However, even with all its benefits, magic can also be used for great evil; therefore, to prevent dark forces from upsetting the natural order of things, there exists a system of magical guilds in the Kingdom of Fiore. Under the command of their respective guild masters, these guilds are made up of witches and wizards who take on various job requests to earn fame and fortune. One particular guild stands high above the rest in both strength and spirit, and its name is Fairy Tail.
In his quest to find his dragon foster father—Igneel—Natsu Dragneel, a fiery and reckless mage, and his partner Happy run into a young celestial mage by the name of Lucy Heartfilia, who reveals that it's her dream to become a full-fledged wizard and join the Fairy Tail guild. After reading the latest few chapters, I think I might have just lost all my respect for Mashima Hiro. For a while now, the quality of Fairy Tail has been steadily dropping. I stayed with it because I believed the humor was worth reading each new update, because the intros to many arcs are intriguing, because I liked reading Fairy Tail. It was a refreshing break from life, even though I honestly prefer more serious manga.
In the beginning, Fairy Tail is a fun read. Nothing is repetitive, characters are being introduced, arcs explain the stories of the main characters, etc. Sure, there is some fanservice, and for all intents and purposes, seems like pretty much every other battle shounen I had read, but I was interested nevertheless.
Then it starts to get a bit more cliche. Lucy becomes less of a "female lead" and more of a person with giant tits. Big boobs are her entire persona ... Fight scene get a bit repetitive. When we reach the time skip, I quite honestly think I freaked out. Time skips are a big no no for me. It's a stupid, overused way to create drama, to power up the characters (and in this case, the heightened level of power is quickly forgotten) and just NONONONO.
This is when I began noticing things. The Japanese may view manga from a very culturally different standpoint than we. I never quite understood how the same repetitiveness I find in most really famous manga (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc.) could still continue to be so successful. However, I think we share one thing in common. We noticed Fairy Tail was not quite up to par anymore.
The mangaka introduces a ridiculous amount of characters, but the plot never seems to move forward. We are left we the same questions as ever. What happened to the dragons? What happened that day? Who is Zeref?
I suppose a drop in the rankings prompted the manga to include so much ecchi. That is simply my best guess. The fanservice has been so abundant lately that the latest few chapters seem to have been literally cut and paste from some hentai I read. I don't know if adding so many boobs would really increase sales and rankings (Porn is available so freely on the Internet?). It has, however, lost one female reader.

This series like many of it's brethren start of interesting (because it's new obviously) and evolves into something either really bad and get's cancelled or really good thus continued. If the latter happens then without a doubt the quality of it will gradually and steadily diminish the longer the series continues (Bleach is the no.1 case in my view.) There is only so much the mangaka can do before resorting to the shounen trade standard of dragging fights over longer and longer time periods; boring fillers and recycled situations.
Fairy tail started of very enjoyable but now it's dragging on. The poor guild never seem to catch a break, always suffering devastating blows from the bad guys of the arc. Yes I know that this is the bread and butter of shounen, I guess I've become jaded of seeing endless suffering of the "good guys" who never seem to get a happy ending. It's an endless cycle of protagonists getting injured physically and emotionally, eventually getting the upper hand (after a painstakingly long time of the baddies having their way and gloating like the a**holes they are), victory at a heavy price, brief (VERY brief) moment of rest before a new group of bad guys appear to start the whoooole cycle again.
I wish there are more manga of the same golden-standard quality of Fullmetal Alchemist. Gems like them are hard to come by.

I read abt 40 chapters of RAVE n hated it (no offence 2 those who like it, but it wuz too childish 4 me) b4 picking this up so I didn't have much expectations despite the High Rating
But I wuz hooked from ch.1 ! hahaha
Its amazing, awesome characters(very lovable), great action, fantasy etc lots of LOL parts and it really had me chuckling most times
Its also very WELL PACED. Each adventure they have could be used as a story for different manga's, so you can read it without getting bored.
I finished reading 355 chapters in like 4 nights!
Basically there's a lil bit for everyone 2 enjoy no matter what manga genre they like
N it very nonchalantly stresses d importance of friendship...keeps it fun n light & gives a warm fuzzy feeling
A definite MUST READ! (^^)

Lighthearted, fun, shounen fluff aimed at 11 - 14 year old boys.
If you're looking for character development, SERIOUS BUSINESS, grimdark and plot rather than PLOT, go look elsewhere, this isn't the manga for you. However if your looking for fun, an occasional chuckle, titillation and adventure, give it a chance.

Instead of thinking of clever ways for a protagonist to prevail in a clinch, the author decides to use ass pulls. The theme of "friendship = power" is used horribly in Fairy Tail. Also, STOP trying to distract us with fanservice and tits, it really pulls away from the story. This is okay for a light read, but if you're looking for a deeper story, I suggest you read something else.

I give this manga a 6 for its comedy and Happy is so cute and funny!
There is no plot or maybe there has been hints of a background story, but the author failed to develop it. Rather, a new villain appears in each arc and the main characters power up and defeat all evil for the sake of their nakama...which gets old really fast. Also, the characters have the same powers from beginning to current chapters. So, even the action isn't that exciting. I'm still following the manga from time to time, but if you're looking for a really good storyline along with action and character development, then I suggest you look elsewhere. Fairy Tail should mainly be read for its comedy because without it, there would be nothing else to read about.

Fairy Tail is fun and light hearted fluff. The characters are quiet likeable. Lucy is lovable, Natsu is Natsu and the Happy is a laugh. Only annoying character from the lot is that bitchy white cat, Carla.
Enjoy it for a fun, light read with ever decreasing story depth as the serious continues.

I really don't understand why everyone loves this so much. To me it was like a very typical shounen manga and thats probably what I hate about it. It has a very very strong male lead, who always power up and who doesn't seem beaten by anything or anyone... gahh. Natsu just doesn't seem to mature, he's same person from the beginning to the most recent chapter. In general- there is absolutely NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! I liked this in the beginning, but now it just feels like its becomming repetitive- new archs are being added but in general the characters don't improve. I like stories where I can get know the characters better- but in Fairy Tail- all of them simply just don't seem human. They're plastic and have no finite limits

Not gonna lie, I love Fairy Tail - despite the unnecessary fanservice or the drawn out plot. However, Fairy Tail is more on the light-reads sides than the on-the-edge-of-your-seat side. It doesn't draw me in plot-wise. The characters are hilarious, but there's no development.
Currently, I'm waiting for it to just all come out instead of reading it and waiting for the next chapter. Yep, I'm pretty burnt out on Fairy Tail. Don't get me wrong, though, the ships are fantastic.

Fairy Tail is my favorite because it's the first manga I have read, but it really is a very typical fighting shounen. I like that the fights don't last too long, and the humor is great -- one of the reasons I got so hooked. I also like the mostly lack of training arcs. The heros/heroines get stronger by random and trolling means.
There's enough fanservice for it to be ecchi, which I personally don't like, but I absolutely love the art style. Mashima is an excellent artist.
So if you like mainstream shounen with random power-ups, friendship speeches, a hot-headed hero, and the like, then I suggest Fairy Tail. If you're looking for something unique, then this probably isn't the best.
edit: not even my favorite anymore. Nothing has been solved (dragons, Zeref, etc), and it's 90% boobs and butts. No good.
