Beautiful art and story

I really, really loved this manga! The art is just so beautiful! All of the characters are very likeable, even the bad guys. I liked that they were introduced gradually, so that you don't feel overwhelmed trying to remember all the names and it gives you a chance to get to understand them. I was pleasantly surprised that the characters don't get tossed aside and forgotten once the story moves out of their respective counties, but instead stay significant to the story untill the end. The story is the third great thing about this manga. It's an adventure with family/court politics. I used to hate family drama (the kind that runs in TV as "sitcoms" ) but when done right, I love it (another great adventure & family/court politics is Mo Dao Zu Shi aka Grandmaster of demonic cultivation, give it a try!). So, do I recommend reading this manga? Absolutely! Is there anything I didn't like? Not really, more like I'm sad about a few things, namely

that Ishtar couldn't stay with Duzzel AND Darres (I think I prefer Duzzie to Darres) or that Yuujin and Duzzie died.

The premise was decent. I liked the first couple of volumes, but then the story just really tapers off. You wait for actual romantic development, but the main couple never develop further. In fact, most characters remain pretty shallow, and the untapped romantic tension just gnaws at you until the end of the series. And then you wait for the story to develop further ... and you're left thinking .... WTF? at the end.

That was literally the worst end plot ever too. Someone please tell me ... why couldn't Duzzel just STAB the human boy to death? Nope. Gotta self-destruct.

Not A Bad Read

I forsook real life duties to finish this manga in two days, so obviously it is, at the very least, entertaining.

I like most of the characters, and some of them actually have character development. I will say there were way too many characters and plots, and had I not read it all at once I would have had no idea who was who and what was what. I still had to stop when a character's name was mentioned and think about who that character was. There's two characters who look almost exactly alike and it was really hard to differentiate from those two (the half-water dude and the half-vampire guy).

I too think the ending was really rushed. It was literally wrapped up in one chapter. The romance was questionable, as was the death of a character, and the reuniting of a family. None of it really made much of an impact because it happened so fast, almost as a, "Ok there it is, it happened let's move on."

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The one the main character ends up with never says he loves her or indicates any romantic feelings for her. The death of the character who does very much love her is just kind of thrown in at the last chapter -- I don't think she even knew how much he cared for her. And the reuniting of the prince with his father... well I almost feel like that could have gotten an arc on its own in a different kind of story.

At the same time I did not want the manga to be dragged out for much longer. It is almost 90 chapters at 15 volumes. Even good shoujo really should never last very long.

In the end I liked it, but I finished without feeling much of an impact from it.

I usually avoid shoujo but this seemed to have potential to be a good manga, so i stuck with it.

There are many characters, but you eventually get to remember their names, most of them have distinct faces and the confusion is not as bad as in other shoujo mangas.

The romance was ridiculous in this. Everyone loves someone that loves someone else. But they're mostly friendly about it, even the bad guys. You'd expect a man to fight for the woman he loves, but these guys just lay down and take it when she loves their best friend. This is realistic in individual cases but here they're all like that.

Women are weak. Don't mistake me for some crazy feminist, i'm actually a man, but you can't help observe the contrast. Well, maybe it suits the medieval scene. We do get a woman warrior, however we don't even see her fight. So women in this are meat to advance the plot, they sacrifice themselves or they get randomly kidnapped or killed.
You'd think the main character, Ishtar, would be better, but no. She's a spoiled brat which would be dead in two seconds if not for everyone loving and protecting her, for whatever reason. She's useless till the very end.

Talking about Duzell would spoil things, but let me just say he was really disappointing as the big bad guy. Or even as a vampire.

Almost everyone was a better character than Ishtar and Duzell.

The ending displeased many, and they were right. It was too fast and short for a such a lengthy manga, but it wasn't the worst i've seen. The ride there was enjoyable, and it would have been still for another couple of volumes to tie loose end the proper way.

All in all i do recommend it, it's a fun manga.

I pretty much read the whole series because of my love for Duzell the vampire king.

Everything's good and all, but I gave up reading around volume 13 because, frankly, everything is just way too confusing. Too many characters, too many strange names, civil war, and too many subplots for my mind to keep track of.... Plus, it's now obvious that the couple I ship will not be canon. I really really had high hopes for..

DuzellxIshtar!!!!!! >.<

What a let down.

SO, i pretty much googled the ending to spare myself the pain of reading another 167 pages until the end.

anyways, this manga was pretty good and i honestly adore the characters. I think this manga needs to be tried by everyone. It has nice art and a solid setting. The rest just depends on the individual perceptions of each chapter. The ending was the main disappointment.

Like many of the other posters, I thoroughly loved this manga... until act 21. I was happily reading along the first 95% of it thinking, wow I LOVE these characters! And the story-line is unique and refreshing! The main character is crass, wily and adorable.. and Duzie has great character growth. I had high hopes for how the romance portion of this would pan out, as well. How can anyone say anything bad about this, I thought to myself, I will most certainly give it a 10.

WRONG! I am knocking this down to an 8 for how absolutely terrible the ending was. Not only was it completely disappointing, people are NOT kidding when they say it seems totally slapped together at the last minute. In a matter of like 5 panels I was like... what?? wait... WHATconfused Not even like, oh boohoo what a tragic ending I am so heart broken. More of a feeling like wow, didn't even try did ya?No build up, no thorough emotions. Not to mention even if it was properly built up and played out, it was extraordinarily disappointing. The romance panned in a very unsatisfying, terribly cliche, boring way.

So what I am getting at is that the first 20 acts of the manga were a 10 for me. And act 21 was like -5. For me, the value of the ending is much more heavily weighted than the rest. Read the first 20 acts and fantasize about the last one. You will probably enjoy it more that way.

I read this about a year ago and it was over all really good but I wish Ishtar would end up with Duzie instead of Deris! I LLLLLOOOOVVVVVED DUZIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly don't know why she liked Deris and what was so good about him!!! That is why I rated it a 9 instead of a 10.... ALSO! I wish scanlators would translate more of JUDAL's manga! I want to read more of her sweet and amazing manga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (/>0<)/

I thought this was an interesting manga until I got to the last 5 volumes...

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
as in when it became apparent that Duzell was never going to end up with Ishtar cuz she clearly had no romantic feelings for him...
And when he dies, it's very badly played out.
I feel like it was almost the equivalent of him saying "Aight. I'm gonna go die now. Byeeee!"

I was quite upset sad
I wouldn't recommend this manga simply because it's a very big let down.

Well duh, bc I'm a guy.

Another vampire trying to resolve everything like in Vampire Juujikai, except that it was horrible.
Duzell's character is just so... fake.
And I'm sorry, but most guys don't swing around like that, if you know what I mean.

Very unsatisfying. Why did I even read this?

Before you look at this and go "eew, ANOTHER vamp shoujoconfused", just know that this is not what it looks like. I was hesitant to pick this one up at first, but decided that I would try it because of it's goo reviews. It is (only on volume 7) good biggrin Ishtar is a badass, and Duzell is so cute! The plot develops nicely, and it has a great fantasy setting. I barely even reckognize this as a vamp novel, due to the fact that the vampire can barely classify as one. The jokes are funny, and the love map is off the charts! Gender does not mean crap in this manga. I'd definitely reccomend it for someone whose into a good comedic adventure story biggrinD
