Gripping

An extremely strong, gripping manga that truly captivates the reader's attention for the entire ride. 5 volumes felt short, but at the time very fitting for the story it tells. The heart-wrenching nature of the ending is not for everyone, and certainly wasn't for me: it left me with a tremendous bittersweet and sad feeling. However, I can understand the logic behind it, and it does not take away from the quality of this masterpiece.

I absolutely fell in love with this series. It's so touching...

The art was breathtaking. I loved it. It fits the story perfectly, and the clothing designs really piqued my interest. The main characters are gorgeous. It's almost as if everything in this manga is beautiful.

The story was absolutely breathtaking as well. There was not one slow moment. George and Yukari's relationship was absolutely gripping, that I often found myself falling in love with both of them. The other characters' were all very lovable and contributed a lot of awesomeness to the story. The ending almost made me cry...

I recommend this series!

paradise kiss couldn't have ended any better. ever since volume 3, i knew that george and yukari wouldn't stay together. their personalities just clash too much. if they did stay together, then the whole story of Paradise would be pointless, really. and there'd be no end to yukari and george's fights. on the other hand, i'm so glad arashi and miwako didn't break up. i almost expected miwako to ditch arashi for hiro, but anyway.

im too lazy to say anything else, so ill leave it at this. oh and, if you're the type of person who hates non-stereotypical manga, stay away from Parakiss. it'd be too much for your fantasy fillled brain.

When my friend recommended this to me, I laughed and rejected it because I was a total fashion geek (yes, I drew and made my own clothes) and thought that this manga was inferior to my apparently amazing skills (yes, I am making fun of myself).

Recently, I picked it up because I was bored, and it really blew me away. Whatever reality is, I do not know. I will not generalize and call it romantic or realistic, but Yukari's situation itself held both adjectives and won more empathy than I really expected to give.

and this might sound stuck up but..

the whole time he was being depressed I kept yelling "GO COUTURE, GO COUTURE! NOT EVERYTHING IS RTW YOU IDIOT. JUST WORK HARDER ASDFGHJKL;"

and then she finally broke it to him that he could actually work hard and get a chance.

That was probably was irritated me the most, haha.

If you're looking for a fluffy, romantic get-away, this is something you should probably avoid.

Oh and,

As much as I wanted a happy ending with Yukari and George, I'm really happy they didn't end up together. I just feel that it wouldn't have been healthy for either of them... Maybe this is not why Yazawa split them, but I think it carries a good message about mentally abusive relationships. Okay, public service announcement done.

great ending

This manga is like my guilty pleasure. I rarely find this type of dramatic shoujo/josei romance engaging, since most of them tend to be a bit over-the-top, but this one really got me - I finished it years ago and still come back and reread it once in a while. The art is beautiful; the story is actually pretty engaging; the characters are dramatic and silly and somehow lovable and have good development; the ending was amazing and a bit heartbreaking and happened at just the right time. Overall a great work from Yazawa Ai; I prefer this much more than her other works.

I've never been one for drama (more often that not I find the genre more tedious than meaningful) but Yazawa Ai's work is an exception every time. Wonderfully written with highly engaging art...The characters come alive through their story and you really feel like you're witnessing a section of each character's life. Also, I agree whole heartedly with every word of eylookturkey's review below. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
The ending made me furious at first because I wanted Yukari and George to work things out and stay together. The very next morning after I finished it, however, it suddenly hit me how beautiful the ending is...and I came to peace with the fact that things ended the way they did. Now I really admire Yazawa's bravery and genius in letting things end realistically and yet so...full of meaning.

This a series I haven't forgotten and will never forget.

Breathtaking, Complex

This is the only manga that's ever had me in tears. It's hard to extract tears from this face, you see - only very happy moments manage that (like the ending of Shrek II, for example...). The characters are, as another reviewer stated, immensely flamboyant, but something about each of their personalities rings as genuine. The main character, in particular, showed so many parallels with my own actions that I felt embarrassed and ashamed as I was reading her realizations of those bad habits.

Simply:
Intensely emotional, unpredictable, realistic, "Paradise Kiss" is a bittersweet symphony of youth and the complexity of reality, played sensationally by a crew of needle-toting misfits and their muse.

Real Emotions

Ai Yazawa's characters may be over-the-top flamboyant, but they certainly have very real emotions. This is the first manga I've read where the main character
Spoiler (highlight to view)
ends up with the side character male (who is usually the better choice for a long-term relationship)
. I'd say this is a realistic love story, not like the kind of fluff typical in a shoujo manga.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Yukari/Caroline's relationship with George is doomed to failure, because they're both very stubborn, headstrong people, and George can never really love anyone from the way he has been brought up. He likes to bend and manipulate his women and can never be part of a lasting relationship.

TOKYOPOP actually did a decent job translating this. I could feel all the emotions and confusion that Yukari was going through.
