I was just wondering what you guys think of, or sympathize most with when you read a manga. Generally, I always look at the bad guys end of his/her story first (generally who do you support?). Good people are generally the most boring, I tend to follow the bad guys mostly.
Good People
I'm good because some killed my mom/dad/lover/close friend so I am justice
I'm good because a good guy saved me so I want to be just like him/her
I'm good for the sake of it
I'm good for to attract a girl/boy/parents
blah blah..
Neutral People
No I hate violence
No I don't want to experience that again
No I will not participate in your own problems
No I will ignore and it will go away
Evil People
I'm evil for the pure enjoyment of your pain
I'm evil cause I feel like conquering your planet
I'm evil cause I want your gf/bf/mom/dad close friend
I'm evil cause I want to make your civilization my slaves
Yes, evil sounds so much cooler and awesome.
(btw if someone already made topic delete)

Evil people seem to have the most f**ked up backstories. Lucy from Elfen Lied, Mitsuko from Battle Royale, and Sasuke from Naruto are great examples.

i dont see your example for neutral as the way i see it
i see it as, you just dont take sides, and you do what you see fit for what you see fit to work for.
but i still voted for neutral, couse i hate people that get to into one side or another.
edit-
also, couse i hate fighting, and i prefer to stand on the sidelines and watch, or manuplate from there.

Hmmm... how about a mix of both good and neutral? does that work?
I can't stand fighting... the sight of blood kinda disturbs me. But the fact of the matter is that if I saw someone in trouble who needs my help, i would of course give it, not worrying about my human limits. I would never get myself dragged into a fight for some kind of dumb reason, but i would not mind fighting if it were for a noble cause i guess...
I've always considered myself a pacifist, with a slice of justice, and a bit of kindness. and that is the only way i think i could live with myself in all truthfulness, b/c i would die inside if someone got hurt because i wouldn't help them. It's painful knowing that people are dying everyday all over the world, and the only way i can deal with it is usually by trying my best to prevent it where i can.
Im not a hero or anything, its not like ive ever actually saved anyones life, but i know for a fact that if both of our lives hung in the balance and only 1 could come out, i would jump to the bottom b4 you have a chance to change my mind.
I guess that is the kind of character i relate with best... re-reading the post, i guess it isnt really neutral at all... b/c not wanting to fight is considered good too... so i guess i like the good guys! There is next to no way i could ever like someone who would kill someone for greedy cause...
Love & Peace, brother!

Basically, it's not even a question
I hate all those pure-hearted maidens and brave heroes. They are usually so dumb...extremely self-centered and blind to the rest of the world. They once believed in sth ( like "justice", a non-existing thing ), and they kept turning the world upside down just cause they thought they were RIGHT (you have to have a really high opinion of yourself to think you have the absolute right, maybe they even believe in angels flying over their heads and taking the bullets for them).
Not to mention they are usually driven by hate or need for revenge, but they are never gonna admit that.
And they're all hypocrits. Someone once said, that it's easier to fight in the name of some values, than live according to them.
So very true.
Evil characters, on the other hand, are more authentic and loyal to themselves. You have to respect that. I am not trying to say I like or justify the murderers and sociopats, but I must admit, that I'm more likely to get interested in their way of thinking than in the "let's go save the world, oh pure one" minds.

Evil characters in some cases. However for me to support them the entire manga has to be more or less crazy. For instance, Alucard and later even Seras are sure as hell evil characters in Hellsing. I also like that nazi general guy cause he's funny
However in normal series i guess i'd stick to the good / neutral, it's just the way such manga is, they tend to make the right ones likeable.
I also agree with that quite a lot of time evil characters has some honestly fucked up past or brain.

Good vs Evil... bleh... such a Manichean concept. I hate it. There is no good and no evil. Who are we to say what is good and what is evil?! All we could afford to judge is it goes against our principles and morals or not. But it's pretty self centered to think your morals are absolute and are the one true good in this world.
You are free to accept or not that people live with different standards. But from there to say that they are evil... that's stuff that we should leave to religious fanatics.
I'm not saying murders don't deserve to be punished, they are breaking the law, they know they are... it's the way society works. But you can't say that they are pure evil either. They had a succession of reasons that made them go down that path.
OK I'm stopping my rambling on good and evil here... because I'm getting nowhere.
On the subject of this thread, the characters I like the most are the human ones. The ones that aren't portrayed as saints, nor demons. The ones that have their own values and try hard to stick to them.

Well, I absolutely hate ANY character that is so clean-cut. "Evil" and "good" are purely subjective
Personally, I just like well-rounded characters: "Good" or "evil," they seem like real people with real problems and their current position actually has a reason instead of just being "HE'S A MONSTER!1!!"
._. I guess I completely agree with Stealth, then... *awkward waste of space*
I can't really state whether or not I like "good" or "evil" characters (reason stated above), but I do normally like the crazies/strange ones. I guess they just amuse me...

I hate all the intense good people in manga, way to cliche, and the evil people are far to messed up in the head for my tastes. I love a character who isn't necessarily predictable, and isn't inherintly good or evil. Course when all is said and done, I'm really just interested in the strongest character I guess, I mean who cares what if your good or evil in the long run, what people will remember is you INSANE power.
