Great Beginning. Too much Angst.

To be honest I really liked the beginning of Naruto. My favorite arc is with zabuza because of the great character development, well thought out story, and the emotional ending. Sadly none of those qaulities are left. In fact those qaulities were lost long ago. Now all Naruto has are a bunch of whiny wannabe little snot nosed kids that seem to have forgotten their initial goals a long time ago.

it's good, but by no means a 10

To be totally honest, Naruto is good. It's not the best thing out there, but it's good. Like a lot of the other people that said so, it's like DBZ... kinda... Sure it's kiddy, but that's who the authors were probably targetting it for, but that don't mean people older can't enjoy it... but i can honestly say, those who think this is the best thing since sliced bread, you must not have read much manga, because there are a lot of manga out there that are better. Don't consider length as a means to judge how good a comic is. A lot of lengthy comics could mean either drawn out battles, extra filler that doesn't progress the story, etc etc...

Over the top

Over-hyped. The story does improve as it goes along (although it remains weak and ridden with plot holes) but it's essentially a DBZ wannabe. If all it takes for you to enjoy a work are ninjas and crazy moves, Naruto might be for you.

A Victim of Fan Backlash
by blackfire_virgo

This series has become very, very popular. That means it has attracted some radical fans, and so some of the more moderate ones love to find things they hate about it now. Fans ruin everything...

Plot: The plot's a pretty typical coming-of-age sort of thing.

Length: LONG. There were some things that could have been greatly shortened. Like almost every arc, actually.

Characters: Kishimoto did a good job with this, actually. He populated his world with a lot of interesting characters. Somehow, he managed to make even minor characters memorable. Each person got their own unique traits/powers that made them stand out from the others. I think most people who have read this will say that the main protagonist (the title character) is not their favorite character. Just look at how many times characters like Hinata and Itachi, who really don't appear that much, have placed on the top ten of character polls! Kishimoto gets +10 for characters.

Art: The art's all right. It's not amazing. However, it has noticeably improved as the series has gone on. There are some places where the art is better than normal, and the heightened quality adds to the story.

Possibly Offensive: Things can get quite violent. When people attack you head on in this story, they seem to go right through you---literally. Like through your hand (Naruto v. Kabuto), or your shoulder (Naruto v. Sasuke). Or your chest (Tsunade v. Orochimaru). Actually, the character Orochimaru himself should fall under the 'possibly offensive' category. He's a good villain, don't get me wrong, but sometimes he made even me shudder. There's really not that much fanservice. I think we females get more fanservice thrown our way than the males. Karin wasn't the only one fangirling in some of those shots where Sasuke was half naked.

Other Stuff: This series really isn't too deep, but it's been entertaining me this long, so I'll give credit where credit is due. Sometimes Kishimoto throws out some real wallbangers, but then other moments are very touching and poignant (the best example is the fight between Naruto and Gaara). It's when those moments come that I remember why I keep reading this series.

This is an amazing manga, and once you get in, you can't get out. What got me into it was the anime, the first three seasons of which were really awesome. When I got into the manga, which was when Shippuden was a couple dozen episodes in, I realized that Naruto hadn't changed AT ALL. He uses the same jutsus over and over again, with various different versions of the same jutsu being used. His attitude somehow always seems to get him in trouble, but it always saves him from danger and people secretly admire him for some unseeable reason. Sasuke is also very annoying. He wasn't even supposed to exist in the manga, but now he takes it over. I get that this is going in a direction that the mangaka has planned out, but I have a feeling that after more than a decade, he's done with this as well. Still, I recommend this for everyone. For the most part, all the other characters aren't so bad.

Great action manga, but...

The relationships leave something to be desired.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Most of the pairings at the end made no sense if you consider the rest of the manga. The only one that truly made sense was Shikamaru & Temari. Hell, Chouji ending up with a girl from the cloud village made more sense than some of the bigger pairings. Sai and Ino? What?

While I have my personal ships, I'm looking at this from a story stand point.

Hinata and Naruto - while I guess somewhat more plausible, it never felt more than a one sided crush to me. They barely ever interacted and it felt nothing more than that. Also I'm aware of the movie that shows them get together, but that was after the fact and frankly only find to fill in character development that wasn't in the manga.

Frankly after all he went through with her, Naruto should have ended up with Sakura.

