every few days i erase my history plus its my computer in my room (not to mention my screen faces away from the door so i can easily close something if people decide to invade my space) so its pretty easy to hide my yuri fetish biggrin

...but im a male that has manga that says "Princess" on the cover and my manga stash is in my brothers room so he probably things im gay or something... sad the horror!

Personally I'm not much of a yaoi fan, however yuri is a bit of a different matter. Only my friends that like manga know i read yuri, my family doesn't know and if i have anything to say about never will. However, I do have other friends that know I read manga and some friends that don't.

If I was asked about it though I won't deny it.

I don't advertise it or anything, but I'm indifferent about anyone finding out.
I'm old enough that hiding things like yaoi just seems silly, since I don't have anyone to hide it from.

I'm a yaoi reader, but pretty indifferent people finding out. Though I usually only tell people who have heard of it before, since explaining it could get weird.

My husband likes to tease me about me reading my "gay porn". This morning I left a yaoi novel sitting on his desk and he later informed me that his desk was feeling sexually harassed, and that while HE didn't have a problem with it, the desk is somewhat homophobic and would prefer it if I kept my yaoi off of it.

i just bought seven days and read it in school (because i bought it in a 2 hours break). Suddenly a friend of mine looked over my shoulder and asked: "are these two guys kissing?" i quickly proclaimed: "no one of them lost a bet and has to crossdress for a day" i would be screwed if they know i read BL.
Also i came right in time to hinder my boyfriend to read Sakura Gari.

i do lock them away now

I am in a high school were people can learn japanese, which is very rare in France. I can tell that about half of the japanese class read yaoi (and yeah, there is only two guys for a little less than 20 students). Most of the people I know who read manga have alrdeady read yaoi anyway biggrin
I am not afraid of being found out, as long as they aren't my family. My sister know I read Silver Diamond thought.
And yeah y clean my history. I don't want my sister to see that I read the Black Sun's fifth chapter. laugh

My 18 and 20 year old sons know I read yaoi. They do love to tease me about it though. They found out a couple years ago when they decided to sneak into my room and borrow some of my manga. They found a copy of Crimson Spell, and thumbed through it. I heard the "OMG" all the way in my office. Served them right for not asking permission to enter my "sanctuary". They got over it. My dad finding out on the other hand would be really bad. Thankfully no one uses my personal laptop other than me, so the stuff there is safe from prying eyes. The worst disaster would be any of my male students at my dojo ever finding out I like yaoi. I don't even want to think about what that would cause..........several of them are homophobes.

Yeah, when it's not with me, it's locked in my office. And anyone wanting to use it would have to know my password. That and the files aren't obvious. My son's have their own laptops, so they never need to use mine. Who knows what I'd find on theirs............

Maybe a yaoi stash of their own? roll eyes

As for me, I've never been caught since I don't hide it.

I think yaoi needs to be hided, and just because it's not immoral doesn't mean you shouldn't be ashamed of it.

if you go around public that you read yaoi, then the chance of you getting a decent boyfriend will drop dramatically. he can know your little secret later.

we all try to put out our "polite face." picture of obama reading porn on the internet will decrease his popularity (if it's not Photoshopped)

Don't worry. I know a guy whose past girlfriends all drew yaoi fanart or wrote yaoi fanfic all the time. eek

If he likes you, he should like the real you, otherwise you should consider whether he's worth your time or really "decent". I don't see the point of trying to be with someone that doesn't accept the real me. I am not a yaoi fan but I never hide anything about myself from people. I wouldn't think it's so wrong if I were obsessed with it. roll eyes

If it's in your house - who's anyone to tell you anything?
It's common courtesy to not be walking around reading porn.
But if it's a shounen-ai, what's wrong with that?

Again, reading porn in public is a whole different matter.
But a person's yaoi stash rarely tends to be outside the house, don't you think?
And what's with the whole boyfriend thing?
What if at the moment I don't want a boyfriend?
Even if I do, it's a hobby of mine and if this boyfriend doesn't like it to
the point of breaking up, he can go screw himself. =)

And what does this show?
That people are prudes.
There're too many conservatives and religious fanatics in America.
A picture of him having sex with his wife will probably be
considered obscene by the same people.
Because we still live in the 50s America where married couples
sleep on seperate beds and storks provide them with children.

Those "polite faces" are a mask, a disguise.
It's not the truth.
I don't intend to imply everyone are or should be in the same opinion as myself,
but geez, prudeness is just another extreme in the scale.
