Ever since I have been reading yaoi, over a year now. There has been a consistent flow of new stories, new chapters coming out. Now I realize that summer is over and the flow will have slowed down a bit. But lately it seems it's dried up! Any thoughts as to why this is? I am speaking about English translated stories. While I find Japanese a little less confusing than I did. It is still beyond me to read it.

Thank you for your time and answers. (If you have any.)

just a dry spell- what with school and college starting back up a lot of scanlators are probably too busy to do much work. it'd be cool if their were more groups to get involved but unfortunately most of us just dont have the skills necessary to help out in a group- especially translators right now.
not to mention most people want nothing to do with yaoi...

its not like theres nothing happening. usually a miminum of like 5 shounen-ai/yaoi chapters are released every day- although most of the stories arent very good roll

we just gotta support the active groups like girls generation or september and hope they come across some good ones- and hope the good projects dropped by groups like bliss get picked back up. and if you have any skills like cleaning or typesetting- it couldnt hurt to offer the groups help and speed up releases...

Da fuq you talkin bout?

Seriously I'm seeing yaoi releases almost everyday. My question, where has all the yuri gone?

Looking at the amount of yaoi vs yuri, its almost ridiculous how much more yaoi series there are compared to yuri. Not that I have a problem with yaoi I just want some more yuri. laugh

People are never happy with the abundance they get...do you realize how hard I must dig for Yuri content? I have to be happy when two female characters are in spitting distance of each other in some random shoujo manga. Anyway, as you cited, summer is over. Summer is when the kids are out of school and you see an influx of your yaoi (and stupid stuff) online. But still, there dont need to be ANY complaints from you about there not being enough yaoi.

yeah- if we should be unhappy about abundance of stories its yuri. relative to the norm, yaoi has dropped a bit in quantity and especially quality-- but yuri is really dry.
the scanlators seem to have a hard time finding good ones for both categories- most of them resorting to grabbing a monthly serialization and doing several one shots rather than a tankoban of a one or two volume series.

but unless we buy something ourselves, scan it, and send it to a willing group to do ALL the work for us we dont really have a right to complain about the quantity. most people forget that the groups have to actually buy the books themselves and run off of donations if not just out of pocket freelance work.

Been reading yaoi since high school and I agree that releases have depleted greatly both in quantity and quality, compared to 5 - 10 years ago. Groups closed, sharing sites became inactive and new ones can't catch up... I don't know if it's due to the lack of resources in Japan or simply because all good/classic series have already been picked up by early scanlators. Still feel lucky that I'm not into yuri though bigrazz

Now I'm moving to seinen biggrin

If you think that why don't you help some group?
It seems hard at the begining but when you get used to it you get faster.
And if you have ps 5 you can use the actions for some things like dividing the images or converting them all into jpg and ps does it without you having to do anything.
And the best thing is that you get to be the first one that sees the chapter and that you know that a looot of people will be happy thanks to you biggrin.
You can be a cleaner, but if that takes a little more of time depending on the raws (I do like 1 page in 25 min) but if you don't have the time you can apply to be a typesetter that takes less time (I do like 1 chapter in 1 or 2 hours depending on the pages). And there are groups that what need the most are typesetters like paradise love or bl-gyaru.
Or of course if you know japanese or chinese you can be a translator.
Not all of them put you deadlines so you can take your time and some even let you pick in what project you want to work.
And I don't think that you need skills, when I started I didn't have them but I learned.
So come on! Join a group, please!

Karuna just hit a spot. The if you don't like it do something. You're so right. However, and this is not an excuse I would be dead weight. I'd be more of a burden than help. Deadly serious none
Some yaoi scanlated is not but on all manga websites. So maybe you should use multiple sources. The flow is still dry, but I hope that helps.

First of all I don't think you would be a burden at all Ginny.
And now all of those that say that they can't help because don't have photoshop don't have any excuse anymore because now you can download photoshop cs2 from the page of adobe so, come on!
If you need help to download or install it or with the interface I can help you, here I leave my gmail for if someone is interested to try it and I'm telling only to try it's allright if finally you don't join some group.
karuna0993@gmail.com
I'd put the links of all here but I'm not sure if I can so...
And if you are worried of someone finding your hobby you can install rohos to hide your files.
If you want to be a typesetter I can give you a rar or a zip with all of the fonts I use and show you how to install them.
And if you want I'll give you samples of images so that you can try your skills on them.
Please, join some group so I can read more yaoi sad.
And those who like yuri (I don't) I'm sure that there are groups that need your help too and if you want I can help you too.

Well I appreciate all the comments, even the yuri rants. bigrazz Some of you were bordering on rude in your comments though. sad Makes me one unhappy internet user I must say. I've always thought that I had no skills to offer at all for scanlators, but seeing the Photoshop post gave me new insight into ways I can help which is appreciated. I don't know where I am looking where I am missing these 5 posts a day though. sad *frantically searches the internet* I will continue looking and broaden my horizons. Thank you again for your answers. <3

The dead weight part does not apply as long as you don't do the "let them spend time teaching you the basics and then run away(without helping out)" thing. As long as you're willing to learn, and spend some time on the scanlations, I'm sure most groups wouldn't mind teaching you the basic so that you can help them out.

Every time I look at the Releases page. I'm using that Genre Filtering feature , the one where you can set certain genres a certain color. I have Yaoi set to green and Yuri set to yellow. I see a lot more green than yellow. About 4-8 green for each day , 1-2 yellow for the whole page (3 days shown on each page). I can understand where the rants for Yuri are coming from. To me it seems like a steady flow of Yaoi releases , but then again I'm still newish to MU and have nothing to compare the release flow of Yaoi mangas.

Now that you mentioned it... It's true, haven't seen too much yaoi releases lately.
I'm not complaining though, since translating and cleaning and stuff must be very time-consuming.

I was just wondering what's with all these rude comments, it's not like the writer said anything to get mad about...
