I third Forever Honey. And on the topic of oneshots:

Hotel definitely fits.

Present, by the same mangaka, a slight bit less so, but still fits overall.

Normal City
Bokurano (make sure you have the epilogue)
Battle Royale
Hotel

I'll second Ai-Ren - yes, it is ecchi, but it's not the obnoxious sort of ecchi.

Someone mentioned Narutaru, and while technically it might fit I really doubt you'd feel that it does.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. I felt so heart broken after I finished it, those character have always been near and dear to my heart since I read CCS years ago... it was a triple whammy with xxxHolic being in the mix, too.

Definitely Vampire Juujikai. This manga's a tragedy about Akabara Strauss. It's one of my favorite mangas.

Zero - also is a hopeful tragedy. But the main protagonist has some personality changes sometimes......

Zettai Kareshi - another tragedy that has a "happy" ending. Watase-sensei writes a lot of those, like Fushigi Yuugi, Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden (seems like its heading that way), and Ayashi no Ceres (also called Ceres: Celestial Legend).

Ryou - also looks like it's heading in that direction. However, there has not been many updates so far...It's a manga about Benkei and Ushiwakamura, but Ushiwakamura is a girl. Basic historical shoujo.

Camelot Garden is a tragedy, though I'm not too sure about it ending "hopefully". It's also a oneshot. However, it is one my most favorite oneshots ever.Try it.

Crimson-Shell - another manga that is a tragedy that ends on a sort of hopeful note.

Quote from Tatania

Plot- The plot centers around an organization called Crimson-Shell and their struggles to capture the Black Roses, of course it doesn’t stay just that simple as betrayal and secrets are entered into the plot, then it because more of a mystery. The plot is quite well rounded, but being so short not everything is as fleshed out as it could be, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t explained. The ending is a bit open but its still a good ending. All in the entire plot was very enjoyable and unique. It is quite short though.

Hanatsukihime may not be a tragedy in the truest sense, but it does have some tragic elements. Well, it was pretty tragic for the prince in the end anyways 😛 Try it out.

Olimpos is not categorized as a tragedy per se, but it does have tragic elements. The character imprisoned within the space is brought to his downfall because of his beauty and because he was "blessed by the gods". If that doesn't fit the definition of tragedy, then I don't know what does. But it does end on an positive indifferent, if not happy, note.

Replay is a shoujo manhwa that is tragic, but is not labeled as tragedy. There are some plot holes, but overall it's a nice read.

Romeo x Juliet. The title's a dead giveaway. Yes it's tragic, and I think it ends on a happy note. However, if you must read this one, try the anime. The anime is many times better than the manga.

Tista is a manga that is also not labeled as tragedy, but is tragic-like (in my opinion, anyways). Tista is a psychological manga that has a lot of raw spirit and emotion. In the end, she

gets locked up in jail because she gave herself away. I liked it, and it is one of my most favorite mangas. It's in my top ten.

Hope this helped.

Vitamin (SUENOBU Keiko)

Seriously. It's tragic but ends in a good way. (Random thought: high school English would consider this a "comedy" since the conflict is resolved, right?) Anyways, totally fits your description. 3 chapters of being inside the protagonist's mind. It's a pretty rough subject too - bullying.

the end of Fushigi Yuugi GEnbu Kaiden was already mentioned in Fushigi Yuugi

Takiko will summon the Genbu and go back to her own world, but her body can´t endure it and her father kills her before she dies from the Genbu and then he kills himself. The book goes to the doctor whose daughter becomes the next priestress and survives but will always be apart from her love and never marries (she adopts a son)

YEESSSSSSSS. Thank you all! I especially like those of you that stayed clear of ecchi recommendations, because I don't read ecchi. 🙂

That said, I am okay with mature content! Just not trashy/puerile/ecchi-esque. 😀

Forever Honey is precioussssss. <3

Lol Umineko? 🤣 It's a game, but has the tragedy+romance element (and a billion other genres as well.)

@ajcoolim107, THAT SOUNDS SO GOOD. I'M BUYING IT RIGHT NOW.

@icering10, Perfect World! Gah, it's gorgeous! Reminds me of a yaoi story about a similar 'disease' (sprouting flowers) but I can't recall the title... Anyone have any idea?
