lol, you might find out he's gay 10 years into the marriage...or the first time you go to bed and he's putting on a female condom...in himself.
but no, seriously? bishonuen in shoujo are there to be loners and provide angst for desperate teenage girls who thinks lonely borderline gay man who never comes out of the closet is cute.

Ah but there is a difference between a girly looking boy and a somewhat feminine pretty boy aka bishounen. ^__^ It relies heavily on taste, of course, but in my opinion the example would be something like this:
girly looking boy (the brunette)

somewhat feminine pretty boy

Always broke it. XD I need my eye candy.
Anyway whoever said that pretty much all guys in shoujo are pretty is right. You'd never find a guy with looks below average who still gets the girl in shoujo manga.

Wahhh, Illegal Goddess, where the second pic is from? So cute!
Full Metal Panic! Σ
Though the pic is from the anime version titled Full Metal Panic The Second Raid (despite its title, it's the third season of FMP anime). He's a secondary character, though. Also he is
Spoiler (highlight to view)
an example of what we are discussing here. He falls in love with the heroine but all he gets is a kiss which he has pretty much forced on her.
Manga follows the anime and then goes on beyond the anime's ending (the whole thing is based on light novels).

did you read Ai wo Utau Yori Ore ni Oborero? No. Well, there is a guy who looks like a supercute girl and a hot tall athlete who is talented in each possible way.
This manga breaks the clichee you mentioned.

Well the guy in Usotsuki Lily is pretty girly, but his girl makes a good boy, which is also how W-Juliet plays this, so the rule may be that the girly straight guy can get the girl if the girl makes a good bishie.
'cause he's almost always the moronic prince character thrown in for some comic relief? The only manga I know of where this kind of boy gets the girl (or the boy, as he often doesn't have much better luck in yaoi) is Ouran, which itself: a)is a send up of shoujo cliches, b)Tamaki makes an ugly girl, c)Haruhi makes a hot boy (see above).
I'll go with that, and throw in some gender-crit theory about women being attracted to literary heros who need some good ole fixin and boys like this generally not needing any (or being overt narcissists for the comedy).

In so many shoujos, there'll be a hot straight guy (with undoubtedly a million girls lusting after him) who happens to have girlish features and he never get's the girl. Why is that?

As in, this type isn't popular enough with the general shoujo audience to make him the winner, yet he has his share of fangirls, which is why he gets included. Just like megane girls in harems.

Thank you! I may download the anime, as long as it is kinda bishounen.
There are at least three of them, to meet every possible taste XD a tall, dark, and stoic guy, a mysterious pretty boy with silver hair down to his butt, and a cheerful blond who loves flirting and guns.

Otome Youkai Zakuro Zakuro and Haruhi have little in common, but Kei is Tamaki's long lost twin brother, both in appearance and character.
Oops. I went to look it up and the site says it's seinen. I was watching the anime rather than reading the manga and I was 100% sure it was shoujo, it plays out like shoujo.
There is also another type I rarely see in shoujo. Like Kanda (D.Gray-man): long-haired and with fine features, thus somewhat girly looking, but with a bad temper and a harsh judgement, nothing soft and feminine about this jerk, even though he might have a softer heart than he lets on.

Personally I end up crushing on the hot bishie guy, but he never gets the girl!
And once again I did exactly the same. XDD I guess we need to choose the manga without any kind of love triangles. Then there is one hot bishie guy and he gets the girl. Like Vampire Crisis.

I always end up having a thing for the guys with long hair. Kanda for D.Gray man is my favourite. i dont understand why they dont get the girl. i usually end up liking them waaay better.

I don't know why the feminine pretty boy never gets the girl unless the girl's very manly; I like them better too.
I guess the typical shoujo heroines just love feeling dwarfed.

I also wonder why most guys who have feminine looks (actually more like androgynous looks), anyway, why most of them also have very soft personalities - in shoujo exactly! In shounen and seinen, they are often either the antagonist or the antihero (for example, the last three I remember reading about: Griffith from Berserk, Leonard Testarossa from Full Metal Panic, Samon from Zetsuen no Tempest).
