Horrible series

Boku no Hatsukoi o Kimi ni Sasagu is the story about a boy who has a heart condition. Like a horrible heart condition. Like if he breathes too hard he will pass out. He has been told that he will die at the age of 20. so the series is about the ticking time bomb that the boy's heart is and his love interest who's doing everything in her power to make his life better.

Now this series was pretty shit in the beginning .The problem wasn't really the story. The story itself is fine. Drama heavy and constant anxiety of how it can get worse are fun to read. But this series was just a mess. Explained BS characters that kept trying to get between the MMC and FMC. This was pretty much the constant drama that kept showing up it was annoying as it was infatuating. The series does not understand the meaning of pacing yourself at all.

There was some scenes i did like however like the scene in a flashback where the kid had to pee in diaper. He felt humilated and it was heart breaking. Like imagine being forced in a situation like this its disturbing as it as horrifying. I also enjoyed the kisses but not the romantic cuz there was no real build up or tension .Really more of the smutty ones and even then they weren't that good.

One of the big issue i had with this series is the art. I like shoujo art its good but not when the eyeballs are 1/4th the size of your face **EACH**. Its genially ridiculous and by far one of the worst artstyle's i've ever seen. Some of the art was good too look at and the double page spreads the author had the right idea (again with the kisses double pages). But man this was awful to look at.

BY far the worst thing about this series is the characters. Holy shit. These are some of the most brain dead stupid idiotic characters i have seen. This makes dense harem characters actually smart. Like how much of an idiot can one person be? So you see this guy asks this doctor due to his condition if he can have sex? Except that the doctor knows that the man is dating his daughter. WTF!!! Another moments is when the guy literally says that he did to the dad's face. I cannot understand the reasoning of any character in the series. The characters aren't unlikeable but they are brain dead. The only interesting and fun character was Kou and he was kind of a Richard for most of the series. regardless he definitely is part of the reason i enjoyed the latter half.

I did somewhat enjoy volume 7-9 cuz it seemed to have finally calmed down, characters generally become more endearing and fun. Author decided to pace herself and honestly if this was the end that might mean the series might've ended on a strong turn. Sadly though Japenese creators don't know how to write endings so they decided to leave one of the most important side plot points open and give a rushed ending.

There is also the issue of most of the characters looking like they are 25 when they are actually 12 so when the 2nd half starts which is set 5 years later everyone looks 0.3% older physically. It is ridiculous. It feels like the author was too lazy to create separate character designs so they just stuck with one for 5 years during puberty.

TLDR: This series is not good. It had a good strong core concept. and though its brisks along its a huge mess. Poor performances in art characters, dialogue and even romance. This was a mess all around and you should do yourself a favour and keep away from this horrible series. 1/10

A good shoujo manga

Before anything, this manga has the most epic "typical-feelings-declaration-interruption" of all time, I was expecting an "interruption" but how I laughed when I saw how the interruption was done, just brilliant xD.

Besides that, it has the same developments as any other shoujo, idiot male MC taking bad decisions, even if those decisions you can understand why he took them and an idiot female MC who was taking good decisions until the idiocy of the male MC brought down her emotional endurance. At least, in this manga, you can't bring yourself to despise any of them, even if you know what they are doing is stupid (beginning first with the male MC), it doesn't go beyond the "from here, I hate them now" limit.

Another plus, in Shoujo manga, normally it is the female MC who is stupidly annoying as hell, so she should be praised for not being that (much).
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The only problem she has is that she cant sympathize at all with Takuma's sickness, she should be the first one to understand how serious it is, since she has been with him the most and seen how bad it is. With this I dont mean she should follow his every whim and idiotic decisions but, you'll understand what I mean when you get to the middle of the story. If you truly love someone and that someone is sick, you'll read, ask, get advice, visit doctors, learn whatever you may need to learn to support that person, she barely did anything regarding that, Takuma doesn't help either but... well. At least things do improve at the end, but that still annoyed me a little bit.

Scoring reasons:

+1: Epic "typical-feelings-declaration-interruption" moment x'D
+1: Understandable and barely likeable male MC, (you can't deny the issues he has)
+2: Acceptable story line, even if it was sometimes overly "shoujoesquely" dramatic.
+3: Really touching and tear jerking moments.
+3: Greatly likeable female MC.
-1: A lot of developments are unavoidable and predictable (except one), some stuff just have to happen. This minus also includes some other details that I didn't like but aren't that serious to depreciate this manga further.

Some spoilers in this comment

This story hit me hard. My mom had open heart surgery in 1998 when I was 16. To this day, it's an issue for her. Her heart isn't as strong as other people's. I know she does too much!

I disliked when Kou said that since Takuma would die young he shouldn't fall in love. I understand where he was coming from, but his thinking was still wrong. Everyone needs to love and be loved.

I like Takuma's dad. He wanted Takuma to be happy, even if that meant his parents wouldn't be happy.

I especially liked the vows Takuma and Mayu gave to each other.

I loved how the mangaka shared Takuma's Mayu's, and other characters' thoughts.

