I can totally see why do many people have given this manga a ten but to be honest it was just kind if average. The characters in this manga were left pretty underdeveloped and what I considered to be the hook was at the end of volume 2. The plot developed pretty slowly until the last few chapters where a bunch of junk/characters got shoved in. Its a good read if you want something quick

17 Years of Unpopularity?

It saddens me to see that this series has yet to hit a spike in popularity after seventeen years of release. As a kid I was locked into Shonen Jump and never took a chance to broaden my interests; Kazan changed that. It's thanks to this series that manga has played such a huge impact on my life thus far, so I guess that's a clear sign of bias in this review.

Back when I was twelve or so I thought this series was a masterpiece! It had everything I could ever dream of and I went on to create all of my roleplay characters into a mirror image of Kazan himself.

Fast forward ten years where I've matured and expanded my pool of manga to an absurd amount. After being exposed to different genres and reading through some amazing series, I can still say Kazan is a quality manga that will entertain the most critical reader. The art style and character development are executed brilliantly and mesh well with the story/plot as a whole.

All in all, it's only seven volumes long and the only regret you'll have is not giving this series a chance ! Kazan will forever remain a classic that I can fall back on if I want ever want a good read

this manga is quite good. i think the main character is quite interesting and i love this dry world, i think the mangaka did quite a good job fleshing it out. however, the pacing is quite fast toward the end, i would love to explore more the psychology of the usage of sacrifice on the country. the art is quite rough but still acceptable.

good manga

This is an above average manga and in the first volumes it's a really great one.

It has a faint Nausicaa feel but it managed to pleasantly surprise me a few times with adult and intelligent events hard to find in other manga, like respect for nature even if the mangas plot doesn't especially revolve around that.

Unfortunately towards the end things move too fast and characters get forgotten when it comes to proper characterization. So when the manga ended i also ended up disappointed by what could have been a really great manga but was only able to rise up to being good.

A Fantastic Shonen Story

While not the perfect manga by any stretch of the imagination, Kazan is an excellent read for any fan of the medium. The story is deep enough to keep the experienced reader invested, while shallow enough for the new reader to follow easily. By the end of the story there will be a few points that leave you scratching your head, but that generally comes with all manga. Also, the shortness of the manga really plays to its strengths; if this story were stretched over another 10 volumes or so it would quickly drop in rating. By keeping the story short and sweet the mangaka got out what he needed said and did it well unlike many other mangaka (I'm looking at you Tite Kubo).

This is an absolutely wonderful story of a boy who falls in love only to have that love taken away. He spends his life trying to get her back, and succeeds. The characters are fabulously well made. Read this. ASAP

This is a very good fantasy story about hardship, perseverance and the single-minded focus on one's goal. And it's a great story, full of suspense, action, tragedy, and hope (and somewhat too many flashbacks, but that's not a major criticism). The series benefits a lot from the author's decision to focus on only a few characters - all in all, I think there are less than 10 important characters, so they all get sufficient amounts of screen time.
The conclusion and the ending of the story contain a few surprises but were told well.
Recommended.

It was a good manga, nice plot and decent art. My favorite part is how the main character is not some stupid main character. He knows what he wants and doesn't stop to get it. It's not some fake romantic world where everything is great he won't hesitate to kill someone and he wont save everyone that needs help. He's no a hero he's just a man on a mission.

I read the 1st 3 volumes at the library and I got hooked. I was lucky enough to get the rest of the volumes when a nearby bookstore was trying to get rid of their old mangas. If you do stumble upon this series, buy it!!

Character development is good and it grows on you. The storyline have a smooth flow to it and you'll find yourself so into it that you'll cry when you don't have the next volume.
