I'm the first option.
Cry at the happy moments, the funny ones, bawl at the sad ones. I am an utter crybaby. I try to avoid tragic stories.

How can someone like me be such a Yuki Kaori fan? laugh

You're missing an option - tears of joy. I get very emotional with stories I read, both positive, and negative emotions.

I cried happy tears at the end of Ranma 1/2, but very much tragic tears at the end of Jinzou Shoujo, although there were some happy tears mixed in with Jinzou.

That's just to name manga... the movie Grave of the Fireflies ought to be able to make just about anyone cry like a baby the ending is so tragic.

And then there are novels... I don't really read eastern novels, but a good example of an emotionally charged western series: Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott. The entire 7 book series is a giant emotional roller-coaster.

So yeah... I can't really answer the poll with the options given, I'd be lying if I said only when something tragic happens, but I'd be lying to say all the time. Only when something highly emotionally charged happens, do I cry, whether it's from something extremely tragic, or something extremely wonderful.

it really depends on how deep i get into the series.
For the most part i tend not to but sometimes some of the stories tug at my heart strings.

I think the first time a actually cried because of a manga was Godchild.

sometimes a scene is really tragic and dramatic, and i can completely feel for the situation, but no, I have never actually shed tears over a story. I've gotten close though.
there needs to be an almost option.

I'm still coming to grips with the fact that I can cry at ... anything. The last couple of years for me have been a lot of serious self-discovery, and actually, manga has been a big part of that. Checking that "All the Time" option was a little difficult for me, but this poll made me realize I really do cry a lot with serious stories, or serious moments in a story.

Haven't I seen this at least 50 times here?

Yes, yes you have. And now it's an official poll! Yay!

I cry all the time. It's ridiculous.
I'm just the kind of person to understand the feelings of the characters so when something happens, I am able to react like the characters do.
And then sometimes the way the manga is written and just the word choice gets to to cry.
I'm a crybaby.

One of the all time favorites, is Hana Yori Dango, which I've read about 8 times. And the scene in the rain never fails to jerk an emotional tear or two from me. cry

I never cry while reading manga, but do sometimes while watching anime or movies though.

Been done so many times. none

Boys Next Door made me weep buckets...
Yeah, I have those moments when I cry like a child who's watched the end of the Little Mermaid>__>
Some of Yumeka Sumomo's tragic stories made me sob and feel as though my heart was stabbed...=/

Seriously, tragic endings always make shed tears, even if I didn't enjoy the manga itself (or haven't read it for that matter)...
Had two cases of flipped sobbing when I just skipped to the ending.

Hell, reading Nakamura Asumiko's stories bring me to the verge of tears just out of excitement, even if nothing sad/really happy happens.

none

I voted "all the time". It's not really all the time, but I thought it was the best option because I don't just cry at sad, tragic things, I also cry when something's touching (Lovely Complex), or out of happy relief (so many times when favourite characters are okay even when you think they're goners), or because of angry frustration (Battle Royale), or even laughed until I cried (Yanki-kun to Megane-chan).

But this is also really only during the last couple years of reading manga. Before I would read something truly tragic and just shrug. Getting in touch with my emotional side now, I guess.

Only when I really like the series and something tragic occurs.
I believe I have only cried 3 times, and it wasn't actual "crying" but close enough to be considered as such.
