A Good Kid Shoujo
by HiddenRabbit

This was one of the first mangas I've ever read. I originally gave this a 7.5 but rounded to an 8 due to the scale. The story i admit is original. You really don't see alot of egg-heart base mangas. It's one of those unique magic girl shoujo story. The main character, Amu Hinamori, also has a different personallity from your usual heroine girl in magic shows. The art work is very attractive. You will probably be drawn in mostly because of the art if not the story. I do reccommend this manga to some people who like cute shoujo with love triangle and cute guys wink ikuto in particuliar. I do not recommend this to those who are looking for more focus on the love fraction of the manga since this didn't really have that much romance. Just development.

What I love first: The Artwork. 11/10.
O my god. So so so lovable. Overloaded cuteness. I really really love Peach-Pit's artwork

Second: The Chara. 9/10
Nothing's new, but each of the character is lovable, and every chara has its character, different from one to another. Yea, since it's shoujo, lovey dovey must exist, but what I like about it is how the main character, Amu, doesn't make it as the-greatest-problem-of-all-in-my-life. I really like that.

Third: The Romance. 10/10
haha, I like every pair.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Amu & Ikuto, not with Tadase
and actually I really hope dat homeroom teacher to be with Suu...
Too bad it's impossible

...the main plot, eh? haha

btw, sometimes, the scenes (especially between Amu and Ikuto), from the dialogues to the chara's motions and expressions, seems... so erotic XD all hail Peach-Pit!

Manga certainly better than the anime

The anime may look great, but it is certainly not mature enough, because it has a different target audience: kids! I feel like the manga is targeted more for kids as well as teens as well (since I read it- idk). It has 'erotic' moments, esp with Ikuto and Amu (Peach Pit does also write/draw ecchi mangas). I would also like to comment on the hating on Amu, seriously, she's a kid and everyone is different, definitely more likeable than some other dumb heroines out there. And oh, I forgot to mention the art is awesome! I love this series so much, even now lol and I'm officially an adult.

One of my favourites

I personally love this series because it was unique and different. Your lead wasn't your usual ditzy clutzy teenager obbessed with love and the art was visually stunning and the plot was quite good.

Plot
It was cute story and well put together. I especially liked the idea about the eggs it was really nice and sweet. The story was different because it had most of the main characters a younger age to your usual shoujo. To tell the truth I'm really glad that their young because a lot of things could go wrong if they were older.

Characters
Every was different and you could memorize their names too. Each character had their own story and issues to deal with and as you read you can see them grow like Amu and Ikuto who both really didn't know who they really were. I didn't really hate anyone but I disliked the part of the plot were Tadase started hitting on Amu because of her transformation and that also got on my nerves because I was a AmuxIkuto fan. bigrazz

Art
So pretty! It didn't burn my eyes every time I flipped a page. The characters are so different that you wouldn't have trouble telling them apart.

Issues
Yes, I had some issues with the manga that prevented from giving it a 10. The main couple in the manga Amu and Ikuto, it's not that I hate the couple but it's their age difference. It was a good thing the age difference but it was just too big. It looked like they were seven or six years apart which was nice and cute but at the same time akward and weird. I also believe if their ages were more closer we would have seen more chemistry which would be nice. The ending was not as epic as I hoped for Shugo Chara it was dispointing to me. Then I read Shugo Chara Encore it was nice however even though the finale was good and epic, I felt craving for more Shugo Chara wanting more chapters. I wanted to see what would happen to Ikuto and Amu in the future like if they would have gotten married or had any babies!! Also I felt some of the couples in Shugo Chara Encore weird especially the one with the class president.

Anyways I reccomend this to any who wants a good read! This manga will always be one of my many favourites!

I'm not really into the normal mushy shojo manga...

...and you may think I'm gonna be all " BUT THIS MANGA IS DIFFERENT!"
It's OK, I really like PEACH-PIT for Zombie Loan. Not the best manga for my tastes, but it's still a nice one, I suppose.
My suggestion for anyone that prefers mangas with a darker side, or anyone that isn't into the typical mushy shojo manga, to think twice before reading. But the art is really nice. I like PEACH-PIT's art a lot... And Ikuto IS drawn quite handsomely. ^^ Though I still can't get the fact out of my head that she's 12 and he's 17, seeing there must be some obvious maturity differences for them to actually be in love... I have to make myself go "Ok... let's just pretend she's 15...." every time there's an AmuTo moment.

Even if it's just a kid's story it did not stick with me as much as some other stories I read as a kid like Tokyo Mew Mew, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura or what not, but don't get me wrong, it was still a decent read. If only because Ikuto kept me coming back for more.

Oh did I have a crush on him as a kid. <3<3<3

This is one of those mangas that if you were like me and waiting for the untimely updates than you probably read all of it, but if you were fortunate enough to get all the chapters in one sitting then you might have skimmed which is what I would have probably done because not every chapter is worth reading.

Nevertheless, it's decent. Wouldn't say it's "great for kids," because I think kids would be even more bored and probably much quicker if they read this manga. But it's definitely for adolescent girls that like adorable bishounens and a "cool" heroine.

