unlike most people, i have no problem with all of the taboo subjects in the story. what bugs me is the broken taboos merged with a story of angelic wars, combined with some romance. i made it halfway into the 2nd volume when i realized i didnt have the slightest clue what was going on. im sure its a good story if you can follow it, but i just couldnt get into it

I don't know why but for the life of me I just could not get into this manga. I really have no idea why. I read a lot of shoujo, supernatural, romance, etc etc, I really usually find stories involving angels like the ones in AS pretty interesting. But I read the first 8 volumes and just could NOT get interested in it. It took me at least a week to read those first 8 volumes when if I was actually interested I'd have probably read at least that far in the first day. It was a struggle to keep reading and eventually just got completely pushed aside by other manga and finally 3 weeks later I've realized I have no interest in going back to it. I wish I had something specific to say I didn't like about it, but considering it sounds exactly like something I should enjoy, I really can't pin down what about it I couldn't take.

I assume when Yuki Kaori drew this manga she did it with the intention of shocking the audience. Throughout the whole manga every taboo is mentioned, from incest to crossdressing...
I have to admit it did put me off a little at first... and I say only a little, because personally the story drew me in so much I couldn't stop reading, and was sadly disappointed when it ended. The artwork got better as the story went on, so was very nice to look at. The only real problem I had with this manga was sometimes so complicated I had to go back and ead certain parts to catch up to what I was reading then and there.

I'd provide a summary, but looks like it has been done for me, so all I have left to say is... read it!

First of all, art of this manga is very nice, the proportions and lines are a bit off and messy at times but it stays very constant.

Storywise I think this is one of the best, the incest theme doesn't feel sick to me, later on in the series it gives you a more tolerable explanation to the whole relationship, if you bothered to read and appreciate the story as a whole that is. Infact the theme matched the story quite nicely, the fact that no one in the whole world accepted them makes a huge contrast to Kira's relationship with Setsuna. Kira's actions and what he does for Setsuna, etc, are explained later on, which leads to past and backstories, not only with setsuna but also with his angel's half.

Character developments were the best I've ever read in a manga, everyone of the characters had a perfect ending, like it or not.
It didn't feel confusing at all since everything in the manga was explained, hence I think it's pretty perfect. =)
One of my favorite manga of all time.

Sorry, but I found reading it boring. It has a slow development. Also, that brother/sister love it was kind of sick.

fantastic art - first few volumes are okay, but later volumes are just beautiful.
epic setting - earth, heaven, and hell, filled with monsters, angels and demons.
diverse cast - characters that you can really cheer for, sympathize with, cry for, or absolutely hate.
deep plot - complex interesting even after several read-throughs, not predictable, well paced and rarely stagnant (i thought it was intriguing right from the start).
and of course, a solid ending that feels justified without seeming too convenient.

i've heard people complain about the length, but at 20 volumes, i find it long enough to have some meat to it, but not so long as to feel old or repetitive. plot can get a bit complicated at times, so it's not a quick read - you can't really just skim through. a few more mature themes may not appeal to some, but i loved it.

This is the best manga I have ever read. Finaly something different in the manga world.

this manga is really good. I love it. it's so beautiful and it makes you rreally into it. I think it's a great read.

One thing that makes this manga standout is the beautiful art and character designs. That alone helped me to slog through the first 3-4 volumes until the story picked up. After that, I thought both the art and story make this well worth reading. The wealth of characters can make this story a bit confusing at first but they often have distinctive personalities and characteristics so that after a bit, you'll soon sort them out. This wasn't one of my favorites nor one I'd highly recommend but it was entertaining and very enjoyable to look at...

One thing I will say is that I really liked the art. Buuuut... that's about all I really liked about Angel Sanctuary. The characters weren't very memorable for me, and the plot was unnecesarily confusing at times. Also... the incest just wasn't really believable for me. In general, I didn't really care for this manga. If you're looking for something dark and fantastical, I'd go check out something cooler like "Death Note" or "20th Century Boys."
