it doesn't mean they have to settle for less in quality

they just need to keep looking until they find something that fits the bill

It doesn't mean there are no mangas with decent quality and still full of cliches, and as i said in other topic...all mangas are full of cliches, except some really weird ones like Kago Shintaro or Matsumoto Jiro works...it's just a matter of perspective...

-Long manga w/ an extremely slow moving plot w/ short and sometimes meaningless chapters that focus on little things that aren't really that important. It's fine if its a episodic comedy manga but when it's supposed to be a story w/ a goal then I get bored. I notice if the series is popular its even more slow and dragged out.

-Ball-less male characters who dont change much or until the end and when they do they become hot-headed.

-Overly brutish rude manner-less female characters who are supposed to be a "strong female lead." A gentle and feminine girl can still be strong. A girl doesn't have to have the strength of superman, anger problems, and the mouth of a sailor to be strong.

-rape=love, blackmailing=love, abuse=love

-Easily forgiving main characters. Even worse if they are willing to forgive a murderer and are determined to save them. It would be a cool twist to read a manga where the traitor kills off the main character and they lay in a pool of their own blood and tears in shock and someone else takes over to get revenge.

the typical japanese way of thinking that
guys think about penetrating sex ALL THE TIME
1boy - 1girl
sex must happen
way of thinking
[you know the guy says something like...how far do you think you can push me... and all she did was stand beside him in a elevator/talk to him/bump into him and he gets all frustrated]

and
the
oh lets rape her...i know she kind of likes me so its ok if i rape her...after all i like her
way of thinking
perfect example is Living Game

-When in a battle manga the main character only trains for like a week and is then able to beat the big shot that has been training himself for like 20 years

-Harems. There is NO WAY so many people are just going to be attracted to the same person, who makes them all tag along when she/he already likes one of them, but he/she is too coward to confess

-When the main character gets raped, but ends up falling for the raper- specially when they didn't know each other.

-When the "good guys" ALWAYS win. If they are never going to lose and every chapter its going to be the same pattern, then what is the point? It's okay to lose and then train to get better!

-When the girl in a shojou is annoyingly pure, innocent or naive. Seriously? where in the world do you find such girls now a days, and why do they fall at first sight? , I mean the type that never steps up and gets bullied by a fan club or something, and every chapter ends up with her being saved by the male lead.

-When leads get to act like arrogant jerk-faces just because they had a little "traumatizing" event- get over yourselves. Most of the times it isn't such a big deal.

-When girls in battle mangas are completely useless when it comes to fighting, but are just there for fan service. I don't mind them being overly sexy, I just hate it when they are completely useless.

-When in gender bender mangas the girl had an actual noble purpose to be hiding her gender, but lets it all go because she just had to fall for her roommate.

-When battle mangas are TOO serious, I like at least a bit of comedy (if not tons) in all the mangas I read.

-When a romance manga its COMPLETELY about sex. I want to read a story not porn. I don't mind a bit of echiness, because real life always has some at some level, but seriously not everyone is a sl*t.

-When comedies always end up using the same kind of joke.

-When historical manga it's too informative. You know, when they end up becoming a textbook rather than a story.

-When sports mangas get TOO AMAZING. Makes it annoying in my opinion, specially if you are acquainted with the sport in question

-When same-age romance seems more like shotacon.

-When the coward has all this power, but never does anything about it, like- he doesn't even use it to protect friends when it just automatically turns on when his life is in danger

...yep, those are all. Most of the time I'll give these type of mangas a chance after I have noticed I don't enjoy reading them anymore. I'll read 10 more chapters out of duty to see whether the mangaka was able to actually do one of this things but pull it of. Like may be the art was so good it made me forget the content, makes things funny or something actually had a secret meaning, or the naive girl actually knows more of the world that she lets on.

What makes me drop/not start a manga?
The cover art is of a guy and girl either hugging each other really tight or the guy is holding the girl by the waist and the chick is half naked or is wearing skimpy clothing. Yeah, I judge a book by it's cover. >_<

...shoujo girls going after the bad boy...

LOL

I'm actually the opposite on that subject. The story is more believable when the girl does go after the bad boy. It's a fact of life: Girls love the bad boy.