All in all, I really loved this story...roller coaster emotions and all.

Highly recommended!

Very very slow progress. Also unsure if that kind of ending is something to like or not. Artistry way better in this series.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
starts with a boy that has a bad heart condition. He is stuck in the hospital, but the doctors daughter keeps him entertained here and there. You could tell they have a huge crush on eachother. And they confess their little hearts to each other. Soon after though he finds out that he is supposedly not supposed to be able to live past 20 years old... So he tries to cut all ties with her and sends himself to boarding school for his high school. She ends up following him there though and for years she chances after him. In that time he keeps giving her mixed signals. He also lets a girl trick him into going out with her. As he breaks up with her though to go to mayu she ends up dying of a heart attacks she was an ass for making into his fault though. By the time he reached mayu it was too late and she was kissing another guy. Mayu in return ends up going out with that guy.... But it didn't last long. And for years after that she keeps her crush on Takuma. He again gives her mixed messages up until it is close to the time that he fears for his lifespan.. Then he finally takes her more seriously... But then he breaks off from her once again as his condition worsened... Then when she goes on a date with her ex they get into an accident.. With Takuma thinking that she is dead he breaks down. Just to find out she was not the woman that passed away. He finally realizes his feeling and they finally meet each other in the middle. A bit after that though her ex is having migrains.. At this time he should have but didn't go to the hospital. As he finally moved on and got a new gf he suddenly collapses and his family was told he was brain dead because of a blood clot that grew in his brain from the accident. It was his heart that was going to go to Takuma for him to live... But shortly after he denied having that kind of surgery as well as the family decided not to donate his heart... A new type of heart operation came up with very high risk of death or cancer.. But he decides to take it anyway. He also asks for mayu's hand in marriage and they get married.. While he is in surgery he asked mayu to hold onto but don't look into a box that he gave her to old. She did though and in it was his will.. It shows pictures of things he wanted to do and also what he wills her to do do he is dead.. The end is of a picture of her and him happy with a family.. It remains unknown If that was his last dream or reality.

this is like reading a korean melodrama instead of watching.
alot of the same-plot lines and so much DRAMA. some of it got melodramatic enough that i started laughing when i should have been crying. it follows the korean makjang formula so it was pretty predictable.
i think i would have liked it more when i was 13, but then i've always gone in more for action and adventure stories rather than angsty romance, so maybe not.
not a good pick for those who dislike shoujo cliches in general, and melodramatic angst in particular.
i did give it a 4 instead of a 1 because i like some of the art and because it unintentionally made me laugh.

The first two volumes were great, but then it got worse. MCs became beyond idiotic and the series' tone became inconsistent. Emotional stuff became rare and weak.
Highschool period became a bit better, but not for long.

Car crash? Really? I mean, the idea wasn't bad, the execution was lacking.
And then suddenly Kou's death. Seriously? And rejected transplant. And experimental procedure. And really stupid ambiguous ending. Have some guts and do it properly.
Transplant wasn't an option before?

Really disappointing. If you want a manga about mortality, read Ai-Ren. It handles it better.

To be honest at first I was avoiding this manga like the plague because I thought "ah crap It's just gonna be so sad and heavy and i don't know if my heart can handle all that today" but little did I know that it would give me the opposite feeling. This manga was filled with so much Love and hope and the idea that it's all so fragile made it even more beautiful.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I thought Takuma trying to avoid Mayu was very realistic, i mean if it were me I'd probably do the same because truth is, what kind of person would make someone fall in love so hard knowing that in the end they'll only leave the person. But I loved that he chose to love anyway.

I love the characters-- Mayu is such a strong female yet so vulnerable. I love how she never stops believing, how she doesn't deny her feelings but looks at everything straight on, wholeheartedly and openly. I love Takuma's determination to stay alive because of love but most of all I love how much they love each other. This whole manga can be cruel at times especially since you, the reader, want so much for them to be happy and when you see them pray so hard it really hits the heart.
Don't get me wrong, this manga is NOT gloomy or dark or completely just downright emo, it's about hope, growth, strength, acceptance, choices, friendships but most of all it's about Love. A very deep Love that gives you a fluffy yet prickly feeling. It has a great balance of funny scenes, happy scenes and sad scenes.
Don't assume the ending either because well.. it's all about perspective. What YOU choose to believe.

Highly Recommended. Loved every bit of it.

Definitely worth to read

I picked this series up on whim when I was bored and it turned out to be a really great read.
The story has great balance, with scenes that make you burst into tears and scenes that would make you laugh. It's described in a very realistic way which makes you think "yea I think I would do that if I was in that situation". The author also managed to express the character's emotions really well. It makes it hard or nearly impossible to hate any of the characters. However, there are some parts where I feel that the author could have put a bit more detail into it to help make the readers feel all the emotional pain the characters are going through.

Overall it's definitely a good read if you're looking for a shoujo that doesn't have stupid characters, is realistic and has a nice plot. It definitely isn't a light-hearted shoujo that you could just glimpse through. You'll need to read it slowly to feel all the emotion in this manga.
