The best:
Cheese in The Trap
Seigi no Mikata
Nodame Cantabile
Helter Skelter
Ane no Kekkon
I have a blast every time I read them =3 Helter Skelter's less happy though. Quite unhappy in fact.
I do hope that Seigi no Mikata gets completely scanlated 🙁

Sakamichi no Apollon
Winter Woods
Kimi wa Pet
Kuragehime
Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai
Cheese in the Trap
Honey and Clover
I also really like Sekine-kun no Koi but it hasn't updated in a long time. 🙁 (I'm not even 100% sure if it's actually Josei but it definitely feels like one.)
Hachimitsu to Clover gets my vote.
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

07-Ghost
+C: Sword and Cornett
Annarasumanara
Are you Alice?
Diece
Karneval
Makai Ouji - Devils and Realist
Bronze no Tenshi
The Arcana one-shot series (starting with Arcana 01: Butler)
And most of those are sitting on my "unread" list for no reason other than that I am going to re-read them. My favorite series that I originally thought was josei but really isn't would be Emma.

same here
Nodame Cantabile will always be in my heart. Mukyaaaa 🙂
I really like Nodame Cantabile. It is partly a school life manga but not the typical one because it is set in a music academy. The plot and romance are great.
Kakukaku Shikajika , an authobiographical manga , is really nice too. The art is not that good, but the story is great. It made me laugh but there are points which led me burst into tears.

NANA is amazing. So sad it is not going to be updated anymore 😢
Deep Love - Ayu is also one of a kind manga. This will stay forever in my mind. But it is extremly sad manga

I posted here back on Feb 22 2013, but since then I've read a lot more josei for a presentation I did. New favorites:
Nodame Cantabile - one of the most thoroughly satisfying manga I've read.
Kimi wa Pet - as good as its reputation says it is, archetypal josei
Sakamichi no Apollon
7 Seeds - a masterpiece in the making
Paradise Kiss
Chihayafuru - read only a few volumes, love it so far
And I still love the others I listed before:
Oishii Kankei
Midnight Secretary
Hapi Mari (still reading)
Loveless
Gokusen
YOSHIHARA Yuki, every squiggle she's written

7 seeds, mainly because that is the only Josei I know lol.
Ok after reading some previous comments, I found another josei that I know, Nodame, but since I only familiar with the TV series, I don't know how great the manga is. I am sure it's lovely, but since Nodame delve in music, the drama/anime will surely have more impact than the actual manga.
Actually if 7 Seeds is listed in other categories, I will go for it. It was like best manga, it has steady flow, awesome characters, great setting that altogether combined into one well written story. The only one that can match my excitement in 7 Seeds is Basara (I simply love Tamura Yumi's works 😀 ).
