Quote from manto
how can anyone neglect my boy Takehiko Inoue's masterpiece Slam Dunk? easily the best sports, correction... best manga of all time! [smiley face]

I second that, Slam Dunk's one of the best manga of all time! I practically hero worshiped Inoue after finishing the series.

I think it got an award for reader's choice of best manga in Japan or something.

Oh Man!! Doraemon is the shizzle! I used to watch the anime when I was a little little kid on the Spanish channel with my grandmother.

I never understood why they called everyone a triangle-head, square-head, rectangle-head in the theme song.

I enjoyed Miriam. It's a western, and if you can stand the little girl, she grows up in the last couple of volumes, and it's great.
Also, the violinist of Hameln is quite good. Hilariously funny. ^_^

Non-New manga?

Cats Eye, made in the 80's, is pretty funny, even though I can only find the first 11 chapters, or was it the first 8? Somewhere around there.

(head to Mangavolume.com for them. )

(If you want the description, I am too lazy to post the link, so you can type it into the manga search or head over to my reading list.)

Read anything by Osamu Tezuka. Cept' for Astro Boy, which isn't compulsory reading...
