by all in spite of him being a complete and total sociopath.