Sakura and Sasuke - This pairing made no god damn sense to me. Sasuke shows he doesn't really her and tries to kill her on multiple occasions while Naruto is there to save her ass. He even symbolically stabs her in the heart so she doesn't interfere with their fight to the death. She has to have some form of Stockholm syndrome for it to make sense because there's no way she would be with him otherwise. Even after they are married, he neglects her and their kid Sarada.

Frankly Sasuke should have died.

All in all, this manga was ruined for me by terrible pairings.

The ending is fanservice
by SephiriaChronos

The ending doesn't make sense. It killed off all the development made for the past 698 chapters and ended with some of the most ridiculous pairings.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Naruto professed his love for sakura throughout the series but yet they didn't end up together? Stop kidding me!
Then what was the 698 chapters there for? If he's not going to follow up on it he shouldn't have spent so much time focusing on that.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Seriously did Sakura not grow up after all the hooha with Sasuke and Naruto? It's unbelievable that they can get married after that.
Her character development flew right out of the window, faster than light.

Not to mention some of the character design is obviously flawed if you consider the facts of the series.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
How can the children of Naruto have whiskers, unless you're telling me it's a male preg and the father is really Sasuke.

There's also the behaviour of the main characters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
towards their kids. Sasuke and Naruto knows about the loneliness of childhood without parents yet they neglect their children for some reason. And no, being Hokage doesn't justify anything.

There are so many other things I can say to back up my reason of how many things are wrong but forget it, I'm not in the mood. I can only say the ending is pure fanservice and the pairings are there just for the sake of the
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
side series that Kishimoto is going to make.
Because of the ending I'm going to give it a rating of 6. This is so ridiculous that it's not even funny.

All in all, sorry, I'm not going to read anything else made by this mangaka.

Season 1 is AWESOME, Season 2 sucks!

Naruto was really great in season 1; Everything was really perfect in my eyes, so exciting and Naruto and the other's strong friendship is really inspiring. I really like how we meet new characters, but there's almost story we get to know about them and why they're like that today. Some of the stories really touched me, especially Gaara, Neji, Tsunade and Haku's story.
The season 2 SUCKS (sorry): Naruto begins to lose the great story. The beginning of season 2 is great, but the manga gets really shallow after Gaara's story :/ The whole Akatsuki story is so messed up, and I feel that in every chapter there's just always new, boring explanations about why this and this happened and new techniques that Kishimoto-san randomly just invent up sad
There's so many characters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
who dies, and I feel 3/4 of the characters who died was so unecessary deaths thanks to a stupid war.
and the Sasuke saga
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
is really poor. His meaning of taking the evil path becomes meaningless since Itachi was not evil and actually loved Sasuke. Sasuke's main goal is now lost and suddenly he wants to take revenge on the whole Konoha!? It's not even a good reason, just because it was an old man's doing for making Itachi like this. I think it's really poor, sorry.

I would still recommend it, but it's not the best shounen manga since the shippuuden kind of made the serie more boring :/

Like it or Hate it

This manga seems to be really polarizing, you either really enjoy it or you think it's beyond stupid. I personally am one who enjoys it, but I'll admit, there are some chapters that make you think "why am I reading this again?"

Many people that complain that it should have ended awhile ago but for the scope and the amount of just everything that this manga has in it, making it end sooner would have just left too many untied ends. Currently, you can feel the story coming to a close but in a way that also answers the questions we've all been wondering.

Overall, I give Naruto a 9 for a few reasons.

One: action scenes. Too many brilliant manga have been ruined by poorly executed fight scenes that have so many things going on that no one can figure out what just happened, Naruto typically maintains a good balance between uncluttered drawing and dialogue.

Two: Characters. We've all read manga in which every other figure looks exactly like someone who appeared two pages ago, minus maybe a different hair color. In this manga, differentiating between two characters is easy: every person has a distinct look and all the main characters can be recognized with no second guessing. One other thing that I think is rather rare is the fact that parents/siblings/family members actually look related to each other.

Three: it's in depth. I'm not sure if this is just me but I find it cool when I can see a picture of a character and instantly know a huge chunk of info regarding who the person is, who their family is, what they can do, and how they tie into the story. The further and further you read into the story the more you realize just how massive Kishimoto's ninja world is.

It was at least much much (and very very much) better than pokemon.... something that I regret watching till date....

Anyways due to repetition and all that stuff, I'd drop some rating of Naruto... other wise, it stays at 7/10 for me. Which by my standards is too good ^_^
