I'm looking for a really tragic manga to read. I haven't found many.
It's kind of hard to explain, because everywhere i've looked sad means romance.
Of course, romance can be a part of it but i'd like something, that doesn't center around it.

The only thing that I've found was Himizu, which I really liked.

Nijigahara Holograph, Wendy, Tropical Citron were also good.

You see it goes into the psychological and dark, but thats what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

The first manga that comes to mind must be Watashitachi no shiawase na jikan
it's about love and not even that sad nyahaha.

you can try 20th Century Boy , it has its own aspect of sadness, though not so centered.

anyway if you know from the start that a manga would be sad, the impact is not so big compared when you didn't know, so I suggest just try more mangas biggrin

if you're onto anime, I highly suggest clannad and clannad after story. I cried.

sorry if it's not helping

Top Five Saddest mangas in my list.

1) ..7 seeds ..very very depressing and awesome at the same time.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The scene where Mitsuru danced..and eventually froze to death in an empty post-apocalyptic world is one of the most emotionally powerful scene I've ever seen in mangas.

It's the saddest manga ever. No doubt about it.

2) Bokurano..the characters' backstories are so heart wrecking.
And the scene at the end..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
where Jun Ushiro literally commited a mass holocaust in order to save his own world.............
omFG! Even its anime soundtrack made me CRY!

3) Bradherley no Basha..I've read lots of rape and guro hentais but I've never felt emotionally disturbed except when reading this manga.

4) Pluto..
5) Doll: IC in a Doll ...I'm a sucker for robot themed mangas where they're more 'humane' than the humans themselves.
cry

Haou Airen it's mainly a romance but it builds up to one of the saddest ending I've ever seen.

Not Simple. Maan... my face did not look too good after I read it... But it does leave a slightly satisfying taste...

Thanks

There are a couple mangas that I've already read (The End, Ciguatera, Number 5..) and I liked most of them.

And from the other suggestions I'm gonna pic at random and hope it's something I like.
I'm gonna start with Not Simple and will work my way through most of them. (I've got lots of free time at the moment)

Are you looking for sad mangas, like ones that are sad for the characters, like something bad happens and you(the reader) pities them, OR are you looking for mangas that have bad things happen to the characters that make you sad/depressed?

Elfen Lied
First manga that made me cry, especially the end cry

Ikigami
Some chapters are really sad.

Those two are pretty heart wrenching at times. Reading those kinda fucked up my whole day (or week).
Elfen Lied anime was good, but the manga, like usual, is better.
