Decent...

The artwork in my opinion was well done, however, at some scenes it was sort of messy. The story was not hard to follow UNTIL the ending. I actually had to search around to comprehend the ending. Be warned there is rape and gore which I did not appreciate much.

Failed in the end

Really, what happened to the manga that was very interesting in the beginning?

Ok, the premise is something that many others have seen before but it had a good feel to it up until chapter 7 where it just got too rediculious. And what's with the ending? It was so rushed that it seems the mangaka just decided to give up and created a sudo-ending.

I can't recommend this fully to anyone, but i give it a pass for art, blood, and gore.

I think this is a great manga, i had fun beginning to end, but one gripe i had, was it should have been longer, it had potential to be a long running manga, and it's popularity sure has grown, but apart from the length it was a wild ride, i still give it a ten, because it's what it deserves, anyone giving anything lower, don't like violence or adult situations or are just nitpicking.

Disappointing

Yakuza Girl is a decent manga for what it is. It's got violence and ecchi, moderately attractive though uneven art and some well designed characters. The plot even seemed decent enough at first.

Unfortunately the series wasn't allowed a chance to develop into what it could be. After a promising start, the series fell short as it made it's way to a sudden, confused end in the second volume, making the whole thing seem horribly rushed.

Muddled second half and rushed art mar a good series

Well, where to begin... When the series first started, it seemed as if it would be a violent shounen fighting-type series with a Battle Royale kind of tone. It was all fine and good, and seemed promising, with some stylish artwork in areas (the part where the fat guy explodes in the first chapter is pretty cool). Sure, it wasn't totally original at that point, but it had a lot of good ideas.

The violence and ecchiness kept a decent balance with a pretty typical story up through about chapter 7 or so, when the art started suddenly looking a lot more rushed (earlier chapters also had some rushed artwork, but the quality drop was fairly extreme... As another reviewer stated, it's a little frustrating, because there's terrible rushed art right next to awesome detailed art in the series, often within the same chapter... but anyway). At that point, things began to take a much more confusing turn with a lot of cryptic statements and hidden motives, but still, as long as they explain everything eventually, it's all good right? Well, I'd like to say that everything was explained and everything got better... but it didn't. In chapter 8, seemingly random events and characters appear with no apparent reason, then by chapter 9 the series just jumped the shark with some of the weirdest stuff I have ever seen in a manga (I won't say what to avoid spoilers, but let's just say it involves flying boobs). The confusion continues through chapter 10, with extremely complicated political relationships that were never shown or explained earlier. Meanwhile, all side characters are completely left in the dust as the focus shifts entirely to the two main characters and some other characters who until then didn't have much role. It all ends up in a conclusion that's hard to wrap my head around. It seemed like it was trying to present some political view or moral, but it was a bit hard to understand (RL war is bad but fantasy war is good? I dunno).

In any case... Despite how this review is almost nothing but complaints, I can't say this is a bad series. It was genuinely thoroughly entertaining for the first volume with all the different Chivalrous Powers and factions, has some awesome art interspersed in the bad art, and is nice and graphic. Even the second half of the series isn't really BAD. There are certainly some memorable scenes here and there. Actually, despite my complaints, the second volume was probably much more memorable overall than the first volume thanks to a number of scenes that were either just viciously brutal or well-done. But it's all so hard to understand. I don't mind it when an author leaves some details up to the reader to decide, but when it's not just little details and is half of the story, it's just confusing.

It probably would have been better with a few more volumes and if the author had kept to the Battle Royale theme. With that, the side characters might have been able to receive some more development, because some of them were actually quite interesting when they weren't just posing for underwear photos or punching their girlfriend's breasts. Maybe the main characters too, since their development isn't exactly the strongest, either. Maybe we would have gotten better explanations for some things that just left a "huh?" feeling. It just feels like a lot of untapped potential, and it's unfortunate, but it's important to try to enjoy it for what it is. Overall, it's a strange manga, and a mixed bag in a number of ways. But if you want something graphic or don't mind a confusing plot, give it a shot.

Story has potential, but...
the action is subpar, maybe thats why the manga is laced with nudity. Like putting make up on something horrendously hideous to try make it passable. The drawing is not to my taste, the characters have weird bodies IMO (especially the girls)

Basically...
If you are looking for nudity, try hentai. If you are looking for action, try anything else. If you are looking for action with lotsa blood and nudity, then there are tons of other mangas like that. If you are looking for anything relatively enjoyable to read, it's not here.

The story is decent, still some things are obviously forced and poorly executed. The blood is ok, the action is okay too, but there is too much fanservice in this manga.

I think that i just saw two of the villains get some weird weapons from their private areas (LOL) The guy was a spear (LOL LOL) and the girl was a prominent SHIELD.... man i wonder how weird is the sex between those two ahahaha

I can't get attached to the characters, i can't feel any simpaty for any of them, i can hardly understand the drawing and some parts of the action are.... well... just too much hentai for my taste.

Everything about this title is a little off. The story seems really interesting so far, but it's poorly executed. Events jump all over the place without any clear break -- sometimes the story will just shift from one situation and set of characters to a completely different one, with no indication anything's changed (except it's confusing). The characters are interesting, but there's too many of them, and minor characters that are only seen once every third chapter will suddenly appear and do something totally insane, and then disappear for chapters again. It's difficult to become attached to any of the characters, with the exception of the two main characters, because there's very little development. Speaking of the main charachters, Senguu and Akari are likable, but there's no real depth to them, so it's difficult to feel any attachment to them. Any sort of serious behavior on their parts just seems like it's getting in the way of the action and pantsu. Speaking of pantsu, YG is overflowing with ecchi fanservice. Honestly, too much. I'm all for gratuitous nudity, etc, but there's gratuitous and GRATUITOUS, and this title falls into that latter "holy crap wow O_o" category. The fanservice is distracting, and sometimes just weird-looking. Which bring us to the artwork. For a title with so much great artwork, I'm stunned at how much seriously crappy artwork there is. I mean, we're talking about some serious QUALITY artwork here. When I'm looking at an image of a half-clothed girl, it'd be nice if her body parts were drawn 1.) proportionally, 2.) consistently between one panel and the next, and 3.) undistorted - as in "the body is not shaped like that". Terrible artwork mixed with great artwork is so frustrating. This title seems like the whole thing is a cookie-cutter-generic, "throw everything that's popular with boy's manga in - that'll make it sell well", recycled and unoriginal. Sad, because it really does have a lot of potential...

Too long; didn't read? Fun story, but it's obvious the author/artist were rushed, and it shows. Big time.

7/10 for raw potential and pantsu.

Edit After Sudden Series Completion at Chapter 11: Guess the publishers felt the same way.
