this whole thread is stereotypical. not all asians have single eyelids. but you should tell her that she is pretty just the way she is. she doesnt even have to undergo surgery. theres fake double eyelids she can snap on

I've heard a story - no idea if it's true or not - of a Korean (this was specifically mentioned in the story as I heard it) couple who had a baby, & as it got older the husband became more & more certain that his wife had cheated on him because the baby looked nothing like either of them. Eventually she 'fessed up to having extensive cosmetic surgery & the baby looked a lot like she did before the surgeries. none

thats probably true...theres a lot of cases when a korean person gets plastic surgery done and have a child that looks nothing like their 'current' image now..
and to the topic question, truthfully I find it kind of pathetic that people are willing to slit their eyelids to try to make their eyes look bigger and if your parent try to force you that's just wrong(basically saying their ashamed of his/her face, is it not? unless its a facial defect). I may sound harsh but seriously live with it, there's people who have it a lot worse than not having double eyelids or 'bigger' eyes. As you can see I'm against plastic surgery. unless it's a facial defect or whatnot and from what I see single eyelids isn't a facial defect.

I was talking to one of my friend the other day, and he told me: "My impression of asian girls are geeky, disgusting ugly nerd with glasses and buck tooth".

That was when I realize I need to demote him to stranger. No one likes racist.

Wow... that is the most outrageous, demeaning, and appalling stereotype I've ever heard. none Glad you're staying away from him/her.

yeah, shocking. This guy has a 4.0 GPA, but weights like 250lbs. I feel like he has no right to talk about other people since he himself is not exactly Hercules. Short, overweight, racist, chauvinistic, elitist, cheap, extremely jealoused of others, that's not eactly A specimen. Reminds me of Cartman. I'm pretty sure all his arrogance comes from the fact that he thinks he's smart....

I'm not even making this up, such a person do exist in the world.

Unfortunately, he's been following me around in school. I gave him hints I don't want to associate with him anymore, but he's just not getting it.

I was talking to my friend today who is asian and it seems like her parents want her to have eyelid surgery and at first I had no clue what that was but after she told me I understood .She wants to have it so she can look pretty and that's why her parents want her to have it but she's scard it might hurt.

Idunno it kinda upsets me that she thinks she'll be pretty once she gets it done. What do you guy think about it? Maybee I'm overreacting.

I don't think its the getting "hurt" part that should be a cause for concern. Id say, its merely the possible outcome of any following repercussions or worse aftermath.

Looks like there are people like this in any country! I don't think it's only Asia ... look at America. Cosmetic surgery is standard there. Actually, I'm not against cosmetic surgery at all. Anyone who wants to have something done on their body and can pay for it AND are of legal age (or have medical reason) should feel free to do so, but in my opinion it's not okay to talk someone into it, especially not one's own child. Everybody (at least every girl) knows the feeling you have when you've just got a new haircut: You look into the mirror over and over again. The haircut looks nice, but ... something's odd. It doesn't feel right yet. That's because the way you look is part of your identity, too (a very important part, by the way). Now imagine how you would feel if something on your face - like your eyelids to which sight you got used to your whole life and which will not grow in after you changed it - just changes suddenly. Even if it objectively looks pretty, you won't look like the same person anymore and you won't feel like the same person anymore. It will cause a crisis on your identity which you will have to overcome, before you will feel good with your "new face".

I'm sorry I talked so much, but I think it's horrible that these parents force or at least persuade their daughter to do such a thing. She should really think it over and talk to her parents seriously before she gives her yes to this.

Yeah I totally agree. It's might even be not good for the body. Sometimes it's dangerous to change a thing so fragile like the human body. I can't imagine that such an operation will make you feel comfortably. Will she even be able to wink properly after that? confused

But I think it's hard to decide and judge on your own if everybody close to you tells you, you should do the surgery. I wish her the best, whatever that might be...

What you are saying seems to me that a lot of people care about their looks. That could be a good thing no matter whether cosmetic procedures are involved. But that's NOT the case at all. Many people should exercise and keep fit, pay attention to their clothes and personal hygiene/teeth before they think of cosmetic surgery or whatever. Sadly most people are not doing those things (just have a look at them when you go outside). In our society, not taking care of one's looks is actually the mainstream idea and people are mostly conservative about cosmetic surgery. I believe that most Asian people are even more conservative. Parents encouraging their kids to have cosmetic surgery are very very rare. Most of them are the opposite.

Its true but admittedly among ethnic people its more an attempt to look like say more european are say white they can be the most beautifal girl ever and its like they have problems with their skin color hair texture nose it's always something not that plastic surgery isn't something that everyone does if they want but it can be annoying to be around a person who looks like most people wish they did complaining about their imperfections that are minimal at best i also think cosmetic surgery is fine to an extent.
