And also, maybe once one views anime, cartoons that were seen as great are now terrible in comparison, although they shouldn't be compared to each other as they can have completely different audiences.

Thats an interesting point, maybe it has to do with how american producers see cartoons as well. If you look at the majority of american cartoons, the core of the target audience are children and teens. The idea that cartoons are viewed by young children after school or on saturday mornings probably shaped how they are designed. Also american cartoons tend to be very episodic in nature which tends to leave a viewer hanging if you are expecting plot and character development as the series goes on.

Just out of curiousity, have anyone seen that show Kappa Mikey? it just started airing on teletoon and looks so stupid, im just wondering if it's actually any good.

I personally like The Simpsons and The Family Guy, and some cartoon on Adult Swim. biggrin

DVD version usually contains more footage that TV cuts out. Like how Cartoon network cut out the scene where Naruto kisses Sauske by accident.

Yeah, i despise the english version! instead of kage bunshin no jutsu, its CLOOOOOOOONE JUTSUUU!~ I mean...wth?! then theres the annoying voices and also the fact that Dattebayo is translated to "Believe It!" just coz it syncs with the animation -_-
Oh yeah...i wouldn't say english dubs are the worst...u can't say that until you've heard malay and indian dubs...way more annoying IMO

P.S Avatar the last airbender anyone?

Avatar is not an anime, "it is an anime-style American cartoon, just like Teen Titans." (Answerman)

As for Naruto, I'd heard they stopped with the "believe it" stuff after the first few episodes, but I don't really watch it either.

Can we call those animated shows they broadcast on [adult swim] or Commedy Central cartoons?

If so, these definately are the American animated shows I enjoy. Anime doesn't have stuff like Drawn Together. Not to this entertaining extreme.

Plus, we've got Simpsons. And that's better than anything else animated.

Ever.

Well my theory about why the English dubbing usually sucks is quite simple:
Lack of experience.
Look at the French dubbing, it's usually quite neat and much less disgusting (the original voices are ALWAYS better thought). But I explain this by the fact that the French voice actors are way more experienced and taken seriously than the American ones. What do French voice actors do?
They dub ALL the Hollywood movies and all the other stuff...
what do American voice actors do?
They only dub shows that they consider "for kids" (cartoons and animes). And even when some nice movies is made somewhere... they don't dub it... What do they do? they buy the right and re-act it a la Hollywood. (ex: Vanilla Sky, The Ring, The grudge etc...)
So that only make voice actors that don't really care about what they're doing, and don't really have a sense of professionalism as their counterparts from other country's.
And also it's the same reason that makes Japanese voice actors sooo good. It's because it's a highly respected job in japan. And people could kill to get a leading role there. I don't the same thing is going around anywhere else.
Note: all this doesn't apply to Metal gear solid for some reason... The English voices are just AWESOME for that one. And I seriously can't explain it... well we can say it's the exception that proves the rule?

----------
lol almost forgot the subject of the thread for a second... I don't really like cartoons, but some classics are just priceless. Maybe it's just maybe because I watched them a lot when I was kid, but i find Tom & Jerry, Scrooge Mc Duck and some others...to be really awesome (although I didn't watch any of those for like 7 years now).
Now I only watch the Simpson's, family guy and futurama. But of all of those the best IMO is futurama, I seriously enjoy it a lot.
Well, I don't really care if I miss an episode of any of those anyway, but let's say I find all three showing at the same time on different channels I'd watch futurama.

I love Drawn Together. A little explicit and scary, but it's funny. Like Robot Chicken. Remember the video Xandir P. Wifflebottom showed to Captain Hero. The train trying to get into the tunnel..... biggrin

Also, Drawn together does have anime characters. Pikachu from another dimension is in there, called Ling-Ling.

MY God....I'm watching trash......American TV trash....it's worse then watching soap opera or American Idol.....
