'Doubt!!' revolves around 15-year-old, Ai Maekawa, and her quest to become beautiful. After an embarrassing experience in middle school, she severs ties with her old life, and gets accepted into a high school where know one knows of her or her past. During the break between middle and high school she focuses on becoming beautiful for her high school debut. When she arrives, she gets exactly what she wished for.
I don’t quite understand why so many people are upset with this manga. Sure, the whole premise of it seems a bit superficial, but I don’t believe ‘Doubt!!” is really meant to be taken too seriously. It's so much fun to read! I love the characters and there are moments where it’s really cute/hilarious. I'm definitely enjoying it so far.

It has all the wrong stuff:-
- Skin deep beauty priority/superficiality/"looks are everything" principle
- Girls fighting over a guy, Sigh! wen will this genre disappear?
- Hide ur past to keep up an appearance
- plot to bag a guy
- women are bitches that have nothing better to do than to fight other women over one selfish/arrogant high schooler(Please GAWD! r all shoujo mangakas misogynists? very low esteem of female characters)
But the author has a sense of humour which is why this is tolerable...

Everything was pretty good, actually, the heroine was strong, but funny and I didn't hate her at all, the art was good, and the whole makeover thing was interesting to me. The humor was a nice touch. Seriously though, the heroine was refreshing and I didn't dislike anything about her except for the fact that she liked a f*cking ASSHOLE! I can't begin to express my discontentment with him! I ended up trembling with anger near the end where he chose another girl over the heroine TWICE. He could have at least made it up somehow but.... Ugh seriously though fuck him. Good manga otherwise..

Don't let the negative comments put you down. Read it for yourself. I actually ended up fairly liking this manga.
As many others have mentioned, yes, it's filled with shoujo clichés, and the story is pretty much predictable. Sô can be a jerk (but his jerkiness can often be justified because of various reasons, including being rich ( = missing realistic view of the world) and a troubled childhood which can pretty much f*ck up every child), but I've encountered much worse male characters in other shoujo mangas.
What really kept me going through all the volumes was Ai. Ai is pretty much amazing, strong and admirable. She's headstrong, and pursues her goals like a mad man. But what was really interesting was the view upon beauty, and how beauty is actually just as much about tidiness and sense of style as actually being naturally beautiful. That is actually very true, and it makes a pretty realistic picture about beauty in nowadays society. The manga is also very harsh towards people who blame their misfortune upon them being fat, out of shape or ugly. Actually quite a life lesson and eye-opener, even though some aspects of the manga can be a bit morally twisted.
One of these morally twisted aspects is about virginity. Ai doesn't want to be a virgin until the age of 30. Pretty much everyone in the manga looks down upon virginity among people their age (and older). But actually this aspect is realistic too. I can't know if this occurs all over the world, but in my society virginity past the twenties is often seen as uncommon and therefore a bit embarrassing. So even though it is morally wrong of these young people in the manga to be talking about virginity like that, it's pretty much the truth anyway.
The serious topics put aside, I actually like this shoujo manga. Of course it is targeted toward younger females, and therefore it is best suited for females (as others have mentioned), but it wasn't bad. The art was good, the plot was (though cliché) cute enough and the manga itself held some truth about real life. There was some humour, and Ai definitely lifted up the worth of the story, since she isn't completely your typical shoujo heroine. She is not stupid (though a bit naive at times, since this is her first romance), and she deals with the problems well.
On a side note, I have read a lot of shoujo, and I've often been forced to take breaks from mangas since the characters irritated me so much, but I had no need for breaks while reading this one. That must count for something.
At least worth a read for shoujo fans.

I liked it.
Good plot, strong female protagonist, very witty humor, and even realistic on some issues about "beauty". Though the guy was an ass, don't let him get you from appreciating Ai (main protagonist), in fact, if you think about it, So (the guy) was the reason Ai was portrayed as a strong woman. If the guy wasn't such a jerk, she'd just be a normal teen age girl in love.
Oh and it's hilarious, I love both Ai and Mina's humor.

its filth like this which encourages girls to hate themselves for not being pretty and therefore never being able to get a boyfriend! basically saying if your not pretty your worthless and unless you change you'll never be happy. I hated this manga the art was nothing special, the lead was annoying, the message behind the manga was appalling. It was also realllyyy boring

I ignored the low ratings for this manga and actually gave this manga try since the same mangaka had written men's kou which was absolutely brilliant but this is far from even "average". This is one of the worst shoujo mangas I have ever had the misfotune of reading. Why? Because of the male lead who is basically a jerk and as strong as Ai is, the fact that her love interest is someone like that asshole just makes me not like her either. She ignores the nice guy who treats her good and instead chooses a jerk who only likes her because of the appearance. Typical player who i found didn't even have some of the redeeming qualities that other players in mangas tend to have. Check out stroke material and you will know what those redeeming qualities are. basically i hated the male lead and i disliked ai for choosing such an asshole. The art was good, Ai was an ok character but her love interest just ruined it for me and I am a dude.

I read the reviews here and I almost didn't read Doubt!! because of some of the bad comments. But I did end up picking it up because I liked the mangaka's other work so much, and I'm glad I did! Doubt!! is definitely one of my all-time favorites now.
The idea that beauty is only skin deep seems like it's all the story's about, but actually, I think the mangaka is trying to say that girls should have more confidence in themselves. Like, Ai was an ugly girl before she made herself beautiful, and the fact that she never gave up and took action instead of just wallowing in self-pity is why she's such a great heroine. I actually really like this message and that's part of what made Doubt!! very fun to read. As for Ai's relationship with So, I do think it was weird she fell in love with him so quickly even when she knew he was a player, but I don't see anything wrong with her later actions. She truly loves him a lot and will do anything to keep him, and in the very end, she was even willing to let him go so that he can be happy. Yeah, So was a player but he remained faithful to Ai the entire time, and towards the end he only chose Shuko because he felt sorry for her, not because he loved her instead of Ai or that he didn't care about Ai.
I thought the ending, although a bit sudden, wasn't unsatisfying (the mangaka said herself that the series was cancelled and she had to change her plans and end it). The last few pages of the last chapter were really cute and happy, and I think it was better than dragging the series on.
Doubt!! is a very funny manga. A lot of times while reading it I was bursting out in laughter and slapping my legs. The art is ok, I didn't like So's drawing but oh well, it didn't make the manga any less enjoyable for me. Some scenes, Ai is drawn really pretty (esp. the scenes where she gets mad and starts yelling at people... my favorite part of the manga.)
To me, Doubt!! seemed to have a pretty strong feminism vibe and Ai is definitely the most hilarious, strongest and most determined heroine ever. The other characters were great too. I just think that people should give this manga a chance: you could end up loving it like me.

The main character is really different from other mangas. That's why I like it. It would've been boring if she was too innocent-like (I dislike those type of girls). She loves SO a lot even though he's kind of a player. She's also really determined. I really, really recommend this.
