But there are a few I enjoyed, because it seemed the characters actually cared for each other. I can't stand the random/ no plot junk where they just start shagging like dogs.
As for why guys tend to like yuri, and girls tend to like yaoi, my theory is this: it takes out the middle-man, so to speak. The draw is the member of the opposite sex, so it's a bigger reaction/ doki-doki thing when there's two of 'em. Also, ( not my thing, so I won't comment on yaoi), but it just seems more, um... beautiful, I guess? Like there's a certain symmetry to it. Right? Whatever. Just my thoughts.
