An amazing transformation...

... of something that looked like a gag manga, into an absurdly dark and tense series. Without spoiling anything, consider the initial lightheartedness somewhat forced - it's essentially a coping mechanism. To say that not everything is going well would be an understatement.

The manga isn't as well-drawn as, say, Berserk, nor is the situation as terrible as in Attack on Titan (though it's still pretty terrible), but Helck's strengths are that it manages to switch genres on the fly. Neither the tension nor the comedy ever disappear.

Ultimately, I enjoyed the whole run, though I felt like the final arc dragged on for a while, and there was ultimately less despair than I'd expected. I recommend this manga nevertheless.

Every now and then, a series pops up and gets tons of chapters translated at once. Perhaps translators missed it because it looked weird or they translated one chapter, forgot it and picked it back up.

In this case, I imagine it is the former. Helck is like a freakish fantasy variation of One Punch Man. The art is creative. The characters are goofy. Oddly enough, there is a dark overtone as the series develops. I haven't seen a fantasy series like this in over a decade. Altogether, Helck is awesome.

I Shed My Tears

Among many shounen (this is shounen, right?) manga out there, this is one of the very few who can makes my heart cried. It wouldn't happen if the way of the story-telling isn't superb, because a story about tragic hero is common. That being said... I also want to admit my mistake for stereotyping the series due to its synopsis (a hero which is cooperating with demon). I thought it will be another cliche n boring series, yet it turned out the opposite... epic and heart-wrenching.

In brief, it's an amazing and deep series, despite of being a shounen... excellent!

look at those muscle, and body
and in the end every chapter (mostly) have a troll in there

i laugh hard for this

but this not pure comedy
the story (hopefully) is deep, and the villain is really a villain (5/2016)
=========================================================
Read till the end and......

okay, that's a lot of train of feels
still it have good ending
try it, i enjoy it
even the coupling here is... somehow... well
it's what it must to be together and HELCK IS DESERVE HER, but the feel build between two of main character (H and V) (you know if you read it) along the journey, is like pure friendship between boys in what author meant,, which really throwing my expectation....

kind of hard to decide the score because it's mix between comedy, tragedy and drama
which not really go well, but it's still have good conclusion and sweet feeling

It starts with a lot of gag humor, then becomes more serious

Long story short: this is amazing but you wouldn't know it from the first few chapters.

This starts with a lot of gag humor about how OP the hero is, but it quickly becomes more serious while still retaining its humor. I enjoy works with some gag humor and I also enjoy ones that are serious, so I have really enjoyed this so far; however, if you can't stand gags then you probably won't make it to the serious parts. I would definitely recommend taking a look at it, although it's unfortunate that you'd need to invest some time into reading this to really get the full picture.

Additionally, the character development in this also takes some time to get rolling, in the early chapters the characters seem pretty 2-dimensional, but as it goes on, they really get fleshed out pretty well. Also, as 'drunkguy' pointed out, this reminded me of Onepunch-Man (ONE) here and there, more-so during the earlier chapters than later on.

P.S. You da man Rello!

What a surprising find. From the first few chapters with the gag and relatively subpar art, who would have thought it could turn into such an epic. I certainly did not expect it to evolve in this way. Without spoiling the plotline, I just want to say that the story is rich, the emotions are deep and the characters definitely grow on you (the art actually gets much better, and really fits the story). One of the better shounen fantasy I have read in the last 5 years, if not the best!

I thought it would be boring. It's not. The art is good. It's a story that starts as a half gag of sorts and levels up to an epic world war. You know who the bad guys are, but there are all these twists and turns of the plot, so it keeps you interested in the story. It's a good read with balanced romance, action and comedy.

Start with ordinary gag story but the author give every hints literally in every chapters that this won't be forever about comedy but it also have plot, the plot that will made us cry, angry and laugh at the same time.

The well placed story really what made Helck close to perfect, the pace wasn't rushed but it also not slow, just right. The comedy toned down later but it still have it and can crack laugh sometimes while the story keep the reader sit tight on their seat, waiting what will happen next.

Overall helck is enjoyable, it have laugh and plot, two best combination to keep the story going well. I really recomend it.

And please someone take that description from mangahelpers, two fatal mistakes in that description that may confuse new readers.
*edit, oh I can edit that description, sorry my first time. Removing the wrong description from mangahelpers.

Yes, at first glance, this is a gag manga. Especially with such a harmless looking main character.
But somehow the Hero always occasionally give hints that he have secrets, that not everything is what it looks like. It will draw you more and more until you will get a deep story and many awesome moments.

Overall, very recommended.

Definition of dont judge a book by its cover. Well maybe not

So far so freaking good. This series is so great right now and its really refreshing with its humor and story. Its Kinda similar to One Punch man in a way (what before you torch me hear me out). Not in terms of art and story but more in terms of set up. It Satires the Whole hero and Demon king clique in similar ways of One Punch Man with the whole Hero and Villian Satires. It has many hilarious moments they play with how air headed some characters are and also plays on the whole "Over powered hero" thing as well with the stuff the lead does. And with some of the characters designs like who mangas and animes tent to have a powerful looking villain or hero have a really young and innocent appearance (like one character in this). Along with other great satire moments.
I put this title for my review cause there are two things that may turn a non open minded reader off this at first and thats the Art and Male lead. Dont get me wrong the art isnt bad and its actually pretty good but its just unique and some people dont like different unique styles but it still deserves a chance. Id compare the uniqueness of the art the "Soul eater" manga series but just less crazy and box-y; maybe a little better though.
The second thing is the MC. Hes a different one to say the least and i can see people not giving this a chance cause he isnt the clique looking Male character in most series. There are SOOO many Main characters who dont look as power as they truly are but this one actually does. Hes really bulky and has a wide face with smaller face features. Kinda like Andre in Prison school manga but less ridiculous looking lol. His whole look is kinda misleading in a way cause in these fantasy ones you kinda always expect a younger more teenage looking lead whose either average looking or super gallant looking like i said but hes more of the Conan the barbarian looking lol. It does work good for the story and makes a lot of moments more funny. His design may be unusual but just like Saitama in Onepunchman it works for the series and hes still a bad ass with it. So yea i recommend people give this a chance cause its good and dont take it too seriously.
