Description
Kanako is a young woman who is running an old book store. One day, a customer comes in who shares her taste in books. He's a teenager named Akio, and he and Kanako quickly find that their taste in books is only the first of many ways that they fit together well. Kanako immediately realizes she wants him, and soon blurts out awkward things, like proposals of marriage and cohabitation. Despite their different ages and their awkwardness, it seems like their relationship has the potential to grow into something beautiful.

Could Have Been Different

As some of you will have noticed, manga authors frequently like to put something slightly transgressive in their stories to spice them up. This manga is an example of that. However, IMHO the author cheated—in two ways. First, in making the boy unusually tall and "filled out" for a high school freshman, she blunts the sense of the transgression by the "older woman". Second, the same choice also serves to make the story look visually like nothing more than a standard joshi.

This one choice in the design of the boy character undermines what would otherwise have been the uniqueness of this story, and also makes it rather boring, at least for this male reader.

love the main characters and the secondary ones. the story is touching and interesting too. there's also little drama and misunderstandings which makes this a fun read. I also love books so I relate to them. and I'm finding older female/younger male to be very alluring XD

It's a good little story, nothing too deep or dramatic (or comedic for that matter), just a short, lightweight slice-of-life-y type romance.

Nice and straightforward with pretty much all likable or at least sympathetic characters too.

...who thinks this isn't that sweet?//srsly.
Maybe this time, my romantic-radar didn't really get that feel. I meant-- I may get it, but not like the others. So when I read this, it's like reading an ordinary-shoujo-story (but in this case, you can say it's seinen--). True this is cute, adorable and light read. But somehow--- it just too so-so for me.

Anyway, maybe just me! (laugh)

First of all, the main couple are just adorable together. What I like about this manga is that the couple actually gets together early on, and it progresses to a satisfying and relatively drama-free end. The only reason this doesn't get a 10/10 is mainly because it's a little forgettable. Nice story and all but nothing really stands out as exceptional. Even our main couple, even though they are cute as heck together, come across as a little one-dimensional. However this is a nice and short read, and is highly recommended for anyone looking for a quick feel-good romance manga.

This one is wonderful! The art work is beautiful and fitting. The work itself is easy to read and engaging. The plot is well-paced and a nice combination of cute and interesting. The story has more things to it than the romance only, which is done well and gives the work a literary quality (no pun intended). The only very minor criticism I have is that there is a slight plot-hole with regard to Akio's family (parents are explained but the sibling is a loose end or translation error). The reason why there are only twelve chapters is to simply stick to the point and not go off on some melodramatic tangent. Far from melodramatic, Futari no Renai Shoka is warm, simple, sincere, and beautiful.

Damn couple... they are so damn cute I cant stand it lol. They go quite fast for a normal relationship but I think it is fine.

As a book reader myself I found relating with some of the dialogues given, specially the one Nanao gave. It also made me remember those special meetings one often has in life but... sadly we tend to disregard them for any reason or circumstance, this manga made remember a couple of them.

Good and warm story for a light read if you are tired of the common stuff around.