How is it a fact of life that girls go after guys who treat them like accessories and look down on them? The female population isn't made up of masochists. Unless you have a different definition of "bad boy".

The "Date the jerk, even though there's a total nice guy that digs you. Yeah, go for the guy that you always fight with and treats you like shit." Thing. God, I hate it SO MUCH. mad.

Predictability - too predictable (like predicting everything that happens as soon as you see the chapter one cover - yes, that has actually happened.) I'll drop it, unless it has pretty art that I can't resist. Unpredictability = WIN (but not to the point where you just go "WTF, WHAT HAPPENED?" or when it makes major plot holes.)

Pacing - if pacing is bad, I would drop it like a bomb.

Plot - Bad plots, goes along with predictability and the date the jerk thing, also when authors recycle the same love plots over and over *cough*Arina Tanemura*cough* <- only still read cause her art is so pretty...she still makes the eyes too big for my taste, though.

- I don't mind subtext, hell I don't mind shounen-ai (as long as it's the non-explicit stuff) but if it takes a turn and goes to just sex/smutty scenes (same with shoujo). NO THANK YOU.

- The transfer student thing (whether it in the middle of the year, the end of the year, whatev. It pisses me off so much. It's SO OBVIOUS. Especially when it turns out to be a bad guy (I'm actually writing a story that makes fun of this cliche.).

- Most cliches (a few listed above).

- Too many fillers (mainly with anime, though).

Pretty much the only things that get under my skin.

The one thing that annoys me most about mangas is long-*** plots that take forever to resolve.

For instance: Naruto and Bleach (Although I like that manga)

-Every character MUST have a Tragic Past to be remotely likable. Shame on you if your dad/mom (heck entire goddamn family) isn't dead. Apparantly, no one can be normal anymore. Time to start cutting myself...

-Pursuing the Douche who treats the heroine like shit even though there's a fairly nice guy right there. This cliche is 50% realistic. It is in fact true that most girls go goo-goo ga-ga over bad boys (who really are quite sensitive -facepalm-). But, most of the time, the girls who date the bad boy don't have a happy ending. I know, shocking. They get pregnant, the douche ditches them and the nice guy that was always there, is not there anymore. Sucks for them...

-No plot/bad plot. Self-explanatory

-Cliches. Ugh, I avoid them like the frickin plague. Although some manga handle cliches quite nicely.

-Girls (mostly shoujo, as always) are too forgiving, with the excuse that what the guy did was too "protect" her, or because he "loved" her. My Ass. You can cheat on me, hit me when I talk to a different guy, isolate me from everyone else, have sex with my frickin mom cause it's ok, I Forgive You. I totally wouldn't kick your sorry Ass. embarrassed

- When every girl pines after the main guy because he is oh so gorgeous. Unless that guy is a movie star, I don't get it. Most of the guys in my school are chubby as fuck or they are trying to copy the Situation. And even the ones who are hot only have like 600 friends on facebook. Not a whole crowd of fucking fangirls. Girls aren't that stupid. We have other ways of stalking... >.>

Yep those are the main ones that completely turn me offf. I didn't include my pet peeves like too huge eyes (that pisses me off to no end) cuz if I did, I would never stop writing this thing.

When I start a new manga, I give it about 5 or 6 chapters. If I find it boring, I drop it.

I can explain it to you...or, how about we meet and I can demonstrate it. I've got five days off coming soon and I haven't decided where to vacation. Or, you can come on down to Vegas when you get the chance. We'll hit the strip, where women from all over the world come to on a daily basis. You can try the whole respect them for minds and not look down on them tactic and I'll try it my way. Lets see who gets laid by the end of the day.

To your credit: A bad boy doesn't equate to a wife beater or a low life. It could be the class clown. The jock that egged the Science Teacher's home. The rebel who cuts class and smokes in the restroom. It's not the Badness of the badboy that women love and crave. It's the sexual confidence and what it possibly entails (Alpha male traits, ability to protect them and provide for them, the ability to lead men and other women) that women are attracted to. Oh sure, as women get older, they start realizing that a 'nice guy' is better for the long run (emotional stability, financial stability, loyalty...etc...) but while they're young, hot, and desirable, most women are out having mind-numbing dirty sex with the 'Bad boys.'
