I got to admit

it was interesting gag manga, but it drags too long, don't you think?

I guess it can't be helped since it is a shounen series (which means it will continue forever as long as someone reads it)

If you haven't read this already and you enjoy high school manga, you shouldn't hesitate. The beginning starts off a bit slowly but as you meet the full cast, the story gets good quickly.

The theme of the story seems to be outsiders learning what it means to have friends, but there's nothing forced, nothing cheesy. The humor is from the situations, and the theme comes from the situations. There is nothing forced, and nothing preachy. The author isn't trying to talk about the benefits of friendship, but it's a theme that stays behind the laughter and the drama throughout the book.

Great Comedy

The story starts off with the main guy sitting on a toilet and this random girl showing up above the toilet stall.. in the men's bathroom. Priceless.

The comedy is fabulous without being total gag; it's well-done and fits the story perfectly. The development of the main character is clearly seen throughout the whole story; it is really cool to see him change over time. The main girl goes through some change too, but not quite as much. In fact, all the characters develop at least a little in the story.

I'm a big fan of Hiro Mashima, mangaka of Fairy Tail & Rave Master, and this mangaka worked with him, so it's a personal big plus. ^^

If you like school life, lots of comedy, good art, a little bit of delinquent action, and just a fun read to pass time, I highly recommend Yanki-kun to Megane-chan.

edit: what I wrote above is still true; however, that ending... was really disappointing. Part of it wrapped up nicely but the other half just kinda.. sunk. It doesn't make much sense why the mangaka went this direction. :/ Still a well-developed character with the main guy though.

a MUST read with slow releases

the story really reminds me of Beelzebub. without demons. you have delinquents fighting and groups of superior fighters. the story is more realistic and down to earth though. it focuses on the characters' high school lives and how they move to college. once again, i have found another manga with great comedy.

the art is relatively better than most shounen. the first volumes had detailed scenes and pictures. though, as volumes passed, the art became more rushed, somehow looking quite similar to Fairy Tail's. even as the art evolved, good proportion and style was observed.

the comedy in this manga is really great! its not your usual type of comedy. the two main characters really make a hilarious duo. the supporting characters add the humor by making witty side comments and all.

well, i dont have much say in the plot. its not that serious or deep. it fits the theme of the manga anyway. even though the plot is quite simple as of the moment, character development is observed and portrayed well.

unfortunately, the manga has slooow updates. the manga is already completed though. you can also try reading Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo. its another work of the same author.

I decided to give this a try after reading Angel Densetsu and oh my goodness, I spendtthis whole week reading through this manga. It is so addicting and I really love each and every character. I love the plot, the concept, and the character's back story. I am hoping there will be more background info on Hana Adachi, because I really love her character and back story. I cannot wait for the rest of the series to be scanlated <3

At first, the story goes really promising.. I love the gags between Shinagawa, Adachi & Chiba.. But when it comes to a new character, Himeji..(or whatever the name is) I didn't find it funny at all & simply lose interest.. & others? Meh~ (Too much sub character moments will definitely ruin a story..)

This certainly becoming more like One Piece met Rave Master kind of story, although OP's sub characters are good & this one cannot grab my interest at all.. Sigh~ simply wasting my memory space & all my hardwork in downloading 'em..

What can I say? I love comedy. It's good at making me laugh, the heroine is hilarious, the main character is also pretty funny and interesting himself. In-between serious mangas I like reading something feel good with some plot sprinkled in. You should read if you want a good laugh with a few life messages here and there. It may not end up being be your cup of tea, but dare I say, this manga is great. Although nothing alike, this manga gives me a "gintama" type feeling, if you've read that.

Great Appealing Art sadly lacking in plot purpose

This series has solid appealing art. If the Sket Dan like gags make you laugh, then this series will do so too.

So imagine a yankee gag version of Haruhi Suzumiya and minus the sci fi aka a wacky female lead and a misguided guy.

However, if you want character or plot development as the series goes, then you may wish to lower expectations because as other have commented the plot is very random and doesn't really go anywhere.

So definitely this Manga is getting 10 for me.

The fish! I've been lolling all through the whole manga that I thought i'm building up abs. Lmao. But seriously, this is just Hilarious.

The art is ohh-so-cool. and HILARIOUS. I just can't get enough of Shinagawa's and Izumi's Epic Bring-it-on Face. Bwahahaha XD

The story is your ohh-so-mediocre alien school life manga.I mean really, expect all those surreal, out-of-this world happenings.

Actually, I've read this just after I finished Gokusen. and they're totally different. I mean, in Gokusen, there's also the bad guys and the Megane-chan that turns out to be something more. It's like YKMC! But I just feel different atmosphere while reading both.

Anyway, give this manga a try! totally addictive! I can't get enough of this!! >.<

This is excellent shounen- school life comedy. If that's what you're looking for you really can't go wrong with this. Characters are great, plot is awesome. There was a time when the story was dragging on a bit (mid Ch50-s I believe), but if you read on it'll quickly become awesome again.
Personally I find the only drawback that there could be more consistent romance and actual plot development, but to keep a manga running for a long time there's a lot of slice-of-life/filler. Overall it was very enjoyable though. Recommended!!

Too bad about the open ending
