Movies have plots!? eek

I thought they were just scenes of random violence and explosions with the odd nude/semi nude scene thrown together in some vaguely chronological order.

Anyway, voted games since I only play RPGs and not all the manga/animé that I've read/seen seemed to actually have a plot. You can also take part in the plot of a game, which you can't with a book/manga/animé/other.

[quote=smichal]Ok, i`ve been wondering for a while now what most of the people think. In all of those forms of entertainment, where you think you can find the best stories? (Quality, not Quantity)

My opinion, is that games offer the best kind of story

really?
I'm a bit worried then .... what exactly did you read ?
what about Shakespear's War of the Roses double quadralogy ? what about Wutheiring Height ? the Count of Monte Cristo ? Dangerous Liaisons ? Picture of Dorian Gray ?

Anyway story will always be a secundary goal in games.....for the very reason you seem to be so in love with game : interactivy . A game will never be able to give as much place to the story as any other media.... Because you didn't pay just to sit in front of your TV , your DS etc.... to watch beautiful images ... You want to play ! When you lose this balance then your game isn't a game anymore : the epitome of this is MGS2. Too much concerned about cut scene... not very fun to play.... 1mn of game 1 mn of cinematic....1mn of game 1 mn of cinematic....1mn of game 1 mn of cinematic.... F..... ! Kojima I want to play ! mad
It doesn't mean it's unimportant : in some sort of games story can be vital (mystery games , adventure games ,etc...) but whatever his depth it's still 2nd . Otherwise it's not a game. Gameplay will always be the primary focus. It's the very nature of the thing.

So
1st book are first : mainly because it has the longest tradition....

2nd comics in a broad meaning : I mean american comics , franco-belge, manga,etc.... Nevertheless I must point out that some independent american comics are according to me the most lively media considering story while litterature doesn't seem to have much to say lately ....
a book like Understanding Comics shows what impressive tools the comics can use and how little they have been used until now....
No other medias can reach the depth that a comic COULD have .
Extended symbolism , non-linear reading , pagination ,.... Comics is the ultimate tool of the storyteller....Some works like From Hell ,Jimmy Corrigan(I didn't like it much but it's still impressive) l'Autre fin du monde even if extremely impressive have only scratched what comic is able to do . So 2nd but if heir's of Alan Moore , Gailman ,etc... live up to the challenge then eventually it will be 1st .

3d movie: cinema is about atmosphere ,mood . When you're going forward at 27 images second there is no time to ponder , no time to linger ...Alan Moore pointed this feature out when he chastised the nonsense about Watchmen being a "cinematic" comic .You can't stop , you can't go back , you can't make parallel . You are losing something There is only one way in cinema : forward. This is a natural limit .
I love movies so I'm not mocking them or underestimating them. But their primary goal is elsewhere : it's about immediate feelings . Sound, Move , Life .
4th games.

I don't think there is something like a superior art . However considering the battleground some of them are obviously better than others . It depends on what you're aiming at .Once you know what you what you want to tell then you can choose the art whose features fit the best with your goal . When it comes to story games just can't win . It's about the very essence of arts. But art isn't just about story there are lot of arts that aren't about story. Music , Games ,Architecture,etc... they can (some concept album for music , storylined game ,totalitarian architecture) but it's not their primary goal.

Well as i said earlier i haven`t read that many books, unfortunately none of the above you mentioned. Some of what i`ve read are, the most famous titles by julious Vern, Perfume, Romeo and Juliet, Robin hood, Green mile, Lord of the rings... and others. I won`t get into details about my thoughts right now and neither oppose yours... I just wanted to listen what people think, i don`t have any plans to start arguments with anyone (plus i suck at them) laugh

Hmm... well the question is where can you find the best story/plot/scenario so my answer is umm... all 4 equally. Sounds like we're just talking about the idea here. Games/movies/books/manga are just mediums to get the story across. Level of detail and the captivation of the reader/watcher/player might help towards it, but when someone says 'best scenario' it's the idea itself. Well crafted writing or good graphics help to portray a story, but don't make it.

Well umm... there's a counter argument for you. xD

(expecting this to be ripped to shreds)

Have you watched any non-mainstream movies, then? I've rarely seen any good indie movie with random violence and explosions. Try to broaden your horizons.
