I was 11 or 12 when I read "Death on the Nile" by Agatha Christie which I believe it's one of her best crime stories; after all she is the queen of crime, isn't she?
Since then I couldn't stop reading all sorts of books!!

Well, my mom always bought me books, since before I was able to read. Fairy tales and childrens books made me start reading since before my classmates in pre-school. But the first 'long book' I read was 1001 nights.

I've always loved reading. When I was very little (before I could read) I would memorize entire books from listening to my mom read them to me. It became a game and she would change some words on the page and I would catch her. I was insatiable, 3 books a night before I could fall asleep!!
I can still remember some of my favorites: Hans Christian Anderson's books, Jane Yolen's Child of Faerie Child of Earth and Girl in the Golden Bower, Carousel by Liz Rosenberg, Nora's Stars by Satomi Ichikawa... I still have the books today.
Anyone else remember their favorite childhood books?

When I was little I liked picture books and mystery novels. Dr. Seuss and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was my starter books, but I've read so many that I can't even remember back that far very clearly. In kindergarten each kid had a 100 slot book list but we were only required to read 10 books each month. I always went over that number. I remember reading Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe from the school library and going to Scholastic book fairs. The Hardy Boys and Babysitter Club made a brief appearance in my reading lists.
When I read books I get images of characters and scenes if the author is good at describing them. The words stick with me more then the pictures in the end which is kinda why I like picture books since if I'm already given a picture I can use that when I'm reading in my imagination.

School and college killed any interest that I once had in it. Wasn't until I started reading self-improvement material (And other random works that interested me) that I started gaining another interest in it, and, after reading A Short History of the World (As in I just read it, I didn't try to (over)analyze it or look for any "symbolism", just read the words on the page) then I started enjoying it again.

I’ve always loved reading, so I guess it would be some children’s book or another? My favourite author by far is Nabokov though, no one can rival his writing.

What an excellent thread. I remember I liked the animal adventures of Mandy written by Lucy Daniels. 🙂

I wish I could remember the first books I read, but I think I've loved reading ever since I could. Books I definitely remember reading when I was around third grade or so were The Borrowers series by Mary Norton, Nancy Drew, and books by Andrew Clements.

Good question. I had Russian books on Greek myths as a young kid. Probably those?
It´s always hard to point to a direct starting point with such a broad and mainstream medium. I can tell you what my first games and comics were (that I loved) but good luck doing that with films, TV and books.
