Hello all. I've got myself another request that I hope you can help me with.
A note, I've looked in the search/categories but didn't find anything to my liking, but if a similar thread exists, please disregard this one.

I'd like to read or watch an manga/anime where the protagonist or antagonist (They can also be important side characters) joins the opposing side of the existing war/conflict, etc.
Here's some examples I've thought up:
- The main character (or as stated above) is forcefully taken to the opposing side and demanded to fight for opposer.
- The main character/ enemy is taken hostage/prisoner on the opposing side.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Example of this: Lavi in the most recent chapters of D.Gray-man

- The main character/enemy voluntarily joins bad side/good side as a sort of spy, and returns to original faction.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Example: Medusa in Soul Eater

- The main character/enemy voluntarily joins opposing side after their mindset changes.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Example of this: Viral in Gurren Lagann

It would be great if the reasons were not due to romantic reasons, But I'll probably read 'em anyway if it sounds interesting.

I'll read any genre but hentai, yaoi, yuri, BL, GL, or smut.

Thank you all in advance! Feel free to ask for more info if you need it.

This is what I can remember off the top of my head for now

Side characters

Naruto (kind of obvious)
Ares - http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=688
Berserk - maybe?
Alive: Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen - If I remember correctly , http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2600

Main characters

Claymore - http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1037

I don't know about the novels or manga, but in the anime Kyou Kara Maou, an important side character does this.

The title made me think of Superior - the antagonist joins the good side only to be swayed by the hero's moral compass.

It's a very common trope, actually, or should I say tropes? bigrazz

Heel Face Turn (bad guys turn good)

Face Heel Turn (good guys gone bad)

Heel Face Revolving Door (characters who keep switching sides)

Reverse Mole (good guys pretending to be evil)

The Mole (evil spies pretending to be good)

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I'll check out ones I haven't read yet.

And thanks kureha for those tropes. I totally forgot about the tv trope site. xD

Fullmetal Alchemist has several characters who switch sides, or pretend they have.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn! also has quite a few characters who start out as enemies and later become either permanent or at least temporary allies.

Godchild, one character in particular, but others have ambiguous alliances.

Angel Sanctuary

I haven't read the manga, but when I watched the anime of Gundam 00, my head was spinning trying to keep track of who was on which side.

Shin Angyo Onshi
The protagonist's friends join the enemy. His sidekick does later, too.

Vinland Saga
I think the main character joins the ones who killed his father in order to avenge him eventually.
