I've been reading too much tragedy that ends well, and I'm sick of that. I want something emotional and realistic, something that feels unfair toward the main character (I like it when the author doesn't mind killing off and/or making their protagonist miserable). Angst is a bit boring but I don't mind if the series is insanely good. I want a deep main character, not some hypocritical goody two shoes or seemingly smarty pants that are ridiculously dumb. I would definitely prefer it if the art's realistic.
Thanks

@Avian3 Doubt might fit the description but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. The story didn't feel 'real' and 'alive' to me, I didn't enjoy it at all. But nevertheless, thanks for replying.
@Sorcha it was an enjoyable read, thank you.

The art is kind of old fashioned but it fits with everything else you asked. Though maybe you've already read it.

Mmm my picks:
Shin Angyo Onshi
Vampire Juujikai
Sundome very sexual explicit
Also, even if I suggested it in the topic "tragic without tragic ending" I think Gunslinger Girl is a must read no matter what. It's indeed very tragic and a LOT unfair towards the main characters despite ending

@Furan lol I really did read it and liked it too!!
@reid1 I've read or at least browsed through all of that lol. Shin Angyo Onshi kinda fits but somehow, it didn't catch me at all. I don't know why, but it's the same for Vampire Juujikai. Sundome was in one way or another very distasteful also, probably because the main guy was so dull and weak. Gunslinger Girl I've read too, I didn't enjoy it that much. But I appreciate your recommendations, really!!
Sorry I'm so unpleasant guys Dx!!! But I'm really desperate!!!!

All manga I can remember reading with a real tragic end (and unfair) for the protagonist was: Deep Love - Reina no Unmei, (Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari too) and Flowers of Evil.
I didn't read too much tragedy manga, so thats are all I know.