I loved this series and I do wish that the anime could have been like the manga with Amuto but I do loved Ikuto and I do like Tadase, even if I don't want to see Amu paired up with Tadase. I had to wait for the volumes to come out either in the stores or look for it online. It was run, cool and I do wish that I had some guardian characters floating around me and telling me what I should be since I think I need one. -.- Yoru was the cutest cat and I loved Diamond.

Warning: This review may include character bashing, ranting, fangirl-ishness, and a spoiler or two. If you wish not to see , then scroll down to the next comment(:

---------------------------------------------------
First of all, I would like to state that I enjoyed this entire thing.
Except for Tadase.
Princey boy can go fall in a moat. HIS MOAT. Stupid king wanabee.
I mean sure, Amu might be the only one for him, but he is NOT the only one for Amu.
I am pro Amu x Ikuto

Now My Reviews.
Art: 9/10. The art was fantastic. The characters were easy to tell apart, and the guys did not all look the same with the same haircut ^__^ And it was touching and funny(: i loved the expressions.
Plot: 8/10. It was very original, and deep. It made you think about yourself, and everything you want to be. There was romance, family, and friendship. I enjoyed it very much, and recommend it to anyone who likes magical little cute mini you's.
Characters: 9/10. I loved ALL of the characters. Except Tadase.

Manga like a piece of sweet candy

Being the first manga I ever read Shugo Chara! introduced me into the world of manga and as such I will always find this sugary sweet manga special in its own way. It’s more aimed for a younger audience but an older audience will find the manga cute as well, widening the target audience. Its fantasy-ish feel and whimsy plot add to the manga’s carefree world of shoujo, it was a great ice breaker into manga.

Plot- The main plot of an uncertain girl trying to find her place isn’t too rare in manga, but when you add Guardian Characters and eggs it becomes very unique. Peach Pit did an excellent job making the story line interesting and a fresh new unused plot line.

Characters- There are many interesting characters, all dealing with their own problems and struggles and many have their own Guardian Characters adding to their complexity. The cast of characters is diverse and all so different from any other character making a wonderful cast for the story. Though a few of the characters will easily fit into the regular clichés they still hold their own charm and all are very well rounded.

Art- The artwork is superb and goes along very nicely with the magical like story, adding to the stories enjoyment.

Other- I began to notice that if someone were a boy of Amu’s age they were in love with her at some time. If they were a girl of Amu’s age they were her friend or looked up to her. If they were a boy or girl younger than Amu they looked up to her. This was a bit unrealistic and after it was revealed that Amu was liked by so many boys I got a little exasperated by it.
The ending was also lacking compared to the rest of the story, there were just too many random unexplained events that were quickly pushed into the story before ending the series suddenly with a few questions left. There is a sequel to the story, Shugo Chara! Encore! So hopefully some things will be explained in that.
I would very much recommend this manga, it is one that can be enjoyed by a very diverse group of people and is a very sweet and endearing manga.

8/10 –Was good

Really super cute and addictive

This series is one of those addictively cute series. It combines the magical girl trope with the reverse harem, the student council setup, and the obligatory drama of the love triangle. It's also one of those series where everyone ends up liking the main character. That is, everyone likes Amu. I mean everyone. All the girls want to be her best friend and most of the guys are in love with her. Also, I don't know if Peach-Pit was trying to add real angst or darkness to the story, but if they were, it didn't work.

The part about the eggs representing people's "wanted" selves is really cute. It reminds me of the series Othello, where the main character has an alternate personality who is stronger and more confident, but in the end, they are really just part of the same person. This series sort of has the same moral. You can especially see that the idea is meant to be that "You can become who you want to be" with:

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Tadase, who becomes assertive even without a "character change" when he confesses to Amu. Amu's journey on the star road after the final battle shows this moral too.

What the weirdest part is to me is that the Canon Couple (Amu x Ikuto) are 5 years apart in age (or 6 - it's hard to tell) and since Amu is an elementary schooler, there is a huge ICK factor, which Peach-Pit lessens by not having them do anything particularly provocative.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Okay, well, sleeping in the same bed might've been questionable but it was actually just plain cute. Ikuto kisses Amu later but it's not on the lips (phew).

There's also the incest twist:

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Utau kisses Ikuto. On the lips.

Things that I didn't get or wanted to be resolved include:

Spoiler (highlight to view)
How on earth can the grown-up Tadase time-travel? Was that supposed to be important to the plot? It made sense when it was explained, but somehow it was COMPLETELY RANDOM!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Why can't Ikuto and Amu meet each other again? It sounded like they would never, ever meet again, but there's no reason given for this. Ikuto goes to search for his father - his disappearance is explained but isn't satisfactory - and also becomes a violinist. I guess what Ikuto meant is that he was moving away and never coming back?

That is probably the thing that upset readers the most at the end. Me too! ^^; Hopefully it will be resolved in Encore!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Najihiko never told Amu that he's actually Nadeshiko!

I was really looking forward to that!

All in all, it was a fun and quick read.
