nonshoujo/josei with a female lead

I'm looking for a manga with female lead/main character, that isn't shoujo or josei. (so either senien or shounen)
my thought behind this was that josei manga usually deals with womens lives etc, and shoujo mangas tend to slather on the cuteness. I've had my fill of cutesy for now and I've read enough josei.
I know this has been done, I'm pretty sure Happy! is a senien manga and that can't be the only one.
it can be any other genre though (fantasy, slice of life, sports, romance, etc)
the longer the series the better.
