Can't drop it... but it's frustrating...

... 'cause it's a guilty pleasure... and yet it's grade-A RAGE material.

As many have pointed out already, this manga starts off great. That's exactly the problem; it's deceivingly good at the beginning. It deteriorates a lot later on, but by then you're already hooked. You're gonna wish you weren't, so that you could drop it and be done with it, but you won't be able to, because by that point you will have developed certain expectations that you will demand to see happen (well, it's either that, or I'm just weak and can't bring myself to dropping it).

Alas, the mangaka knows damn well what every reader wants to see, and she's using a carrot-and-stick approach to us. It is only by then that you realize that the title of the manga is only there to mock you. This story's ending might prove to be good (at least we all hope so), but the development so far has been anything but that. It keeps promising good times ahead, only to disappoint everyone in the next chapter in the most irritating, nerve-bending way.

Now, regarding the characters... I'm going to mark this next part as a spoiler, but I really suggest that you read it anyway, because it will give you a pretty good idea of what you're about to get into; plus, I'm not spoiling much of the story, really.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
First of all, there's Utsumi, the MC. Apart from the fact that he's a wimp, and dumber than a bag of hammers when it comes to anything romance-related, the guy is simply in denial of the fact that he has a penis, as well as all desires associated with it. Seriously. You could swear that he's a eunuch, and in fact he would be far better off as the MC of a manga about some Buddhist monks in Tibet or something. Now, I'm no stranger to shounen romance manga; I know that these "traits" of asexuality are more or less to be expected of male MCs. It's just that Utsumi is really THAT bad. In fact, the only worse MC I can think of is Haruto of Kimi No Iru Machi, and that speaks volumes.

Then, there's Yuki, the beauty on the cover, and as you may have guessed, our MC's (platonic) love interest. She's also about 90% of the reason I'm still reading this manga, because I took a liking to her right from the beginning. However, and it pains to say this, she's one of the very few characters I can recall in any manga I have read that actually have NEGATIVE (as in reverse) character development. She started off by being daring, strong-willed and determined; a woman who knows how to captivate the man she wants. But after she and Utsumi become a couple, she just happens to remember that she's carrying a huge traumatic experience from a past relationship that makes her feel extremely uncomfortable whenever Utsumi tries to man up for a change and become intimate with her. All of a sudden, all of the willingness and determination evaporate and what she's left with is tons of phobias and retarded decisions. It makes no sense... If you're such an emotional trainwreck under the surface, why bother seducing someone in the first place?

Finally, there's a bunch of other characters whose existence ranges from forgettable to annoying. The forgettable characters include the occasional girl that is after Utsumi's dick this month (that's right, this is a harem manga, much as it tries to prove the opposite), and the annoying ones include Yuki's brother and another guy called Tooru, among others (you'll see why, I won't spoil it here).

The story itself is like an unholy amalgam of shounen and shoujo romance, where all the bad tropes from both genres are put together and all the good ones are thrown away. It's like an over-dramatic soap opera set in a Japanese high school. If you're not into that sort of thing, save yourself a lot of time and don't ever pick this up.

I can't rate this higher than a 5. I guess it does have its merits, otherwise I wouldn't be still reading it, but seriously, it's only good if you feel like torturing yourself. The only reason I give it a 5 is because I admit that I'm a victim and I'm hooked to it. Maybe it'll be a lot more tolerable after it's complete and you can read it in one go, but right now, it's nothing but a weekly source of frustration. I'm pretty sure that when the story finally ends, I won't be saying "awww, what a nice ending"; I'll be more like "phew, glad it's finally over". No matter how good the ending might prove to be, all the preceding rage will be too much for it to leave a sweet aftertaste.

I got drawn in by the beautiful cover image up there, but the main character was such an annoying spineless whiner I almost abandoned it after the first couple chapters. Boy am I glad I didn't! Stick with this, it gets better fast.

Read in a safe distance of breakable objects

This manga started off on a good foot. The protagonist was realistic and down to earth and the story had a feel good atmosphere. Sadly, in the long run, the story just gets dulled and even to a point one would call moronic. Usually these types of manga would have problems due to an indecisive male lead, but the author decides to take the headache to a new level and makes the girls part of the problem too. I actually feel sorry for the guy. He wants to appease the love of his life, only for her to constantly flip the on and off switch and not providing a concrete answer. If Bruce Banner (aka: Hulk) read this manga, he'll be constantly smashing something. So what am I getting at? If you want to read something romantic and feel good, well look else where. If you are a masochist looking for pain and irritation to no end, this manga is right up your alley. As for me, this is off my read list.

Honestly I liked the manga at first, it showed premise not to be another cliched unrealisticx10 harem story. Well the whole thing is unbelievably predictable (up to chapter 150) with the only unpredictable twist being the one that enraged all the japanese Otakus

(Oh god a girl had sexual activity hurr durr, by the way it wasn't rape or anything, they were filmed during consensual intercourse, I mean yeah it's still bad but its a manga for gods sake)

Character development is horrible too, Male lead stays an emotionally unstable wuss for most of the time, female lead actually has reverse character development (from strong willed personality to emotional frailty caused by a trauma that she suddenly cant get over with). Well the other girls have acceptable developments at least. It seems to get worse but thank god its looking like this one's ending soon with a cliched "Good Ending". Could have been a (for a shounen romance) good Manga but dragged on for too long and introduced too much unnecissary and unlogical drama

