Description
An independent collection of short stories — Ultramarine Schooldays highlights the color that evokes faithful memories, tenderness, and melancholy. These stories take place in Japan and in the West, in the past and in the present. They may involve a romance in the city, an energizing walk in the forest, the daily mundane life of a waitress working in a café, or a medieval intrigue; but what connects these stories are the powerful messages they deliver.
Volume 1:
• Tale of tail / Window to the spirit world
• Princess prisoner
• Teacher and I

Charming Tales

Irie knows how to craft interesting stories with a minimal amount of pages, and this collection shows how great she's at thinking up various storylines. They're not all romance-based (clearly her forte). Some lean more into family territory, others are more Medieval Ages-inspired and then you have a few offbeat supernatural ones.
I liked one of the early ones with the spirited girl and the oblivious playboy. Other favorites were the cafe lady who was puzzled at a disheveled man seemingly unfazed by her charms and the 3-chapter tale chronicling a mom taking care of her 3 sons and eventually letting them go.

Love them!

Short stories without the typical narrative. The stories are mostly of everyday occurrences and feelings, they just pull you in with a bit of "magic".
Great art.
Great art.
The storyline's is unique, every chapter is different story, it suited for those who doesn't have much time to read.

The story is consists of short stories manga. I like it because it's not a one shot, and it always have good storyline. For me who works and sometimes doesn't have time to follow new manga with new continous storyline, this one is suited for me, because every chapters have different stories (mostly).
An Enjoyable hit or miss.

The series is a collection of one shots made by the author of ran and the gray world.
Most of this series is fun. I love the author's art especially how she draws the female characters. She can literally make them feel alive. Something very small amount of authors are capable with their art alone. However the problem lies in the misses. Their are more series than i expected that i didn't really like. Like the historical princess one. A bit rapey tbh. Some other ones with huge age gaps as well as others that are just plain annoying. like the farming chick one.
I enjoyed the romance ones though especially the ones that lasted more than 1 chapter. They had a very good chemist the FMC and MMC of that one shot. Bonus if they had sex.
I mean each story is good enough. But none of them were really exceptional. So the good and bad don't really balance out that well. Now their are still more good than bad and i do like this series. It's just not a must read.
Note: Review does not contain Vol. 04, Ch. 1-2 as it is a sequel to Kodama no Tani - Ouritsu Daigaku Sourangeki.
TLDR: Fun and enjoyable. 6/10

I read four of these stories and couldn't figure out what was going on in any of them. "Ran to Haiiro no Sekai", by the same mangaka, was quite understandable and very good, but this one is impenetrable to me. The art is great though.
****
With more, later reading, I'm beginning to get a handle on the stories, at least the "romantic" ones. They are fascinating in that they seem to take place in a different world than we're used to in manga. And that's especially true of the male characters. Gone are the sexually desperate but hopelessly repressed teenagers of shounen, the etiolated effeminate love muffins of shoujo, and the sex hounds of "smutty" joshi. Instead, we are offered large, very handsome men of unpredictable character. And so far they seem decent. Their being like this opens up whole new possibilities of storytelling, seldom hinted at in the usual kinds of manga.
I'm looking forward to reading the rest.
