Maybe you will like Skyhigh. It has a really dark atmosphere, because the main character is actually the keeper of the Gate of Grudges and therefore the happenings always tend to be rather regretful. Anyways, the art is okay and the character also has - aside from the powevers - to face the bindings, that such a role gives.

The there is The Bride of the Water God, which can be a little draggy and confusing, but the plot has awesome twists and soem catchy intrigues, which are plotted by various kinds of gods and tend to inflict each other. That aside, the romance is takeable even for a guy - I guess - and the artwork is more or less eye-candy.

If you don't mind webtoons, than Gyon-Woo & Jik-Nyu could also be worth a look. It looks kind of interesting, but I couldn't find the time yet to take a closer look.

Nowhere Boy is a manhwa that isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it does have some similar themes that you might enjoy.

Also, you mentioned how you've had trouble finding this subject in manga/anime, have you tried some other works outside of them? The comic Sandman by Neil Gaiman is exactly what you're describing and it's a beautiful series. It definitely merits reading even if you're not interested in Western comics. Hope you check them out.

Noragami

I second, third, or whatever Noragami and Saint Oniisan.

Noragami is your usual shounen manga, got action comedy romance supernatural, etc. The story itself is great and the character design is even better IMO.

Saint Oniisan: what kind of person in this world would create a manga about Jesus and Budha living together in human world? It's a great slice of life, full of comedy, definitely worth reading.
