Nice story

It's so sad the ending was rushed due to the author not being funded or something like that. But I thought it was an absolutely great story! Ai never forgets her roots throughout this whole story which amazed me entirely. I loved the characters and even though I got second lead syndrome most of the time throughout this series it was still good lol. The main guy is trash but I dont blame him because he was thrown into adulthood at the age of 5 or 12 (you decide) so it isnt surprising if his character is a bit iffy most of the time. Ai is a strong female lead no matter what anyone says because she did things I could never imagine doing in my whole lifetime. The only weak part about her is falling for a playboy but we all make mistakes right? ^-^ The story was good overall if you were to ask me. wink

An actual playboy!

Tired of those shoujo "playboys"? Those "playboy" male leads that've had like 1 ex-girlfriend, and has had intercourse like only 2 times? Then Doubt!! is the perfect manga for you. The male lead is actually a playboy. He lost his virginity when he was 12 and has had sex a plethora of times since. His flippant attitude regarding sex makes for great comedic fodder. At times he'll satirically gleam insight onto having sex with non-virgins vs virgins; if he's interacting with an attractive girl, he's probably had sex with her at some point or another. When he starts dating the heroine he's got 3 girlfriends and is in an open relationship with all of them.

Read this if you're tired of those "popular guys" acting like crazy possessive weirdos, being in love with the heroine to the point of masochism, immediately after they "fall" for her. You will truly doubt whether or not he loves her. He is a character that obeys the archetype he was originally derived of. He's the kind of character that fathers the illegitimate-child protagonist of some other manga. Sometimes you need to actually make a story about the less-than-perfect couple that doesn't fit any sort of true love romanticism (from beginning to end); this is that story.

It's cringe-comedy at it's best.

It could have been good...

It could have been a good manga but the male lead really messed it up. Why the hell does Ai Chan have to always always fight for him? He sucks as a man and boyfriend making his girlfriend always feel insecure and not giving her the place and respect she deserves. To have a srrong female lead it isnt necesary to have an ass of a male lead, a woman can be strong with or without men around. Sou is really useless and not worth her effort, hes just a pretty face and no brains. Does Ai have to spend the rest of her life fighting off women just because Sou has no resolve?
Could have been a great manga but the mangaka missed the chance to make it so.

it's not that bad...

the story is not that bad, nice but a bitsy more mature shojo.
the thing i resent in this manga is the main characther - not the main asshole one, but the girl who is letting him be the asshole. i didn't particulary not like her, i frickin cheered for her as well but it made me feel bad about myself. it's really sad to see her trying so hard for him after she won him over, after he really really started to love her. the things he did, which she forgave, he practically shoved her away from him several times and she still came back and everyone forced her to fight for him - cause well apparently it's in her personality to be strong and never give him up. :\
in my eyes she was made desperate, she was humiliating herself. i didn't mind any of it in the begining, but at the end, the last few chps. those were the chps that made me feel this way, that made me see her like i do now, that made me pity her. i don't resent the main guy, i don't mind that he was an asshole, i don't mind the things he did, i just wish that we could have seen at least one story/chp where he is the one trying to fight for her.

1st vol until 4vol were very funny...i dont really expect much of romantic plot for this manga actually..im satisfied by the comedy plot that the female lead created..as i was reading this i kept on thinking 'man i really hate 'so' as ai bf',she got bad taste..how i wish she could fall in love with yuu,coz i really hate 'so' character .

I do really admired ai strong character,at first i thought when she was in love polygon or what ever it called,i bet she goin to acted weak, vulnerable and cry..but it turned out im so wrong, she really is strong..what i hate about her character is she is such a fool n blind over such guy...OMEEE...

Maekawa ai u fool...anyway overall this manga is worth readin..it really funny.....give it a try if u want a good laugh but if u dont like stupid fool character just forget it...k bye..

Everything was pretty good, actually, the heroine was strong, but funny and I didn't hate her at all, the art was good, and the whole makeover thing was interesting to me. The humor was a nice touch. Seriously though, the heroine was refreshing and I didn't dislike anything about her except for the fact that she liked a f*cking ASSHOLE! I can't begin to express my discontentment with him! I ended up trembling with anger near the end where he chose another girl over the heroine TWICE. He could have at least made it up somehow but.... Ugh seriously though fuck him. Good manga otherwise..

Don't let the negative comments put you down. Read it for yourself. I actually ended up fairly liking this manga.

As many others have mentioned, yes, it's filled with shoujo clichés, and the story is pretty much predictable. Sô can be a jerk (but his jerkiness can often be justified because of various reasons, including being rich ( = missing realistic view of the world) and a troubled childhood which can pretty much f*ck up every child), but I've encountered much worse male characters in other shoujo mangas.

What really kept me going through all the volumes was Ai. Ai is pretty much amazing, strong and admirable. She's headstrong, and pursues her goals like a mad man. But what was really interesting was the view upon beauty, and how beauty is actually just as much about tidiness and sense of style as actually being naturally beautiful. That is actually very true, and it makes a pretty realistic picture about beauty in nowadays society. The manga is also very harsh towards people who blame their misfortune upon them being fat, out of shape or ugly. Actually quite a life lesson and eye-opener, even though some aspects of the manga can be a bit morally twisted.
One of these morally twisted aspects is about virginity. Ai doesn't want to be a virgin until the age of 30. Pretty much everyone in the manga looks down upon virginity among people their age (and older). But actually this aspect is realistic too. I can't know if this occurs all over the world, but in my society virginity past the twenties is often seen as uncommon and therefore a bit embarrassing. So even though it is morally wrong of these young people in the manga to be talking about virginity like that, it's pretty much the truth anyway.

The serious topics put aside, I actually like this shoujo manga. Of course it is targeted toward younger females, and therefore it is best suited for females (as others have mentioned), but it wasn't bad. The art was good, the plot was (though cliché) cute enough and the manga itself held some truth about real life. There was some humour, and Ai definitely lifted up the worth of the story, since she isn't completely your typical shoujo heroine. She is not stupid (though a bit naive at times, since this is her first romance), and she deals with the problems well.

On a side note, I have read a lot of shoujo, and I've often been forced to take breaks from mangas since the characters irritated me so much, but I had no need for breaks while reading this one. That must count for something.

At least worth a read for shoujo fans.

male lead is a jerk

I ignored the low ratings for this manga and actually gave this manga try since the same mangaka had written men's kou which was absolutely brilliant but this is far from even "average". This is one of the worst shoujo mangas I have ever had the misfotune of reading. Why? Because of the male lead who is basically a jerk and as strong as Ai is, the fact that her love interest is someone like that asshole just makes me not like her either. She ignores the nice guy who treats her good and instead chooses a jerk who only likes her because of the appearance. Typical player who i found didn't even have some of the redeeming qualities that other players in mangas tend to have. Check out stroke material and you will know what those redeeming qualities are. basically i hated the male lead and i disliked ai for choosing such an asshole. The art was good, Ai was an ok character but her love interest just ruined it for me and I am a dude.

I liked it.
Good plot, strong female protagonist, very witty humor, and even realistic on some issues about "beauty". Though the guy was an ass, don't let him get you from appreciating Ai (main protagonist), in fact, if you think about it, So (the guy) was the reason Ai was portrayed as a strong woman. If the guy wasn't such a jerk, she'd just be a normal teen age girl in love.

Oh and it's hilarious, I love both Ai and Mina's humor.