Earlier, someone compared this series to something like a train wreck that one couldn't look away from--even if they wanted to. Well, I actually kind of agree with that. Overall, the series is nothing special, but it's far from bad. Sometimes the characters in this series really make me want to bang my head against the wall. For the most part, I think they're all likeable (in their own respect), but sometimes I just... You really just want to grab these people and shake the hell out of them until the naivety finally runs out of their ears. For instance:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The main character, Utsumi, broke up with Yuki over...well...they broke up. Anywho, in the midst of all his heart ache, he started hanging out with Shou--his first crush--and the two started dating. Now, in this latest chapter, Shou has the gaul to sit there and throw tantrums because she feels that Utsumi isn't "looking only at her?" Really Shou? You effing hooked up with the guy on the tail-end of a really hard break up. It wasn't even fully resolved on his end. Why would you jump into a relationship with someone when they're clearly (and it really doesn't get any clearer than him sitting there crying over Yuki) hoping for someone else? She set her own self up, but gets mad at him when things come to a head? Really? *sigh* I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but Shou is not a victim. She should have waited a little longer instead of jumping at what she thought was a opportunity because the guy was single again. That was just asking for it--to be hurt, that is. She even admitted that she knew about his feelings for Yuki (even though he really was trying to get over her), but that she hoped he'd eventually come to love only her. So I don't care what anyone says, it's her own fault. Really now...

Like I said, this series is nothing amazing and, despite all the frustrating elements (like throwing random female characters in there to rile Utsumi up sexually. WTH?), it's really not a bad series at all. I'd recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared to want to b**** slap the characters more often than not.

Worst main heroine ever...

This was just a long drawn out over dramatic pile of rubbish. The main heroine performs all kinds of pointless actions that make no sense, while contradicting her established character. What kills me is the male lead puts up with it all. Any other guy would of taken off for the hills. There comes a time to a time to cut your losses and move on but males in manga don’t know how to. The author just had the female doing nonsense in order to keep adding dram to the the plot.

I will give the writer credit about one thing. During one the the breakups, the male character was shown suffering the most realistic heartbreak I’ve ever seen in a comic. It was really surprising, because usually in manga, they move on very quickly. But when the story was over, I hated the main girl with a passion and I would’ve been happy if she just would’ve passed on. It’s just hard to get behind the character after she causes so much suffering to the others.

Also, when the whole thing is over with, you really have to wonder if she really liked him at all. She never did one thing in the entire series that showed that she cared for him. To me, that’s just not romance at all.

Having a girl demand to be raped in the same location she previously had a similar trauma to "overwrite the memory" is a pretty clear flagpost for when to stop reading this manga. After that arc plays itself out in the most retarded way the entire manga just loses it's mind. There are so many other ways that storyline could have been resolved as the girl clearly has damage she needs to deal with but instead the author decides to throw credibility out the window and have the manga take a 90 degree turn into crazyland.

The problem with romance manga is always the fact that people in love and happy together is not terribly interesting if you don't have the writing talent to make it bounce. SASUGA Kei doesn't have that talent so she takes the contrived bullshit route instead and ruins her characters. I would recommend this manga but once the whole demanding to be raped thing comes up you should just stop because it's all steeply downhill from there.

okay this is my 1st time here (not important but.....uhhh.. you know...)

anyway. guys you might see a lot of people here telling you not to read this manga because it REALLY is Frustrating but i'd definitely recommend it if your into romance.
First off, the story is great. just imagine that your climbing a super tall mountain without any safety gear. one mistake and your just a blob treated as pudding for the dogs. yup it's that unsettling, frustrating, and nerve wracking. add in a stupid excuse of a man Seiji Utsumi(the MC) thats gonna stress you down to the core. but after all that climbing ,eventually, you'll reach the checkpoint there waiting for you is a nice view with The girl(won't mention might spoil...)ready to serve you some tea(Oh yeahhh....). Then just imagine that bowser comes along to take the girl and brings her higher up the mountain then its up to seiji to bring back the girl and have some tea.then once he does that bowser shows his @ss. and they do it all over again.

BUT. the story isn't like that Bowser is more of a metaphor. the bowser of the story is the normal sources of love quarrels like misunderstandings and whatnot(at the start it was mostly because of the MC's impotence bigrazz ).That ,basically, is the main reason why the two are not together watching the nice view and drinking tea. and its up to seiji or the girl to find their balls and confront the problem. and as the story progresses the degree of the problem rises. and it leaves the two utterly flabbergasted at what to do with their lives and with their realationship. then they find a solution to it but finds another problem. thus the reader finding himself literally drained of their hp.

And because of all these things that readers cant stop reading it. you'd want to know how the story evolves(mostly their luuuv).
so it's up to you if you'll read it.me? i definitely recommend it. -__-

Um... I didn't mind it

Apparently most people generally didn't like where this manga went. I actually had no issues with it... maybe I just had lower expectations? I was like, 'Kay, I'm here for pointless drama and over-the-top romance that I could read a chapter of, every couple weeks, and not get bored of.' In that regard, I feel like I got what I came for.

I suppose there were several things that keep me around. Like, the art's really awesome and fresh. Also I really enjoy the jokes, a lot of the character interaction, and the dynamics between the secondary characters all the way through the story. I found the creator to be rather clever, on those points. As well, the pacing and comedic timing are always pretty slick in this.

I feel like the main issue was what seems to happen in a lot of popular manga--it's like you can hear the mangaka going, 'Oh crap, people still like this? Okay, how else can I stir up junk for the characters to deal with so we can keep it going... the publisher won't let me end it!'

Read the one-shot, loved the main girl. Currently reading the series and now I wish he'd go for the third girl in this mixed up plot. Frustrations abound in this rather rage worthy series. The art is great and the protagonist is better than most series. But the main girls in this case are....frustrating to say the least. Worth the read, but be prepared for raging on the level of Suzuka.

EDIT: I can say the problem of this series in one sentence:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
too much NTR.
