And it makes me angry when Japanese use their accent to speak languages such as English or German. lol Asuka's accent in Evangelion was SOOOO bad...I wanted to stab myself with plastic forks. And not to mention...how dare Japanese view us in such a manner!!!! We all look the same except for the one black guy!

Well, I guess I'll be stoned for saying this, but I love mixing languages and being an idiotic fangirl about things I like.
Besides that, I already have a problem with my mother language (Brazilian Portuguese): since I read way more in English than in Portuguese, sometimes I forget the Portuguese word and can only remember it in English. Or sometimes in German. It's not like forgetting for an instant or so, it's for hours. Yeah, that's real lame, I know.

Now that I think about it, I'd only do it when I want to call my brother an idiot without him knowing while he's nearby. Otherwise, what I said before.

But usually Chinese, which I actually speak, does a better job.

I think loan words are fine... But only if you understand exactly what they mean before you use them.

But I can't really see Japanese as a contributor to the English language, so that makes it difficult for me to accept using its vocabulary as loan words. English contains quite a few Latin phrases and such words thanks to its Latin roots and European origin. But Japanese is all the way across the globe. (XD I'm probably just being biased, given the fact that the foreign language I'm taking is Latin...) Also, no one knows how to correctly pronounce Latin words, so they don't seem too out of place when inserted into an English sentence. Japanese, on the otherhand, is obviously misplaced.

But, as I said before: it only annoys me when the person using them is not seriously learning/does not know Japanese or inserts such words in conversations with people who don't know Japanese.

Like, I don't randomly say, "Oh, I was walking in the silvam the other day..." It destroys the purpose of communication, which is to clearly deliver your ideas to a person, and inserting random, foreign words doesn't help at all. (Unless it's a learning activity, you're talking to a fellow -insert foreign language- speaker, or if it's some kind of inside joke, I just don't see it having a point...)

Online, I have no problem with it. But If I hear "God, you're such a BAKA!" again in real life, I might just shoot myself. And unless you're Japanese, DON'T call me with -chan. (Again, online is fine, but in real life, it makes me cringe.)

Plus, I'm not sure that non-Japanese can get the honorifics totally right either. If someone ever said "Xeronia-chan/san/whatever" I'd turn around and call him a baka right away.

I use Japanese words to my Japanese friends when I don't want other people to know what we're talking about.

Such as.. Calling someone weird or stupid without them knowing.

And I don't use honorifics with English names. It just sounds weird. *shudders* But.. My friends (who are all Asian and very knowledgable about the Japanese language) have created a "family" among ourselves, and I have become the otou-san. (I have no idea why I'm the father, I'm a girl and I'm the youngest, but maybe because I'm the ruler of the family? xD)

and i personally don't use foreign words in with my english at home ever since I came home from french class saying allons-y! and my mom picked it up from me; she butchers all languages even her own.
I generally don't use japanese words online unless that appears to be the convention, then I feel it is more appropriate to use that word unless they are actually misusing it.

IRL i never say the japanese word because i don't know the pronunciation, and therefore in saying it i might not be correct, and i NEED to be right. (right now my punctuation is bugging me and despite the fact that i know its irrational, i am terrified that someone will call me on it/point out my fallacy)

Using foreign words at home... Generally, I refrain from using any language other than Cantonese at home. It's much easier to communicate that way.

But actually, I do think in languages other than English. For one, I'm a native speaker of Cantonese. And I know Mandarin fluently. And I've taken Spanish for 3 years. And I've had fobby Japanese friends since I went to school. So I've gotten to have the habit of thinking/speaking in other languages.

Also... -Chan is something I never add until I know someone decently online. IRL, I only use honorifics when it's the family thing I mentioned. But, the only one referred in family sense is kaa-san.

that's exactly how i feel. just makes me wanna smack my friends on the back of their heads when they tell me "i was talking to ___-oppa yesterday, and blah blah blah." i dont CARE if you can speak konglish, you still sound like an idiot. typing it out doesnt make me mad though (except for the word oppa. way too annoying). maybe it's the sound that matters.
it's worse when they try to tell me things in korean in front of non-korean speakers, which is like a blaring siren announcing that we're either blocking them out of the conversation with our little secret-talk, or we're talking crap about them.

oh yeah this topic reminded me of my bio class last week. we were just talking in class, cuz there's nothing else to do, then my friend says i look like all the other korean people she knows and is amazed how we all look alike, and randomly goes onto the topic about how her bro's friend's mom has a funny asian accent. then outta nowhere she asks "MAN-DOUGH MACARE?" (like 'macarena' w/o the 'na') and i cough out my drink and die laughing. turns out she was attempting to imitate her bro's friend's mom and say "do you want to eat potstickers?" in korean.

LOL at your story. I think it's funny hearing non-Chinese people trying to speak Chinese. Ah.... My friend is really into Asian languages, so he asked me to teach him how to say "I'm bringing sexy back" in Chinese... It's always funny seeing him say it.

Maybe b/c I'm in a fobified area, it's really normal to hear oppa or whatever. And then, the Wapanese is often spoken too. So... I don't have too much of a reaction against it.

i hate it when people ask me how to say their name in chinese. chinese isn't like japanese or korean with their nice little alphabet. it's rather hard to romanize anything in chinese so f*** off losers.

that being said, i always tell them "bak chi" if they ask me. hey.. they'll never know ;D

Heh...my name translates easily into just about every language in the world, as far as I know - it's one of those universal nature-words.
