Hey guys,
trying to start a topic which hasn't alreadz been started twice, i ask your opinion on following subject.
Do you prefer color or black and white manga/comics ? I myself would probably pick black and white. I think that there are really good color comics out there ( Bilal for example who paints all his comics aqrilic ) but on the whole i prefer black and white. Exspecially in the 80s the coloring of a lot of comics was terrible. For example, watchmen, V for Vendetta and Sandman are suppose to have great stories, but i haven't read them yet because the pictures are so garisch.
anyway, lets see what you guys think

black and white. I'd rather they focused on improving their art without colour than to impair their art by adding colour as a result or because the artist might be using some of their time colouring it in. If it was in colour, it'd remind me too much of comics which I ain't too keen on, but i certainly would get b/w as well as colour scans if there are available.

not sure....but when i read american comics like Marvel comics for one, my eyes get strained really easily compared to that when i read manga. I dunno, maybe its the colours, or maybe coz the drawings are more complicated confused

I remember reading Witchblade which is in colour. It's a very nice change to black and white. It depends on the art really, I'm happy reading my favourite mangas in black and white, but I can remember reading some of the more more 'messy' art styles having the opening pages in colour then going b&w, and wishing it would stay in colour. If you know what i mean.

I think the greatest advantage of black and white is that you can often see the original lines the artist drew. ( is drew the past form of draw? ) Often when things are color, they are divided into neat compartments and then filled with a color. ( example: anime, i think most colored comics are made this way ) However, it is possible to do really cool stuff with color, but i guess its just way to time consuming to make a whole comic that way. For example the color pages from bleach were really kick ass.
Black and white anime would proabably make your eyes bleed after 10 minutes, only high contrast smile

Yes drew is correct. hehe I still would like to see one it would be unique. Also I like some colour mangas like Hero and Satan from beyond the sky they are well drawn. I also like the occasional coloured page or spread in the jump mangas. Also I didn't mind the coloured chapter at the beginning of every volume in Living Game that was cool cause I had never seen them colour like that in a manga before it didn't affect the lines of the artist at all smile Although it wasn't that flashy it was cool imo cool

I like manga in both because when it's in color, you can tell what color hair they have instead of trying to guess off the cover biggrin Cuz seriously, the covers are sometimes off on the colors. I like black and white a lot too because it sets the mood of the story and I like the black and white tones eyes (Did that make any sense at all?)

Colored stuff is better only when it is highly detailed and uses sexy effects. I mean GitS 2 looks fantastic, but if you've ever seen, for example, Marvel's attempt to color Akira, you'd be disgusted.

But we, manga fans, don't really get to choose: 99% of manga is B&W. Of course, if all of it looked like Snikt! it would be prettier. But that's just not how things are. The fact that Western comics are made in color doesn't make them superior to manga.

That's why I think color (or abscence of it) should not be a preference.

EDIT: BJ's phrase about "the original lines the artist drew" made me remember Hunter x Hunter. The later volumes especially. God damn it.
